I read a few blogs about a merchant service(squareup.com)on an excusve website.  I decided to use the service and accepted over eight hundred dollars in payments through them.  The problem is they will not send the funds due to my designated business account and I have now idea how to collect my money from them.  They continue not to answer my numerous complaints and requests for assistance.  They claim to answer every request personally which is deceptive.  On my first complaint, they personally sent me a list of measures for a certain proceedure which was fruitless and had nothing to do with my complaint.  If it was not for You Tube, I would have still been stuck on the application complaint.

FROM A PERSON WHO IS TRYING TO GET A REFUND FROM SQUARE UP. I AM NOT A MEMBER OF SQUARE UP ONLY SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN WAITING TOO LONG FOR A REFUND. BUYERS BE AWARE.

A local company used my credit card for a purchase and then the wife and I changed our minds and cancelled that purchase.

Square Up has had our refund pending for almost a week now. NOT happy with that. We need that money to make a purchase with another company. The delay is not thru MY credit card company because my receipt from Square Up states refund to me is still pending and MY card company is posting refunds and purchases immediately. What is Square UP doing with my money while I wait for a refund. I will never do business with a company that uses Square Up to swipe my credit card especially if I might return the item.

I have never heard so many ignorant people in my life. If you all would simply read the terms, you will discover that they hold a percentage of your money for a maximum of 30 days for fraud protection purposes. However if you use the swipe method, via the provided FREE card reader, you have access to your money within 24 hours. Hearing comments like "I will keep making noise so that no one can use this company ever again" really bugs me, as Square has built a great product. The lack of customer service is a bit irritating, but if you follow the rules and guidelines posted on the square site you should not need customer service. Now, tons of small businesses are being scared away by these ignorant posts, when they could be using a superb product in the Square Register. Everyone complaining here - you're the reason we can't have nice things.

I agree with you. When signing up, I didn't realize the hold part. But later in the day I read everything and as soon as I seen that I was discouraged because my payments would be non-swiped and over $1000. BUT they have a procedure to get approved for more. I followed the instructions as 24 hours later was approved for increase to $10,000. Processed my payment last night and funds in my account this morning. I don't like the fact there is no phone number but I agree with you that it is important to read and understand EVERYTHING. But that goes for any and everything you do in life. There may be people with legitimate issues not related to not reading something so I feel bad for those people. But the people complaining about the $1000 hold should get a grip. I was denied by a number of merchant services so I'm glad there is a company that will take my business. And I don't have to worry about the 30 day hold because I followed instructions.

Sorry but this company is a scam pure and simple. You are the ignorant one.  There are many more problems than just holding funds for 30 days. They have held 50K of our money for almost 90 days and there is no way to contact them. Hmmm ~ Great Comany ~ NOT!

In that case i challenge you to SWIPE several hundred dollars in Visa gift/debit cards..should someone elect to pay you by that means..

I have been in business for 10 years...and starting in 2012 rather that accept cash ..I ask my clients to pay with Via or MasterCard gift/debit cards...which are in essence the same of cash..
We do a lot of tax counseling for people going thru divorce proceedings and have had their accounts frozen by court order pending finalizing their settlements..thereby precluding them from uing their personal CC's or checking accounts..

After two weeks of sending tax returns, invoices, CC receipts, corp docs, EIN/IRS info..
ZEEEERO response from SQ other than to ask me for the same exact info that I have sent them more than 5 times...

BTW...nothing in their info saying anything other than ...sign up..swipe the cards and receive your money..and if you have any problems ..Sq will resolve them in 24 hours..

A huge number of people are getting "jerked" around by this company..

An only an idiot would call some who complains about getting ZERO customer service and having their monies HELD for weeks..."ignorant.."

Square is holding over 35 thousand dollars on our Company account, they say for 90 days. Who knows if we will EVER get it.

There have been 70 complaints file with the San Francisco BBB alone in the past 12 months.

YES, use this company if you can AFFORD to HAVE YOUR FUNDS HELD INDEFINITELY AT THEIR WHIM.

They just assume this is O.K. No problem, we don’t need the 35k that we worked so hard for to pay our bills. PLEASE! I have heard from MANY customers who have experienced the same thing.

If you are reading this, chances are you too have had a problem. Report them to the Following: States Attorney General in California AND your own State (do both), and the BBB.

      They need to be STOPPED!

