I purchased a sofa and chair from a furniture store about 18 months ago. I chose the England brand furniture because I was told about their exceptional quality. Unfortunately, the fabric and cushions are wearing pre-maturely. The fabric is tearing and the cushions are loosing their shape. England refuses to acknowledge the tearing because the 1 year warranty has expired. They are looking into the cushion problem. I never had this problem with any other brand of living room furniture I purchased over the last 35 years.

I can't help being a bit amused by the number of times Flexsteel has been mentioned as a maker to aspire to.  We bought an expensive Flexsteel sofa, ottoman, and club chair several years ago.  We had the very problems that everyone is complaining of with their England sofas!   We had the pieces a very short time when the fabric stretched and started hanging in drapes across the back of the sofa, and the cushions totally lost their resiliency.  A rep came to the house to have a look, and his first words were "Wow, you've sure got a legitimate complaint."  He took all the cushions away for about 3 weeks but when they were returned, there was no significant improvement.  We doubted that they had done anything to them, and of course nothing was ever done about the loose, draping fabric across the backs.  Totally embarrassing to have people see the ugly things - or worse yet, to actually sit on them.  And NO, my husband and I are not big people (I have been a very slight 112 - 116 pounds all my adult life) and we are very careful/particular when it comes to caring for our home and furnishings.  Instead of swearing to never buy England, we swore we would never again purchase Flexsteel.  Gladly gave the junk to a young newlywed couple 3 years later.

Good point if that is what that is called that goes over the foam to hold it in place from the back and underneath the couch....I never had proper wording for it?

I just got my sofa and settee and wished I had read this comments. The print I have is sideways. Everything on the seatanhd back cushions is on its side. I will be curious to see what they say. When I viewed their site video they boasted about matching up prints and plaids. The prints on the arm go forward and the other arm go backward and all the rest is sideways. Seeing the floweres all on there sides is so upsetting. If they make it right I will let you all know.

We purchased an England sectional and chair from FrontRoom Furnishings in Columbus, OH about a year ago. We initially had problems with the chair, but it was replaced with no problems. The second time (with the same chair) the problems occurred (the arms were collapsing), they had us choose a different style of chair. Since then, we have been completely satisfied. Overall, England is a quality product for the price, and they stand behind their product.

We purchased an England sectional a few years ago from Crawford Furniture, in Buffalo, NY (now out of business), and have had some of the same problems many in this forum have had. Within a few months of purchase, several of the cushions were beginning to lose their shape and resilience - eventually getting so bad that two of the cushions barely had any spring to them at all, to the extent that you could feel the edge of the frame digging into your side when laying on certain parts of the couch, which was not just uncomfortable, but actually painful.

The furniture store wasn't much help, and I wound up having most of the cushions refilled through a local business that does cushioning for offices, hospitals, etc. When I picked them up, he showed me how they had filled the cushions at the factory - two relatively thin pieces of foam folded over and glued together, with thinner strips above and below that to fill the gaps. Basically as if they were filling the cushions with scraps of spare foam to cut costs, and why they would eventually flatten out over time. Once I had the cushions refilled with high density foam (a single piece for each cushion), the couch has been much more comfortable, and the cushions have retained their shape perfectly. While I haven't had any complaints about the fabric, which has held up relatively well, given that the cushions lost shape within a couple months of light use, I wouldn't buy this brand again.

I purchased a sofa and from Levin Furniture Store on 7/3/2009. I chose the England brand furniture because I was told about their exceptional quality and they were a division of LazBoy. Unfortunately, the fabric and cushions are wearing pre-maturely. The fabric is tearing and the cushions are loosing their shape.

I had purchased the Levin protection plan and called the store to complain.  A few days later they called and said my cushions were in.  That is all there was-foam.  That resolved the issue with shape.  But my corners are still worn and torn.  I have chairs that are over 20 yrs old I inherited from my mother that look better than this sofa.

I emailed the England company once with no response.  I take it they do not care about customer service and satisfaction.

