DON'T BUY HAMPTON BAY FANS!

I purchased a ceiling fan and installed per the manufacturers directions. The fan stopped turning after two months of operation. When I called Hampton's customer service they told me sounded like a capacitor problem. They told me they would mail me the part with instructions on how to repair. The part came with no instructions and when I called back the technical rep displayed the rudest behavior that I have ever encountered. I finally informed him to just mail the instructions and I would figure it out. When I opened the fan to repair the capacitor I witnessed a bubble of grey matter which had oozed out of the capacitor. After a week I'm still waiting for the instructions to arrive in the mail. DON'T BUY HAMPTON BAY FANS!

I suggest you fully understand the issues these people are discussing before you chime in with such an uninformed response. These fans are crap. I have 2 of them. Sure, the installation may be over some of their heads, but the problem is the faulty capacitors in the units. My particular fan motor failed - a bad capacitor like most of them. Upon opening the unit, the capacitor (a heat-generating component) was stuck to the case with a piece of foam tape. This results in NO HEAT TRANSFER TO THE CASE, and consequently, the capacitor burns out quickly. It should have been bonded with thermal-conducting epoxy. I too, will not buy anything of value from Home Depot again.
The instructions say that the blades attach to the arms by sliding into the notch cut in the blade. The blades in my package have four round holes cut but no notch.
I am in the British Virgin Islands but returning to my home in Canada in 10 days.
Would it be possible to ship me either arms that fit blades with holes or new blades with the proper notch cut in them.
Thank you for your attention to this request.

How can I test the fixture???
First Identify your Hampton Bay ceiling fan by going to the Hampton Bay manufacturer/importer: www.kingoffans.com (King of Fans), then call their customer Service Dept., (toll free number in their website).
you will need to send them clear pictures by e-mail of your fan and the capacitor (showing the side with the electrical properties or markings and clearly showing how many wires the capacitor has), to confirm the fan style and to identify the correct capacitor used. Price for my replacement capacitor was $12.00 including delivery.
Another source for many ceiling fan Capacitors is eBay. Go to www.ebay.com and type "ceiling fan capacitor" in the Search Box and you will see zillions of pictures that you can compare yours to.
The other one's chain broke off inside the unit.....I won't buy this brand again.
I thought it was haunted. It's a very creepy feeling being alone and all of a sudden the fan and lights turn on at 3:00 AM!! In the four weeks we've had it, this has happened seven times!
Husband is at H.D. Right now to see what can be done.
These are the 791-6407 Gazebo 11 outdoor fans, really nice looking and they were only $89.00 each.
Where else could you get an outdoor fan for that price? In Houston humidity, I will take what I can get for some air in a garage. We also have some older Hampton bay fans that we have had for a good many years and they are still working, never a problem.