      David,
Everything made by man can fail. That's why you have service. And with a Big Boy company(like ours), NO ONE should have to wait 30 days because underwriting should be done before activation. 97% of our $10K+ transactions batch with 48 hours. . . and our mobile interface is better than Square, AND you can process online and your computer/laptop as well. I hope people do run from this aggregator unless they do small transactions-business owners deserve better than a marketing scheme that does not deliver. But folks want instant gratification.

I just signed up for Square last week after having an issue with my regular merchant services company. I did read everything very carefully and was upset about the over $1000 limit since most of my transactions will be non-swiped and very much over $1000. However, I also did read that you can send a request to get approved for more. So I sent an email request my non-swiped transactions be increased to $10,000. I got a response back within 24 hours as promised and they approved the increase. However, I was still hesitant to use the service because it all seemed too easy. Then I seen these complaints and was even more nervous. But I knew I read everything carefully and my increase was approved so I figured I would give it a try. I processed the sale for $7100 yesterday at 3:27PM EST. The website stated that for payments processed before 5PM PST the deposit would be sent at 7PM PST and available by Friday morning (today) at my bank (of course depending on how fast your bank posts deposits). I didn't see that the deposit had been made by 10PM EST so I started getting nervous thinking they would have some excuse to hold my funds longer than expected. However, I woke up this morning at 6AM EST and the funds are in my bank account. This is only my first transaction and I read that other people didn't have problems in the beginning but experienced them later. So I won't give a ringing endorsement just yet but I will say that as of now I am happy. As a new small business owner who have been through a number of obstacles, this was a relief especially since my original merchant service wouldn't release the funds because I had the wrong type of contract, etc, etc. It was nice to finally have one thing work. I must admit that I was also bothered by the fact that there was no phone number since I wanted to call just to make sure I wouldn't have a problem with my funds before processing the payment. Luckily, there weren't any problems but still. I will continue to use Square for now until we get things worked out with our merchant services company and promise to post any negative experience as well. But everyone should be sure to read and understand ALL materials on their website before processing a payment and then being surprised by the funds being held.

I've used SquareUp since October 2010 and have charged many $1000's of dollars via my Ipad app.  I've never had an issue with them.  I think they are the best.

BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. This Company is some kind of a SCAM.

They are holding over 50K of our Companies funds and some payments have been held for over two months. Can not speak to a human, only e-mail & no response. We rent vacation homes and do transactions of $5000 ~ 10,000 each. All of my customers say their credit card was charged long ago and some have even paid their bills. Why is my money being held?

I just hope I get my funds before they go out of business!

Just started new company selling cars but sold my own car & took a credit card payment, prior to doing so checked terms & conditions was relieved to see that if I swiped the cc I would have my money in 36 hours regardless to the dollar amount so I swiped that card with confidence and let my customer leave in the car. Now 3 wks have passed after numerous calls &emails I get a response stating that my $12,000 will be held for 180 days & my account has been deactivated because I'm a high risk, I forgot to mention that by now I had sent them copies of my company DBA, invoices, car title, my company advertisements, etc. the list goes on and on. They are heartless, rude, scamming, creatures. My customer who already has my car title refuse to return my car because the transaction is already on his AMEX statement. I'm scared to reverse charges because customer not being exactly cooperative which I understand partially because the whole thing sounds Ludicrous. I'm basically in a bad predicament. If you process small payments you may be ok but I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy by the time I get my money I will be homeless & on public assistance literally.

I am a small business owner as well and I totally understand the frustrations of everyone not receiving their money as quickly as they expect.

However, let me play devil's advocate (or consumer's advocate I should say).  As a consumer as well as a business owner, you can imagine the nightmare this type of card reader could become for consumers as well as squareup.

With the amount of fraud and people trying to get money for nothing, anyone could get a hold of one of these card readers, and start charging any card (or number) they can get a hold of.  I have been victim of debit card fraud and it wasn't from one of these. It was from using my card at a large chain fast food restaurant. One of these card readers in the hands of someone malicious could be disastrous for a consumer without squareup's policies and procedures.

While a little inconvenient for me as a business owner, I would prefer square up protect my customers/clients (and *your* customers/clients AND myself as a consumer) with what some may think are *too* precautionary identifying procedures and I would rather jump through hoops to prove I am legitimate than to have squareup be TOO easy to get a hold of and scam people then have all kinds of people trying to get their money back from someone who is NOT legitimate.

As a business owner, I will just try to plan around their procedures as to not let it affect my business.