I purchased England furniture in August 2009 and have not been very happy with it from the start.  The DuraCushion foam they say is so wonderful is horrible.  I purchased a sofa, love seat, chair and ottoman, and they are all uncomfortable.  When you sit on any piece it gives in a lot and the cording digs into the back of your legs which is very uncomfortable.  I live alone and the furniture has not had any hard use whatsoever.  I will never buy this brand again.  When you get up off a cushion they do not pop back into shape.  You pretty much have to lift the cushion up for it to pop back.  If you look at the sofa you will see that the cushions do not alilgn as they should. I  shift my cushions regularly--much more often than they recommend. Stay away from this furniture.

By the way, I spent close to $3,000 on this mistake.

Very upset about the england sofa we just purchased. We waited 4weeks to get another fabric put on it,not to mention we paid alot extra for that fabric. When we got it  home we noticed the cording did not line up and the fabric is very wrinkled in the front of the cushions. The sofa has the feel of poor quality with a price tag of nearly $1,000.The 10 year old  sofa we gave away was in better shape than this one.

I ordered a reclining sofa and loveseat from a local dealer.  When it arrived, the arm was not attached to the sofa and the cushions were misaligned.  Once the sofa or loveseat was in the reclining position, you would have to get off the sofa/loveseat, hold up the cushion, and then manually push the footrest back in place.  There was large gaps between the sections which was not attractive at all.  I was also told of the exceptional quality of England furniture, but I have yet to see it.  The local dealer picked up the two pieces for repair, but I am not convinced that, long term, the product would hold up.  I paid premium price for the product but did not get a premium product.  I requested a refund from the dealer and am told I will be receiving a check.  If that happens, I will feel very lucky to not have made a very expensive mistake.

How did you go about registering the furniture so you have an efective warranty?

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN ENGLAND SOFA. I HAD A FLEXSTEEL AND GOT TIRED OF THE FABRIC AND TO GET IT COVERED WAS MORE THAN A NEW SOFA SO I GOT A NEW SOFA FROM THE SAME PLACE AS THE FLEXSTEEL AND CHOSE AN ULTRASUEDE.  I HATED IT FROM THE DAY I GOT IT AND THE FURNITURE STORE TOOK IT BACK AND TOLD ME TO PICK OUT ANOTHER ONE AT AN ADDITIONAL $300 COST, AND I PICKED THE ENGLAND.  IT HAS PILLED SO BADLY ONLY AFTER 2 YEARS THAT I'M GOING TO HAVE TO GET ANOTHER SOFA.  IT'S TERRIBLE - I'M EMBARASSED TO HAVE COMPANY COME SIT ON IT.  I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SOFA FROM THAT PLACE - THEY SHOULDN'T CARRY SUCH CHEAT FURNITURE.

I very nervous reading all these posts.  I purchased a couch and love seat from England and have had some staple issues along with seeing the springs bulging underneath the cushions.  I haven't had these a year yet but can see that it is not quality furniture.  I paid way way way to much for this stuff.  It is only my husband and I and he travels with his work and is not home often so I'am the only one who really uses it.  If I'm noticing this poor quality already what will happen in another year or two.  My last furniture was lazy boy and it held up for 20 years with children.  I still have it in another room and hopefully I won't have to bring it back up to my livingroom in the near future.  SCARED!!

I've been a furniture retailer for 20 years now.  We've sold England Home Furnishings for the whole time I've been at the store, and even before.  Anyone who claims to have paid "premium" price for England furniture needs to be educated.  Premium living room sofas will start around $1500 to $2000, and that's a stationary (non reclining) sofa, and not necessarily in leather.  We had our first complaint that actually required sending the product back to the factory only recently, and it was picked up on a company truck and returned, completely repaired, in two weeks.  Cushion complaints are and have always been handled at the retail level by us, and England has always been quick to respond, usually simply UPSing new cushion cores to us in a week to ten days.  The problems that you folks seem to be having appear to me to be related more to the store you purchased your furniture from than the manufacturer.  We've been in business since 1958, and have built our reputation on standing behind what we sell, and when complaints inevitably come up, we advocate on behalf of our customer with the manufacturer.  England living room comprises at least half of the sofas and loveseats we sell - and we've sold hundreds of groups.  Mostly the stationary style, as we prefer la-z-boy to any other motion furniture.  We see 2 or 3 complaints a year on the England brand.  Of course, we're picky about the upholsteries we pick, and if a customer picks one for special order that we question the durability of, we tell them.  If they pick it anyway, despite our warning, we still do our best to stand behind it if they run into trouble.  Long story short, in my opinion (and I have an England sofa in my own home which is 14 years old now), England is not a brand to fear.  The most important thing in home furnishings is to stick with solid, reputable dealers with a long track record.  Good luck!

