I couldn't take the five hours, ended up getting so sick of their bs I had to go to the hospital. I am a student online and needed to open a file, which it stated it takes Java to open it. tried downloading Java still go an error report. The tech at gura downloaded the file, showed me on my computer where I had attempted to open the file six times. He circled it in red then told me it was fixed. No way, my error I should have had him open the file while he was on the computer. I called back again than after three more hours I told him I couldn't take this frustration and that I had to go to the hospital. Clicked everything off while waitting for the ambulance to arrive they called me back, there was no way I was going to answer the phone. They did try calling me three times today and I just can't face that stress. When and if I get my brain back I will see what procedure I have if any to bring charges up on this company and to get my money back. I have been under a lot of pressure lately,

I, too, was duped into believing that this company was for real.  I thought I was contacting "Spybot" technical support.  I was scammed for money and my computer is way worse that before their "help".  My credit card company is helping me dispute the charge!  I hope more people realize what this is before they are taken!!

Yesterday I thought I was calling Norton Security to ask them a question on keylogging and phishing.  Instead I got someone (a woman) who sounded foreign like an Indian person....as it turned out it was a rep from guruaid, who I though was affiliated with Norton.  Long story short, the person took over my computer and after an hour or so talked me into purchasing a one year plan for computer maintenance for a price of $169.99.  The person said I had all these viruses and malware etc on my computer and they would remove them.  After they finished, a computer cleaning software icon appeared on my desktop called AVG.PCTUNEUP.  When you download the software it gives you a free two day trial.  After two days, you are required to pay for a license for a one year use of it for $29.95.  Today I called the Guruaid number to try to get a refund.  The women kept saying she had to talk to her supervisor.  Then when she came back reduced the price from 199.99 to $120.00 then after I insisted on the refund, again went to her supervisor came back with a price of $100.00.  At that point,I hung up and called Wellsfargo Visa to dispute the charge. Somehow, this company has a way of intercepting calls regarding computer questions in order to dupe people into buying their service.

samething happen to me, i call a tel number thinking im calling the norton support line, but the guy was from guruaid and he's in india, he acted like he was a norton representative, after spending an hour with him and him trying to sell me craps and ask so many personnal questions that i did not feel confortable to answer, i realise he's not from norton. I made a complain  and let norton know that guruaid people are passing themselves as norton representatives. checking online you will so many complains about guruaid people passing as Microsoft, or macafee or norton representative etc..... i dont undestand why no one is doing anything about this company. the fbi or bbb should investigate them, they access ur computer and who know is they are stealing your information or not

Exactly the same happened to me as halabit and quite clearly Norton are in bed with these bar stewards Do not touch with a barge pole and use the repair facility already in place with your software

Saturday I was having an issue with my new laptop, so I tried to call Dell for tech support. I could search something but not open the links. I called the first number I could see in the results. "Justin" answered, had me to go logmein. I asked him twice if he was with Dell and he said yes. He took control of my computer and spent over 30 minutes telling me about how many errors there were on my computer and he could save me money. I asked him if he was trying to sell me something and he explaining how he could save me money. He said that most people take their computers to a computer store for a clean up 3 times a year (?) and spend $100 each time. He could clean up my computer for $100 now, or I could SAVE money and pay $179 for 3 cleanups a year! I asked him again if he was with Dell and he said yes. I asked if the charge could go on my Dell account and he said no, it was separate. He showed me a contract to fill out and told me to start filling it out while he brought his financial supervisor on the line. While I was waiting, my computer miraculously cooperated, I googled Guruaid, and saw this site. So, when the supervisor came on the line, I asked again (4th time) if he was with Dell. He said no. So, I concluded the phone call. $179 saved, and 45 minutes of my life wasted.

