Complaint

I found this complaint on-line and my scenario was exactly the same.

I received a call with a recorded voice saying the call was from "Card Services" telling me that I needed to "act now to save money on my credit cards or the offer would expire."  Then I was given an option to press a number to be connected with a live operator and the option to press another number to stop receiving any more "notifications".  I pressed to speak to the "operator" to ask why they're calling me since I am on the Do Not Call list.  She hung up on me immediately.  I tried to call the number back, but the number I tried was disconnected.

    I just got the same call (I've been getting it every day for weeks), so I also pressed 1 to find out who they were.  She wouldn't tell me the company name, and when I asked why, she called me a [***] [***].  Can you believe that??  Does anyone know what can be done?  My phone company (Cox Communications) is useless and only tells me I can pay to get a call block on my number.

      I just got that same thing as well just a second ago so I screamed loud in her ear before hanging up.
      This is not the first time or the 14th time so I told my mother-in-law about this as well and she said to next time use a air horn so maybe I will, hehe.

        Demon, good idea.  I have a pretty load whistle and I have done that twice. I'm looking for a loud plastic whistle.   Its got to surprise them and might even hurt, but it does not stop the calls.  Nothing does.  The people that you get when pressing #1, most likely have no ability to take you off a list.  Further, they appear to know who they are working for and can get away with hang-ups, swearing or general rudeness.  I have filed complaints with the attorney general in CO and the FTC.  I am on state and national do not call lists.  If you have tried to call them back on the number they call you, you will get a this number "is no longer connected".  The problem with keeping them on hold and wasting their time, is that you also waste your own time.   I suspect that whoever is behind this buys up phone numbers, uses them for outgoing, then rotates them out.  Regulators cannot find them.  I suggest that everyone file complaints.  If the FTC and states attorney general get enough complaints they will put an inspector on it. If they can find them, they can prosecute them.  No owner, no company, no calls.   I got five calls this week.  Until there is a large number of "official complaints", I, like you, feel that the only way to deal with this sort of rudeness is to whistle, use an air horn, etc......anything that at least has agents quitting or not wanting to work for them.

          I agree.  I get at least 2 daily.  I called the Attorney General's office and the woman taking the calls says they're aware.  But I didn't get the impression that much was being done.  I'm on the Do not Call list.  and they are calling on my cell.  DAILY.... I can't believe something can't be done. They have this routing phone # showing it's coming from MI or CO.  I asked them nicely to stop calling.   I've acted like I was so excited about the offer.. they hung up on me, they knew I was faking.  They have told me they would stop calling.  I'm sure these folks need jobs so thats why they continue to stay.  But I wonder if people are really taking them up on their offer?  Something needs to be done.  I'm typing this now, because I just got another one.. and was trying to figure out how to block this one number..it's appeared 2 or 3 times.
          Something has to be done

            You are on the right track by trying to block the number.  On your cell phone, scroll to recent calls, select that number that called you and push your options button.  Scroll down to where you will find 'Reject this number', and select it.  You may have to do this several times, because they do use several different numbers.  It doesn't stop the calls from coming, but it will stop your phone from accepting them.  (I know this because my phone will show 'missed call', and yet it never rang.)  If I scroll to the number it shows as having missed a call from, it IS that rejected number.   I have been doing that for about a month now, and I can tell you the frequency of those calls have diminished like crazy.  (I too was getting maybe four or five a weeks.)  Hope this helps you.

              blocking their number is a waste of time, they use thousands of numbers, they have called me hundreds of times and I don't believe they have ever used the same number twice.

                        The best way to deal with these annoying calls is to just hang up. Even better, monitor your calls with an answering machine. They will eventually stop if they get no answer. They will continue calling even if you press the suggested number they say will end their calls. When you press either number they know someone is there and they will continue to calling trying to get more information from you to create a profile of your information. Even if you just want to waste their time and give them false information, they still get you to respond to their calls and will continue hounding you. If you always answer your phone, I strongly recommend to never press either number. Instead just hang up.

                  I have gotten these calls from them for years.  I changed my number and they found me again!!!  When I see a call from them on my Caller ID ("Card Services") I just ignore it and send it to voice mail.  Today I got two calls and it was MY number in the Caller ID so I answered it to see who was calling.  Low and behold it was Card Services.  I pressed the number to speak to someone only to get a rude and abusive person on the other end when I told him my number was on the Do Not Call Registry and asked him not to call anymore because I didn't have any credit cards.  He told me I would be called again and again.  When I said I would report him to the FBI, he said he would hold on while I called them.  He went on to say he knew where I live and all about me and my family.