I think anyone wanting job security over honesty about the product they promote to sell a quality will lie.I have worked as sales person before & would not lie to sell a product.I too bought an Englander sofa but instead of quality that they might have had at one time, that is no longer the case. From the moment I sat on it the cushions would sink down into the back of the sofa. This was a $1700 sofa,so much for paying more & thinking you are getting quality.I realize that there is two basic reasons for the continued problem: one Very Poor Quality in the coils going across to hold up a person, and no I'm not a heavy woman. Two the cushions are made out of inferior foam. The fact that they put in coils into the cushions will not matter if the inferior coils going across frame won't hold them up without sinking in.I like so many people that have bought from Englander feel cheated because they are No Longer a quality furniture maker. The way they look at it is they got our money from us & now they do not have to be concerned about us any more. They can go on to Ripping off the next unsuspecting customer. This site for complaints hopefully will enlighten the next person about a better choice. All the complaints on furniture are about Englander & Lazy boy & no other for good reason they bought purchased Englander & both companys aremaking crappy furniture & not standing behind their quality. They do not answer their complaints or take care of them because if they did they would have to make changes to their products that they know exists!

We have had similar problems with our cushions.  I was told that it was made by Lazy Boy as well and watch a video online etc.  thought it would be a good purchase, because it wasn't cheap.  Then after a few weeks noticed the cushions really were not firm at all.  Compared to the floor model at the store they were terrible!  The fabric peels and you are supposed to flip the cushions but i have to vacuum the peels off before i can flip them.  i have some chairs from the 70's that have held up better than this has in the last 2 years.  I did purchase the 5 year accident policy since i have small children for $100.  I am so glad that I did since i live 2 hours from the store they have actually made a trip out to fix it once on their tab.  i'm thankful for that but very unhappy with the quality of the cushions!

I bought a sofa and love seat 6 years ago.  I still love them.  They are both in excellent condition and the cushions are fine.  I do turn them occasionally and straighten out the fabric so that the cording is straight.  I also vacuum it to keep the fabric clean -- dirt does weaken the fabric.  I have three grandchildren who are normal kids, so it's not that my furniture is not heavily used!!  I don't know if it's because of place of manufacture or what, but my set is wonderful.  I have noticed that my particular style is no longer available, which disappoints me, too.  I am really concerned about all the negative comments since I'm now ready to finish another room and my daughter also needs furniture for her great room.  I guess we'll have to check another company.
ENGLAND OWNERS take note -- you're losing a repeat customer and recommendation to others!!

My husband bought an England sofa, chair and  love seat in 2002.  Within 3 years the cushions on the couch were shot!!  We lived with it for 7 years because someone told us that it costs about $60 per cushion to repair.  I finally decided to give in and called Colders (where we bought them) on Oct. 6th to get them repaired.  They told me there was a ten year warranty on the cushions but since it expired Aug. 21st they wouldn't do anything about it.  They told me to call the manufacturer or call a foam distributor to have them fix them.  I called England today, Bob Woods (x1343), he told me they will not help me they don't deal with consumers only distributors and that I needed to call Colders.  So now that I want the cushions fixed Englad won't help me fix them, they won't honor a warranty for their poorly made furniture and they also won't answer any questions.  Colder's won't stand by the product they sold and won't even help me fix them either.  Any foam distributor suggestions?  I definitely will not buy England products again and will not be shopping at Colder's ever!!
