I received a voice mail message from Officer Sean White at 571-207-8536. His English was excellent but had a very slight unidentifiable accent. The message said something like, "Do not ignore this message. If you do, you or your attorney will have consequences." I called the number and a man who sounded exactly like the caller identified himself as Officer Ray Morgan with Badge # 281562. He asked my name and I told him that first I needed information from him so I could verify it. He said he was with the Dept of Legal Affairs, Crime & Investigation Dept, IRS Division, 1121 Constitution Ave, Richmond, VA. He said I could call "any police dept" and they would be able to verify his badge #. I told him I'd research everything and call back if indicated. I searched the business/department name on White Pages. Nothing. And nothing with that exact dept with a general search. The White Pages did located the cell phone number in Leesburg, VA and show it flagged as a telemarketer. No company name. The record shows four complaints for this number. Based on this and all the above comments, I will NOT be calling them back!

Just received message from Dept of Legal Affairs re: all of the above.  Unfortunately I tried to call back on my cell phone. THEIR CALL WAS TO MY HOME PHONE.   I see this has been going on for at least 3 years.  If our gov is so good at keeping track of us, why can't they get rid of these guys.

This is a scam pure and simple.  Report these calls to your local U.S. congressperson.  Tell him or her that these clowns are representing themselves as Federal employees.  Trust me, they *loooove* this sort of thing.  (Gives their younger staff members something to rip-to-shreds.)

I got a call from a So called David Miller with a heavy accent today. He's called in the past, but I never responded because I knew it was bullsh&t. He said he was from the Dept. Of legal affairs & they were issuing a warrant out for my arrest for tax evasion. I knew it was crap because we've gotten a refund the past 3 yrs & the IRS would have withheld an money if you owe them a dime. My husband & I have never lived or worked in NY. I called the police & they said it was a scam. F.U. David Miller

Yes, these guys are a malicious and evil scam, but they are making money or they would stop doing it.  The thing is, they know that every 20th call they place will be to someone who actually does owe taxes from the last 3 to 6 years.  Like my ex-husband who is self employed and is always owing back payments to the IRS.  And it will hit home too close with them and they may fall for it and make the payment!  OR, they'll reach an illegal immigrant (I know, I'm a teacher, and several of my student's parents would be REALLY nervous to get this kind of call.  They'd probably pay when threatened with "police are coming to your door.")  We who have nothing to fear know it's a scam, but people who want to stay under the radar may fall for it.  SAD!!

So I get a call from a fellow who tells me I have a horrible virus on my computer, his Windows organization discovered this with their online probe. But he could help!

"Oh thank God you called me!" I said.
I decided I would play with the scam.

He instructed me to go into some network settings in my control panel, to change configurations. I am a software engineer, so I knew what he was trying to do, but I played really dumb so he would think he had me.

"What means control panel?" I said.
    "What is the close button?"

Then I confused him by revealing a tid bit of real knowledge.
"Should I tell you the IP address of my computer?"
"Should I open up my firewall to anyone?"

Eventually he hung up being frustrated by my stupid questions while not setting what he wanted.

It was fun for me but beware!

A Sean Andrews from Dept. Of Legal Affairs, left message on my landline saying to contact him immediately.  The reason:  Imposement Actions have been started in my name (where do they get their lines from?).  My caller ID showed the call from a Samantha Wynn 347-539-4259 listed in New York, USA.  I was curious and wanted to mess with them for trying to scam me, so I called them from my cell phone (private so my number wasn't displayed) and an Officer Smith (clearly of Indian heritage) of the United States Treasury answered.  I said I needed to speak to Sean Andrews and he said he could help me.  I told him I knew he was a fraud and that I was reporting him.  Of course, he hung up.  I continued to call and bother them as they had me and that was sweet revenge.  After an hour of this, they wouldn't answer the phone anymore.
Just wanted to let you all know.  Now, I will call the FTC at 877-382-4357.

I got a voice mail today from someone called Jeff Palmes (or something like that, as it is very difficult to understand what they say). The voice mail was regarding an Enforcement Action and from the Department of Legal Affairs, and so on...I listened to the message and look for the key words and the phone number (34770707629) on Internet and there are a LOT of reports on these scammers. I'm not planning on calling them back, and I do hope these f**ers get caught and put in jail.

Had a message on my home phone that said they needed to talk to me about a legal case. I called the # and some dude who sounded like he was from India. I asked who he was and he said he was from the U.S. Dept. of Legal Affairs. I asked him his name and he said Russ something. He asked me my name and I told him first I wanted to know what this was about and he hung up.
