Theft/no customer service
Complaint
John Underhill
Country: United States
I read a few blogs about a merchant service(squareup.com)on an excusve website. I decided to use the service and accepted over eight hundred dollars in payments through them. The problem is they will not send the funds due to my designated business account and I have now idea how to collect my money from them. They continue not to answer my numerous complaints and requests for assistance. They claim to answer every request personally which is deceptive. On my first complaint, they personally sent me a list of measures for a certain proceedure which was fruitless and had nothing to do with my complaint. If it was not for You Tube, I would have still been stuck on the application complaint.

Hello,
Thanks for writing in! Hopefully I can explain our deposit policy a little more clearly.
For every new Square user, there is an initial $1,000 weekly limit applied to manually entered transactions (payments where the card is not swiped). Rather than starting and ending on a particular day of the week, we view the week as a rolling 7 day period. Your deposit amount is calculated each time you manually enter a transaction and is the total of all manually entered transactions in the previous seven days. Any amount you accept over your deposit limit will remain in your Square account for 30 days before Square automatically sends it to your bank account.
If you are swiping cards through the Square card reader, we will deposit the funds from these payments within 36 hours. Swiped payments do not count against your deposit limit.
If you foresee yourself primarily using manually entered transactions, I’d be happy to provide you with a short application that will allow you to increase your deposit limit to an amount that works with your business. If you wish to proceed with this, please let me know and I'll get you started.
At this time, only the iPad has items available in its current form. I'm sure we will expand this functionality to Android tablets in the future, but I do not have a specific roadmap for you. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Have a great day,
Drew E.

so that settles that. we make way more than $1000 a week but we always swipe the cards (we're a coffeeshop - www.wakinglifeespresso.com), and it's always deposited within 36 hours. always.
2) re: tips and pending transactions
i have had some issues with people freaking out because a pending transactions says $5 when it should say $2 for the americano they bought. the amount always goes back to $2 (or more if they tipped) once the payment clears. most people don't know how to interpret a pending transaction on their bank statement (or their bank doesn't indicate it clearly). IT ALWAYS GOES AWAY, SQUARE DOES NOT STEAL YOUR MONEY. if they didn't authorize more, then customers couldn't tip or the tip might cause a negative balance in the customer's account. thousands of bars and gas stations do the same thing.
3) re: square ownership
Jack Dorsey, of twitter fame, founded square (http://www.businessinsider.com/square-card-case-2011-5). it's not a fake company nor a scam. I've been using it for two months at my coffeeshop and not a penny has gone missing, and i've gotten my money every time. if you've had issues with it, it's probably because you're the type of person who doesn't bother to investigate whether a product is right for them before they begin using it.
Moreover, I had to muscle them today again since I didn't receive a reply sighing the 24 hour period they promised, by telling they that I would tell everyone that convinced to get their app to abandon it their company, and that my bank had offered me a free terminal with no contract today, which is true.
5 mns ago, I received an email that my limit has increased to 3k per week and will get my fund deposited in my account in 24 hour. I hope it is true.
Anyway I owe it all to you Shareece because I couldn't find their phone # anywhere on the web. Thank you...Damus
What I'm looking for is something i can use for square as well as spreadsheets for tracking a lot of my business related costs - one day I'm hoping to graduate to a database, but right now spreadsheets work fine.
I'm also planning on using it to track how I make my products - a diary with pictures. I can also take this to seminars and make my note taking easier. Thanks!
We are waiting to have our account reviewed and get our limit raised or removed.
It appears to me that this company has an excellent product, and might well be a little overwhelmed, but hey... thats a good problem to have! Good for them.
I do not agree with the negativity about theft and scams at this point. Read the fine print. (we didn't, and were caught off guard)
I will post again and let everyone know how the situation was resolved.