I had exactly  the same problem, I was unable to access my emails. I spoke to the same operator, who also
took control of my computer. Within a short space of time he recovered my  emails, then also said I had other problems of which could be sorted with their highly trained technition No mention of any cost. But I became uncomfortable with the pressure to have the work carried out, then the cost came in, I refused the yearly and 3 yearly service, but because the control of my computer was still not in my hands I paid for the work just carried out. Be it I feel conned, at present all is well, DARE I say ! and I have a receipt? and contact details? I will give them the benifit of the doubt, I hope they do not prove me wrong,

Norton, Kaspersky and all the other virus companies aren't "in bed" with GuruAid...YOU have to be more careful when searching for online help. A friend needed help with Kaspersky so she googled "Kaspersky Support" and the first couple links all lead to GuruAid...quite tricky of them. This is on YOU to make sure you're dealing with the legit company and not some outside [***] support.

    wow!
Exact same thing happened to me tonight. Im pissed. I refused to pay...and then when I got off the phone they still had access to my computer!! the person closed all my windows, one of which I had an unsaved document.... The most frustrating experience of my life. I didnt buy into the scam but just wasted an hour of my life, and now the real Dell isnt even open for me to give them an earful. Dell is a big enough company to pay for their ad at the top of the list so their customers stay happy!

    scam
I had the same problem.  I called McAfee Virus protection and was in conversation when I paid for $169.99 to clean up my computer.  While they were working on my computer, it shut down.  They told me something was wrong with the power.  I had a dell technician came out and replaced the motherboard and other pieces in the CPU.  After I called Guruaid again, the computer shut down again.  I called them and they are taking forever to put me on to a technician.  I don't have time to deal with these scammers.  I just want my money back or I will be disputing my credit card charge.  I will also file a complaint with the BBB.
I hope this company will cease to operate to defraud people.

    Another scam
I called GuruAid by mistake thinking that I was calling Symenatec/Norton. I only realized something was wrongafter giving permission to access my computer and the Tech was beating around the bush. I turned off the access after about 15 minutes and hung up the phone.
Since this event, my computer is worse and I believe that it and my information may have been compromised by these people. Please stay away from them and make sure you check the company you will be dealing is legit.

    Hi People

I would also like to comment on this issue, I had a problem with WIN7 Genuine notification and did a google search and like an idiot phoned the 1st number that came up in the search, as it says something like get Microsoft Certified Technician Support,
When I phoned I asked "is that Microsoft"? and the asian man on the other end of the phone, said yes it was.

He then took control of my pc and asked me to try and open some programs, which all of a sudden wouldnt open.. Surprise suprice..... He then said your pc is full of virus's and thats why you cant open the files and that I needed to pay £100 to have them removed... I said I wasnt going to pay and there were no virus's on the pc as it was a brand new HardDrive that had only been installed three days earlier....
I told him all I wanted was some advise about  my copy of win7...

He then got very aggressive and said I need to pay as I had used his time.... I told him to go an ***k himself and put the phone down...........

How is this company getting away with this scam

Same story as everyone else.  They said they represented Microsoft & would gladly help me remove another scam done on my computer the week before.  Guruaid is also a scam, everybody, and they scammed me for a grand total of $400.  As far as I know, nothing can be done about this company.  I beg you to have nothing to do with GURUAID.  Went to Office Depot & for a price got straightened.  But it was a $400 mistake!

Wow!! I just went thru the same crap for 2hours! I renewed my Kaspersky anti virus then next day showed expired. So I Googled Kaspersky to get a phone number to see what was going on and what do ya know I get in touch with Guruaid tech who does all the same things list above. This guy from India then tells me that i have an infected file and the anti virus can't be installed till I buy their software and fix the problem. At that point (after 2 hours) I freaked out on this guy! Our connection was mysteriously lost? I then called Geek Squad and within 30 min (not on the phone) they had the problem with my subscription renewal solved and my pc was protected. I feel like I really dodged a Bullet after reading previous post on this page.

This is a total scam and I can only hope that people read this before going with the 1st number they see and calling like I did!!! I will be emailing, posting on Facebook and warning everyone I can about these scam artist!!!!!