                    The number that will show on the caller ID will be whatever the scammer chose.  Be aware that with an IP-based phone dialing system the user enters the information to show for caller ID.  In this scheme they usually choose a real number from a card-issuing bank so it appears more liegit.  I use the "keep them talking" approach.  First point out that only the issuing bank can offer a lower rate - that is when they really start tap dancing and repeat that they are with "Card Services" over and over.  Then ask them why if they are representing one of my card issuers wouldn't they have my account info and history.  No response.  Eventually I strongly state that I'm not giving my card number to a strange caller and ask them politely to move on to the next sucker.  That is when the verbal abuse really begins.

                I did the last number calling you once since I do not have caller id and it turned out to be my own number that supposedly called me.  Even worse for a short while I was getting irate calls to the tune of "why the he&& did you just call me?"  Seems a real estate scammer programmed my home phone number into his software and was hiding behind it to try to rip people off.  Having an unlisted number doesn't work either they just use random number generators call to see if there are valid numbers to use and then add those to their database of fake numbers to use.

              just got one of these calls the last 2 days. my caller id used to say credit card services with a 1-800 no. but the last 2 calls I received shows a local number of a resident across town, that I live in. I called her to let her know in case people did call her to chew her out for calling them every day. together we made a connection that only the last 2 digits of our landlines are different. they must have local town phone books in state I live in. they are getting smarter so they can't be traced and blame others for making the calls.

              They use fake "local" phone numbers, so it does no good to block the number.  They have some app that enables this deception.  At least three times "I called myself".  They have hung up, swore, and simply responded "good-bye" (*computer voice).  Reporting to anyone is fruitless.  Today, I played "Wipe Out" turned out loud.  Do you think they will ever get the message?  Evidently, there are many easily led people that make their calls worth the effort.

If you have ever filed a small claim you know the court wouldnt even serve the papers. You would have to do it yourself. And where will you send it to? They are definitely calling from outside United states, using computer to generate US phone numbers to show in your caller ID. Sorry, can't track these roaches! :(

            Blocking the call probably will have no effect.  I have AT&T uVerse and the phone numbers are displayed to me on my TV screen, but they have numerous numbers all coming from area code 417  exchange 476 or 800.  Every  time i get a call, i push 1 to get a "live" person.  The call usually disconnects or the person answering refuses to give me any information other than They want to know if Im interested in getting a lower interest rate.  They wont say what the rate will be .  Then I tell them I pay my account in full each  month.  At that point, they say well we cant give you a lower rate.  Thats when i ask why they keep calling me.  I inform they i am on the DO NOT Call List and they immediately hang up.  I never heard of any credit service asking if they can give you a lower rate before.  They dont even call to tell you they are going to increase your rate. That tells me this is some sort of scam.

          People need work, they will take any job they can get their hands on. Especially people who have no education to speak of. That's why you get unprofessionalism in these calls and hang ups. A reputable card company would never have the customer service rep hang up just for being asked to have your number removed from the call list. Why? Because you know the company who is calling you. Those CSR's make better money, because they probably have years of experience or at least a high school diploma - but probably a college degree.

          Ok, "Cardholder Services Brian". We did our own survey and here's the facts;
          Why do the “cardholder services” criminals mostly use white females, and black males as “live operators”?
          Does the predator match the “fronter” against its intended primary prey?
          Survey on U.S. based  “cardholder service” criminal operations from documented, and recorded incoming calls.
          Forty (40)  “cardholder service” robo-calls between 2012- 2014 were surveyed,
          out of hundreds received.
          They follow patterns of switching off to different call centers, dialers, fronters, live operators.

          Out of 40 surveyed  assumed ethnicity by voice;
          African American =    8 males   &    3 females
          Caucasian =       3 males  &   8 females
          East Indian =       5  males.
          Costa Rican/Hispanic =       3 Costa Rican males & 1 Hispanic female
          No connection to “live operator/fronter/rep“ =      9

          Day, and time of day called out of 40;

            Brian is a lying sack of [***].  Card services is a scam run by terrorist. They have been calling for the last 3-4 years. What they are doing is illegal. Was having a bad hair day 2 years ago, pressed the 1 button and listened to her scam for a minute, then went into a very vulgar nasty tirade (said things no man should say to a woman) she listened for about 10 seconds and said "you nasty fuped old man, I have you financial info and am going to Fu  up"  she hung up, and they keep calling. Caller ID now shows local numbers and fake name, as if your neighbor is calling.

            I like the air horn idea, let them sue me. Also wasting as much of their time a possible.

