Leather sofas

We purchased a leather sofa and loveseat made by Chateau D'Ax and sold by Raymour & Flanigan. The sofas were extremely expensive but we considered them an investment. Leather is supposed to get better with age and last 2-3 times as long as upholstered furniture. Our couches certainly have not improved with age. The leather has worn thin and there are now multiple holes which a patch cannot take care of. The protective finish has also worn off the cushions. I called the company to ask about cleaning products and conditioners and a pompous fool could babble nothing but "your manufacturer's warranty has expired".Couldn't even offer me a list of approved cleaners or conditioners--heaven forbid a leather furniture manufacturer actually carry their own products. Save your money and buy less expensive couches and than just replce them every few years. I definitely do not recommend Chateau D'Ax, better re-named Chateau D'Crap!

I am thinking of buying the Chateau d'Ax CORSICA in black full grain leather from Bloomingdale's. It is a 2 pc. sectional. Has anyone had any experience with this model and Bloomingdale's warrenties and promises? Bloomingdale's is owned by the same company as Macy's and reading all these comments I am very discouraged about buying anything leather or their 'worry no more' warranty' which by the way is almost $600 plus almost $200 for delivery. The sectional itself will be around $4000, nothing cheap here. This sectional according to the salesman is made in Italy with those 'Pirelli' straps for support. Could someone please give their experience with Bloomingdale's leather furniture in general and this model in particular as soon as possible? - Also, has anyone heard of Flexsteel upholstery - both in fabric and leather - it is made in the good old USA - in NC - any comments? Please? Thanks a lot.

Adnil, I am also looking at Chateau D'ax Damon at Macy's (in brown). The company is sending me a swatch. I have another brand leather sofa that is splitting after about 8 years. I asked the salesman about the issue of the leather splitting. He said my old couch must have been bonded leather (which I do recall the salesman saying years ago) and that the Damon is made with top grain leather (though the sides are made with a cheaper leather) so it will not split. Have you gotten the Damon yet? If so, what do you think of it? I was told that even if I order the couch and loveseat now they would not be in until late April 2013.

Has any one purchased the "Franco Leather Reclining Sofa, Loveseat and Chair" from Macy's?  There are 6 reviews for them in their website and 5 of them have provided 5 stars and one person has given 1 star. So, wanted to get some feedback regarding this particular furniture.

We are thinking of purchasing the Chateau D'ax Ryder 2 Piece Sectional from Bloomingdales. We are concerned now because of the review. I wonder if it is the same quality as Macy's sells?

When was the exact moment that people became unable to make a decision? If you want to cancel on order on ANYTHING because you read 2 negative reviews somewhere, that's just ludicrous. You can't name me a single brand of anything that doesn't have negative reviews.

I palced an order this morning for the Carmone sectional with Macy's. Having researched it, I have now called and cancelled. There is overwhelming reviews on the web, 99 % negative of the maker, Chateua D'ax and of how Macy's have handled all their complaints. You may want to do a little research before claiming few as 2 negative reviews changing anyone's mind. I have never seen so much feedback and yet the maker and seller seem to refuse to acknowledge the evidence.

BUYER BEWARE, THIS CHATEAU D'AX peels and is NOT 100% :Leather, it peels off a bonded material that is underneath.  Paid a lot for this set and now it is worthless, the couch cousion is peeling terrible,  I have no children at home nor any animals. I take care of my furniture very well.  This is FRAUD!!!!  Selling and advertising 100% ;leather when it is no where near leather.  All it is a really thin layer of vinyl over a bonded material and when it comes off, all you have is bubbled vinyl that flakes off and then you have a dull bonded material, and am told there is NO WAY to repair said item.  We have only had this set for 3 yrs. paid thousands of dollars for it and now all we have to show for it is peeling crap!!!  DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM CHATEAU D'AX.  In Italian it must mean "crappy furniture"!!!!!!!  SO ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am with you Patsy on this. We have not been able to obtain any satisfaction -- excuses, untruths, everything except what we asked:
1. that they make some offer to remedy the matter
2. That they inform the public about the nature of this bonded/bi carb "leather" that will peel in time.

