I purchased a sofa and chair from a furniture store about 18 months ago. I chose the England brand furniture because I was told about their exceptional quality. Unfortunately, the fabric and cushions are wearing pre-maturely. The fabric is tearing and the cushions are loosing their shape. England refuses to acknowledge the tearing because the 1 year warranty has expired. They are looking into the cushion problem. I never had this problem with any other brand of living room furniture I purchased over the last 35 years.

My England sectional actually came from a consignment shop. 2 years old and is still in great condition. Very sturdy. I love it.

I think you would be okay with a sleeper sofa, just not the new materials that they are using rather than wood for support....you have to see it to understand what I'm talking about I will try to get some help to put a picture up so those of us who have this particular issue can be understood.

I also purchased a used England sleeper sofa and absolutely LOVE it.  Everyone compliments me on the design and comfort and can't believe what a deal I got or that it was used.

My wife and I purchased  an England recliner sofa, recliner love set and a recliner rocker on 1/4/12.  Delivered  on 2/4/12/, on 2/12/12 discovered a tear in the fabric on the couch.  Later that same day my wife got up from the couch and the arm separated from the body of the couch.  We found shards of wood on the floor under the couch we the separation had occurred  We examined the underside of the love seat and found that nails had split the wooden frame and the recliner was being held together by staples.  The wooden foot pad on the rocker is split from end to end. The furniture has been our house for eight days and is falling apart.  We can't keep this poorly constructed furniture.  We are senior citizens and our days of jumping on furniture are long gone.  I'm surprised that an American company would  manufacture such poor quality furniture and release it into the market.

We bought an England couch and love seat, hoping to do the "Buy American" thing from a local, family owned store...Cushions started sinking from the first moment...You could feel yourself sinking into the couch from the very beginning... The store sent out a set of replacement cushions, claiming they were "special" coil springed extra everything...ZIPPO...The extra 1/4" padding didn't do squat...
Problem is not just the cushions....The springs are cheap, thus the sinking deep into the abyss... You can feel the wood support coming thru on the arms... Our local family store wants to order another couch...BULL...We're going over to pick something else out, get our money back or call the local TV station to put our complaint on the air...DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BRAND...

There is a small factory in Star, NC making a wonderful product.  Lancer is the name.  Solid frames, coil cushion, lots of fabric to chose from and is basically the same price as England.

My husband and I purchased a  England sofa, loveseat, and chair from Twinsburg Home Furnishings in Ohio in April of 2011.  In August of 2011, we called the store owner that came out the same day and took pictures.  Needless to say by the other comments on here the fabric called Carlisle is coming apart in huge clumps.  It is all over my living room floor.  We have no small children, two are away at school, one is still home and typically does not sit on it often.  It literally is shedding away!!!!  Phillip at England furniture, informed me that they tested the fabric and there is nothing wrong with it and that I need to just vacuum it!!!!  His previous e-mail told me I may have cleaned it the wrong way???  He also reminded me that the warranty will be up in April???  I reminded him that I have been waiting for a resolution since August of 2011.  No one will help me!! I called BBB and e-mailed them, I called the Ohio Attorney General, they both said the business indicated that the company is in the process of resolving it??  No one is??  I know some of you have not experienced  problems, and I am glad, yet my problem is real and no one seems to care??  I waited a long time to buy new furniture, and now feel stuck with a mess!!!  BTW  Phillip informed me this is normal for that fabric??

I pur based a bed chesterfield last march and it has been broken since the beginning! The store manager came and looked at it twice, the second time he took pictures and contacted the company. They said it had abad  bed frame and would fix it. They took away the couch, then brought it back, saying  it needed a whole new frame and would take 3 weeks to get it in and repair it. It has now been 1month and today I was told it would be at least another month! I asked foe a new couch and was told the company doesn't do that. My grandchildren are coming for a visit and I need that extra bed!  I am not impressed with this company or product.

We purchased a couch and recliner in 2007. We started having problems with the fabric coming apart within the first 18 months. We contacted the store that we bought from and they said that the fabric had no recall on it so they could not do anything for us. We also have bad cushions as well. I understand that I can get the cushion foam replaced but why bother if the fabric looks like crap. We are in the process of shopping now for replacements. My first priority will be not to purchase from England again and to stay away from any fabric like it. How dissapointing.....

I have had England couch and 2 chair and a halves for 8 years now.  The couch fabric and design are holding up still!  I assume the factory is stil the same.  The chair and a halves fabric are just shreding, but that is because my family is rough on the furniture.  They are also made with 50% cotton.  Stay away from the lovely cottons or cotton blend prints that we are drawn to ladies.  If you are going to have family members slouch on ANY furniture, cotton is not the way to go.  Olefins, acrylics and polyesters are the best fabics for everyday use.  And look at fabric rub counts.  If you have a 60,000 rub count or higher, your fabric will stand up to abuse.  Most cottons have a rub count of 5,000 to 20,000 at best.  You can go buy Ashley furniture on the cheap, but you will be replacing it also in 5-years .