            This terror is not going to stop until:
            1) the telephone co's get involved and stops it.
            2) The idiots who fall for this scam grow a brain. They are partly responsible for causing this mess.  You Did NOT win the Nigerian Lottery, That e-mail Is NOT from the IRS. Yahoo does Not need you to confirm your e-mail password! Quit being so stupid, it effects all of us.

      I have a suggestion.
      I get these calls too.
      I assume the perps get paid somehow, probably from credit card fraud.
      To be honest, I wanted the 3% rate they quoted me.
      They asked me how much my interest rate is,
      I said I didn't know, I'd have to go get my last statement.
      I suggest that when they call, say that you need to go get your last card statement.
      Then just set the phone aside and let them wait till they hang up. Eventually they hopefully will put you on their no-call list.

        You can 'reject' the number if they are calling on a cell phone.  I don't know if this other works or not, but I read somewhere long ago, that if you answer a phone and you are getting the automated voice telling you, whatever.... if you just hit the pound key, repeatedly, the computer reads that the number is not a working number, and will not continue to auto dial it.  Don't know if that works for sure, but I do know that I don't get nearly as many of those calls as I used to.  Being on the Do Not Call list doesn't really effect anything at all.  I don't know why I even bothered.  Reputable companies adhere to it, but those aren't the one who repeatedly call.

I said I want no more calls, you are wasting time. she said since you are so rude, i'm putting you further back than you are today on the call list. I found out today she stuck to her words as revenge. yesterday the recording said I was caller 5, today I was caller 50 something. but everytime recording came on it dropped about 5 calls. I waited till I was last call and hung up. I guess they thought they had a sucker. no call back so far today, will see about tomorrow. can't wait, I have something planned for them.

              Hi, you can block calls on Verizon... but you need to go to the verizon website... sign up if you have never done that... sign in if you have already signed up... once you are signed in, scroll down a bit... it will say "I want to..." look under the "PLAN" column, last item is block calls... it will block up to 5 numbers for free for 3 months... I did a "print screen" to save the numbers and emailed it to myself!

      The block won't help because they use differnt phony numbers every day.  I paid to have the calls traced by Qwest and after the required three traces I was told they couldn't do anything because the numbers were all phony and not assigned to anyone.  Yesterday, I pressed "one" and when the guy answered I cussed him out and told him to quit calling. He said we'll just double the calls you [***]. Five miutes later I started getting calls from real people saying they were told that I was the only person that could get their number removed from the scammers file.  So much for cussing them out.  Now I get calls from people who are mad and trying to get off the list. I try to explain it to them but some don't listen..just cuss me out and hang up. I don't know  what the answer is as the phone company doesn't seem to care a bit.

        Don't stop blocking them.  Every single time you get a call like this, (especially works for cell phones, by putting the number on your reject list,) you have to be diligent about it.  I've only had to block three different numbers.  The calls continued for a while, but my phone did not ring, (showed up as "missed calls", and they eventually have all but stopped.  I used to get five or more per week, and now maybe I will get one every two weeks or so.

          Yeah, I block too -- so far I've blocked 100 (yes a hundred!) different numbers all for 'card services' and they just keep coming. I get a new number on average every 3 days, and they RARELY recycle the numbers any more. The FTC and Attorneys General seem uninterested and the Do Not Call list is a joke. How do we get the contact information for this business so we can sue them? A class action lawsuit would be perfect for this, and I could certainly be the 'lead plaintiff'! The only thing that will get their attention is if they have to pay .... but if we can't find them....

            someone said the FBI isn't interested because it is not a big crime.  If you add up all the money merchants lose from credit card fraud, I believe it would be a HUGE amount, easily worthy of FBI attention.
            All that would need to be done is to give them a bogus credit card number and then the FBI, working with the credit card company can TRACE where the fraudulent credit card info was entered.
            Or better yet, let the number WORK for a while, so the criminal keeps coming back to the same crime scene.  Surely the FBI, who is tracing ALL of our emails and phone calls, including this message, can manage to catch these guys!

Some phones show who it is too.  If you don't have one, and you can't hook a phone to your TV, I would save my money until I can get a phone that shows who it is.  Most all of them show who it is now, and if you can't read it like I can't , get a magnifiging glass to help you!  I wish all of YOU luck.....Bridget

      Be aware that credit card companies do not cold call its customers. They mail you the information and are happy to give you a call back number as verification.

Can anyone please tell me who this company is?  Then call me with different numbers, all from a local area code, all with the same 3 number pretext.  I have tried calling the number back and everyone was invalid or out of service. One I actually had someone answer who was oblivious that their number was being used in the scam. They are spoofing numbers which is a crime.  I really hope someone can tell me who these people are.
