Another consumer scammed by GURUAID.  I thought I was talking to Microsoft.  I told them what my problem was and after 1 1/2 hours the Indian lady gave me the impression there would be a charge for this service of $169.99.  I felt that I was stuck as I know nothing about computers so I gave them my credit card# and then after that she said I needed to call back and talk to another technician to finish up which was about another hour.  I was totally exhausted and felt like an idiot getting pulled into this scam.  She told me a would have 24/7 computer service for a year and that it would have cost that much if I took it somewhere else to get looked at.  I know I won't be getting my money back but I had to change my credit card number as I thought they may charge me $169.99 every month for all I know.  They are crooks and need to be punished.

Unfortunately this is little hard due to them being over see and their local police refusing to take them down. All you can do is warn people to stay away.

Nobody should trust an unproven stranger they have just met on the internet, to take over their computer and files. Even if Guru aid is above board, there are several reasons why it isn't wise to use their services
a). computer problems can be due to hardware as well as software causes and a good local technician can deal with both, whereas Guruaid can't help with hardware faults
    b) Most local technicians advertise a "no fix - no fee" service  . Paying Guru aid up front means that if they don't fix it is difficult to get a refund
    c) It is highly dangerous to allow a remote stranger, in India, to take over control your computer. They could introduce harmful programmes designed to draw you further into their clutches - or perhaps worse - could find their way into secure areas !!!!
    d) I was drawn in and realise how difficult it is to talk to a foreign technician for several hours while he or she plays with your system
    e) Can you trust them not to take further payments from your card?? Also,If you pay £100 or £300, up front for a contract, how certain is it that they will remain in business to honour the contract

This company made me very nervous as well. I gave the guy I was talking to remote access and when he started asking for my full name and phone number I refused. As I was trying to end the remote access, he would move my mouse every once in a while, trying to convince me to stay on. Luckily, I ended it and said simply that my stomach was upset. (Frankly, it was because I had a really bad feeling in my gut.) The guy got mad and started going off on how other people needed help with their stuff and I should have told them I was going to stop at the beginning (what?) so I apologized and said, "I'm sorry but thank you for trying to help." After he repeated himself multiple times and I did the same, he eventually asked me if I needed any more help. When I said no he hung up. I am quite nervous now but hopefully he didn't get any information. From the fact that he was trying to keep me from stopping the session, I am guessing he tried to get information but was unable to in the short amount of time I had given him access. (About maybe five minutes, not too long luckily.) I just hope nothing bad happened. I got very lucky that I didn't pay them. I am guessing they would have tried to ask later on in the call. Good thing I stopped it.

Stay away from this company. Something seems fishy with them.

Oh. Oh. I did not read enough previous messages, then I noticed yours. You were wise but did experience unnecessary tension. Bad enough to have gone through the messing around. As for me as a very old retiree, I did not have enough confidence to tell them to take a hike.
The only thing for me is to take my PC to the local store that sold me that and a security system (Norton).  Just not professional and ..... well what can I or anyone do about it?

I spent money with them three years ago.  For the last year the keep calling saying they are getting a message from my computer that I am being hacked.  Very scripted.... talked wit them many times to catch on to their game.  Same approach- read off of screen.  Problem is that I don't even own the computer anymore.  FLAT OUT LIES_ no doubt.  Sorry for your $999.90 Randy.  They may have helped you some as part of the ploy, but you need to go into emergency correction mode.  Their latest ploy is that it is my email account that is being accessed from China and Australia.  They don't make tech sense about the IP address and other issues, but continue to bluff. They used to call as Microsoft Support Services also.  Now more often as GuruAid.  They say they are a part of BBB.  They use false numbers from multiple states as the caller ID, but they are all false locations.  I've talked to multiple ones saying they are the same name.  i've asked for the same person, by name, that I talked to the day before.  The put him on, but it's not the same voice and he can't remember what we talked about.  They have accents that apper to be from somewhere like India or Pakistan.  I had them telling me that the virus on my computer would make my battery overheat and burn down the house and kill my family.  I had them say they were coming to my house and would drink all of my whiskey (LOL- really-  I guess they were watching some  kind of movie that indicated that was a real scare threat to Americans or something!).  I offered to give them my security code and throw them a party if they came.  I asked if they could make the computer overheat with a virus, would they do it to someone that I didn't like- that I would pay them for that.  I told them i would waste their time on every call so they couldn't call others and I would cost them money.  I've done it as I had time- just to play with them.  I've cost them about ten hours (I talk slow, don't understand, hold on please, ...), when I choose to.  Hope this helps-  NO DOUBT- THIS IS AN OFFSHORE SCAM!!!!!!!!!!  RUN!!!  COME ON FTC, FBI, USA gov't-  I've reported them to you- do something!

It's a complete misconception about Guruaid as to why people who haven't used the services properly blaim that guruaid is a scam company, as a matter of fact some don't even know technical know how of the computer but still want to blaim guruaid as a scam. There are scammers calling people in the name of guruaid unnecessarily and creating a negative image, following that people have completely change their concept for guruaid. People would rather like to get scammed by lending their things to some people who they are ready as much amount they demand rather then getting service from guruaid at a much cheap price and getting assistance sitting at home. I feel so sad about the people who really have misconception for Guruaid and they walking on false who they don't even know.
Guruaid is a tech support company, IT IS NOT AFFILIATED TO ANY BRANDS LIKE DELL, HP, etc. They provide assistance regarding the concern.

I had purchased Norton Security with my new PC tower locally.  It seemed so simple to enter the long series of numbers on the back of the card.  I  thought I could get help and be walked through by persons at toll free number. The people of GuruAid wanted me to pay just under 180 dollars as advertised by Norton. They set it up and the sent my e-mail entry with space for password underneath for ACER. The e-mail had one letter left off. (to be fair it could have been my mistake in giving it to them). They repeated failed to re-enter. They absolutely had my PC put back to reset which took about three hours. Then they had me keep hitting areas on my computer. They used their own mouse to keep changing stuff.  I became so very upset, but not angry. They even wanted me bring in another computer or laptop. I could not. I said I would log off and take my PC back to the store. My voice trembled and near to tears.  They relented and put of ACER.  My problem is just what should I do to ensure my PC is not compromised by them.....?The local store is up to their eyes in work, but I have not contacted them yet.   Credit card company assures me no unusual debits for last seven days.

I was having problems with my pc, said CALL BITDEFENDER on my Android, got a very fast-talking Indian guy who put so much pressure on me to buy for one time, one year, two years, three years. He went remotely onto my pc (I wasn't suspicious enough) and showed me that my first search engine was Astromenda, showing me that it was the first name in Wikipedia under known browser hijackers. I ended up finally hanging up and turning off my pc for a while. The search engines didn't have Astromenda. The pressure to buy was more demeaning than the old health clubs that would get a bunch of people to join and then go out of business within the year (Boston area). I was foolish enough to trust them because my Android brought up their number, but will beware next time...

SCAM in my opinion. I fell for it and they ruined a brand new computer that I had bought for my daughter, this computer was a very nice. My intent was for my daughter to be able to use this computer all 4 years through high school. I promise you not only did they take my money and ruin the computer, I truly believe they would have taken any credit card numbers they could have thank god it was a new computer and it did not have any of my credit card information on it yet. Please, stay away from them, if you don't want to be extremely taken advantage of!