I have looked high and low, and basically furniture at best will last you 5-7 years before replacement is needed.  High end furniture may lasts longer, fabric fades, etc but you tire of it or goes out of date before it wears.  By the way, I loved my chair and a halves so much, I intend to order them again by England, only in the fabric choice of acrylics/polyesters- the chenille type fabrics.  You can add pizazz and print design with pillows and throws.

Wow!  I cannot believe all of these complaints.  It is true that more people will complain when they are not happy with a product, but these people did take the time to write in.  I am one of those people who will complain if not satisfied but also will write in and compliment a product if I am happy with it.  But, this is overwhelming, and the complaints are mostly about the cushions.  It is true that the type of fibers in a fabric is very important regarding how it will hold up through the years.  Polyester is really great, and cotton, while very pretty with vibrant colors, will wear quite quickly, especially if the sofa gets alot of usage.  I saw a really nice sofa and loverseat made by England last evening, and I was quite excited because I finally found a fabric they had that would work well with the other colors in my living room.  I always read reviews on products, and I thought that because it was made here in the USA, then the quality had to be quite good.  But, I am having serious second thoughts, and will probably not make this purchase.  However, it is very hard trying to locate a store that sells good quality made furniture at a reasonable price.  Most of the stores in my area are the big box type with locations throughout many states, and they carry mostly inexpensive junk, and maybe one sofa made by a good manufacturer like Clayton Marcus.  Nearly all of the manufacturers today are using plywood and other cheaper materials to keep the cost down, and I recently was informed by a salesman that this now includes Ethan Allen and Thomasville, however, their prices are still way up there.  It is so very discouraging today.  All I can say is "Buyer Beware" and be sure to do your homework before making a large purchase.  I am glad that I took the time to read your reviews.  Thank You.

I purchased an England sofa with matching loveseat glider five years ago.  After almost a year of putting up with the only uncomfortable furniture I have ever owned I called the furniture store where it was purchased and was told that there was nothing that could be done about it.  It is in the living room and has been used less than a year.  We sit in a room with comfortable furniture.  It loos good but is absolutely miserable to sit on.  All I can do now is spread the word.

I too have purchased a couch and loveseat from a furniture store in DELAWARE made by England Furniture in July 2011.  It is the worst pieces of sh*t  I ever brought. What a waste of good hard earned money.  The repair tech is coming today to repair seat cushions, headrest cushions (u have to use a pillow to keep from getting a kink in ur neck)  foot rest (foot rest on loveseat only goes up 13 inches and couch goes up 16 inches), gap between the seat cushions (u can put your arm in between the cushions and touch the floor), staples coming out, when in the reclining position the 2 back rest are uneven and a very hard to close.  That was after maybe 2 months use on each piece.   The service rep for the store says it will be like new when the repair tech is done-DUH it will practically be rebuilt. Apparently he dosent shop at his owe store and dosent have these pieces in his home. Next step is face to face with my video tape. We have a recliner that is made by LAzy BOy and as someone stated earlier they do not build these pieces. Do you research before you buy anything and check to see who makes it. My husband says this furniture wouldnt even make good firewood!!!!  I had better furniture when we first got married that lasted longer then 2 months-- now 30 years later the new and inproved isnt so improved.
So lets see how Mr. Philip Arnold and Terry  from  England Furniture response to this. Of course I bet they to dont have this in their homes !!!!!!!!!!!

I'm also in Delaware looking to purchase a sofa and loveseat by England (Oakland is the style), what store did you buy from?  Did you get any satisfaction from the company for the issues you were having?

I'm amazing how many people like to complain and don't make a true comparison.  Did anyone take into consideration furniture is not a concrete slab.  It is made from materials that with use will show wear.   England is a low to mid-range furniture line at best. If your going to compare it with Flex Steel and Smith Brothers sofa you truly have no idea what you purchased.  Your angry needs to be directed at the salesperson that failed to educate you on the construction of the sofa.   However, a person with some sense would also know for the vast price difference there must be a difference in construction etc.  I see where some people through out this exhaustive amount of complaints have compared it to an eight way hand tied sofa etc.   Once again compare apples to apples.    The average life of a sofa today is about 7 years.  This is true for the less expensive brands.   If you want a 25 year life expectancy from you furniture then go and purchase the sofa that will cost you $2500 and up.  Each person uses their furniture differently too.   Example one may notice that one side is showing more wear than the other.  Which side is getting more use would be a good question to ask.   You only get what you pay for.   I have purchased the England brand along with more expensive brands.  For me England works well as I tend to change my furniture out for a new color style etc.   So for me to invest $2500 in a sofa that I may have for 5 years is hardly worth it.  England has many videos on you tube etc showing its construction etc.  The company hasn't tried to hide anything from us.  Remember when something is seeing a lot of use it is going to show.  It is no different than tires on the car.   The more you drive on them the sooner the tread will wear.

For those of you who say that no one ever uses it or it isn't used often but the fabric is shredding.  GET A CLUE, do you really think it just shredded with out something causing this to occur?  Typically, this was caused by someone in the house that isn't coming forth or that pet that would never do that.
