Leather sofas

We purchased a leather sofa and loveseat made by Chateau D'Ax and sold by Raymour & Flanigan. The sofas were extremely expensive but we considered them an investment. Leather is supposed to get better with age and last 2-3 times as long as upholstered furniture. Our couches certainly have not improved with age. The leather has worn thin and there are now multiple holes which a patch cannot take care of. The protective finish has also worn off the cushions. I called the company to ask about cleaning products and conditioners and a pompous fool could babble nothing but "your manufacturer's warranty has expired".Couldn't even offer me a list of approved cleaners or conditioners--heaven forbid a leather furniture manufacturer actually carry their own products. Save your money and buy less expensive couches and than just replce them every few years. I definitely do not recommend Chateau D'Ax, better re-named Chateau D'Crap!

We also purchased a leather sofa bed and two chairs by Chateau D'Ax at Macy's.  The sofa seat cushion immediately began to show signs of wear and thinning.  I called in a complaint and a tech came to my house.  He said this is "normal" and the leather is softening.  He rubbed something into it.  After 3 years, there were holes that were not fixable.  Now after 5 years I have a very expensive sofa that has foam exposed and I have to buy covers to hide it.  A local leather repair shop told me it would cost the same as a new sofa to repair the cushion.
This was a terrible investment and I hope people research the company better than I did before making a purchase.  Not surprisingly, there are several complaints online about Chateau D'Ax products.

Not acceptable and yet, Macy's still sells this poor quality furniture! Shame on them...

I too purchased my set at Filines which is now Macy's.  I had the exact problem with softening, rippling of leather.  They said the same thing that it was normal.  My expensive furniture looks like crap now!!!  Macy's does not stand by their products.

I purchased a leather set by Chateau D'Ax at Macy's also.  I purchased the set about 16 years ago and it's now ready to be replaced.  It does have a couple of small holes but in fairness I have two dogs, who although are not allowed on the furniture, they tend to indulge when we are not home.  I feel the quality of my set was what I expected very good.  I paid around 3500.00 16 years ago.   Now everything is bonded leather which is trash and doesn't last beyond a year.

I have no dogs and my Chateau D’Aux leather pieces did loose the shine in one year, in 2 there was no color on were we sit and where you would touch the sofa))))). And the funny think is that we do no sit. We work all day. I went there to complain and I kept getting the run around. No one would help. Call this number, go this person, go to Macys where you got it from. Very disappointing customer service.

I use Renewal brand leather cleaner and conditioner. I use it once every 6-12 months. My modular is from macys called viceversa. I have had it for 11 years and still looks like new. And I still get compliments on it. So perhaps the people that are complaining should learn to sit like a human on a sofa and not a sloth on a couch.

Our Chateau d'ax loveseat is so slippery we slide off from it.  It looks good but is almost a joke when people sit on it and almost slip off.   We've had it quite awhile.  We used a protective leather cream once on it.  Am sorry I did now.  Does anyone know how to make this leather (it's a red analine?) nonslippery, other than applying Velcro strips to your clothes.  haha.
I have tried to contact the company in vain.

The sofa doesnt get slippery unless the person sitting on it is greasy or full of lube. Try cleaning with water and dawn dish soap and later condition the leather.

Chateau D'Ax is a very big furniture company that produce their goods in many different countries all over the world. They will produce anything for you, starting with a low end product to top of the line modern contemporary heavy leather production that retailed in some chain or boutique stores for over $15,000 for a sofa love and chair.

You can easy compare them to Natuzzi in a way of operations and quality of product. In my opinion when you purchase a product that is made in northern Italy you will get a better deal in terms of quality and price from Chateau D'Ax than Natuzzi.
If you are planing to buy a leather 3 PC set in a range of $4,000-$6,000 retail value Chateau D'Ax will be a winner.

As an end client it is very difficult to understand what product are you purchasing and from who.Every model produced, could be feet to the retailer specific needs like : price , color, feel or design .
It is important to understand when you are buying from a large retailer their point of view is very simple : What is the net profit at the end of the year.
In this case, you as an end user loose . You might get a better leather on places you use and cheap leather quality all over. In the market today There are many cheap leathers so you actually not getting a good quality product. Now, if you paid around $1,400 - 1600 for a leather sofa you could find similar product a little cheaper but, you didn't overpaid and at list in your case you have Macy's that their customer service should take care of it somehow.
The Only thing I would recommend you for your next purchase is get the Chateau D'Ax product that cost only about 20% more, made in Northen Italy,Full grain leather all around the product and choose the higher grade. You will be safe for many years to come.
Get it in the higher end stores like blooming-dales or some furniture boutique stores.

    Hope it is helpful

Here in France, Chateau D'Ax furniture is made in Italy not in China. I have purchased two settees (sofas) from Chateau D'Ax in the past 10 years with no complaints. Their prices are in the medium to high end, but so is there quality as far as I'm concerned. Be very wary if an item is labelled Chateau D'Ax and it's made in China, avoid it.

I bought Chateau D'Ax four piece leather set at Dayton's Home Store later purchased by Macy's.  It was the Darcy line made in Italy. I've had my furniture now for 11 years.  Dogs jump on and off of it all the time.  Lots of use and moving and looks like the day I bought it.  No wear, no scratches.  I would definitely buy again.