Looking at legal remedies as even the AG has not been able to help me or tool down to the truth. Also looking for people willing to go in together to stop them from continuing to sell this inferior product as real leather.

NEVER buy anything from them!

I bought my coach from R&F WestSide for more than $3000. The leather was supposed to be 100% genuine. HOWEVER, in _less than a year_ it started chipping and tearing!!!

While the quality of leather was obviously of the lowest quality, I had their insurance - they offered me to buy it if I would like to change leather later.

So I decided to wait a little because I will have only one chance to use the insurance.
Approximately after 3 years, when the view of the coach has become simply unbearable, I claimed the insurance. Their representative came and made some photos. And after several days they called back.

Image what they told me? "The damage is made by a customer!!!"
SURE [***]! I made a mistake sitting on your precious leather coach!

Eventually, even after long conversations with them they refused to do ANYTHING about the situation!

NEVER
BUY
ANYTHING
FROM
RAYMOUR & FLANIGAN.

100% agree with the negative posters.  We purchased two leather sofas and a chair.  These have gradually lost their finish and have been a huge disappointment.  First the arms became sticky to the touch.  Next the back cushions became sticky and now the bottom cushions are in the same shape.  The dye will also transfer to our shirts if we make the mistake of sitting back without something in between us and the cushion.  This all started about 3 years after purchase so naturally there is no recourse.  THere is also nothing that can be done to repair the surfaces.  We have thrown one couch out and are just about to get rid of the other one.  This furniture great when it was new.  It is now an embarrassment.

Those that have not had a similar experience either were lucky enough to get a sofa or chair that was manufactured correctly or rarely sit on them.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING MANUFACTURED BY CHATEAUX D'AX!  DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE POSITIVE COMMENTS ON THIS BOARD!  YOU WILL MORE LIKELY THAN NOT BE SORRY YOU DID.  THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT I HAVE EVER FELT STRONGLY ENOUGH TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A PURCHASE IN A FORUM LIKE THIS SO PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE.

I happened to do a lot of research into the Chateau D'ax Brand as well. What I found was as follows: In Europe Chateau D'Ax is a very expensive luxury sofa, considered equal or better than Natuzzi. Now, the sofa's in the Chateau line over there aren't $1799 like at Macy's. They start at $6000! After trying to figure out what was going on, I called a Chateau distributor who said that the European Chateau Dax are hand built in Italy with all the best techniques and materials. The mass produced ones sold at Macy's and Raymour's for under $2000 are made in China using real Italian leather but with much inferior construction and labor.

Now there are some Italian original Chateau Dax sofas (not from China) sold in the States, for example the Bloomingdale's Nova sofa (http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/bl ... ional?ID=542848) is made by Chateau Dax at their Italian factory. But if the link works, you will see that it costs $9000 to get one. And that Chateau D'ax sofa is as good as any sofa can be. Basically, all the negative Chateau reviews out there are about the chinese made ones for under $2000.

So the people who are so angry, dont understand that you dont spend under $3000 for a sofa and expect to get a quality built piece of furniture that will last. It has nothing to do with Chateau Dax

Speaking further to this discussion. I found the following http://www.furnituretoday.com/article/471437- ... e-leather-plant . This explains the poor results experienced by these consumers and will negatively impact the Chateau D'ax brand and since most consumers do so little research before buying something they end up getting stuck with questionable product at over inflated prices, The latter the result of questionable practices by a shady retail sector and an equally dubious manufacturing sector. Consumers want something at the lowest price point  thus undermining even the most [apparently] respected brands which are in turn forced to seek lower costs to either increase or maintain the profit levels they are accustomed to.

I purchased a leather sofa at Macy's furniture store located on 34th Street Herald Square for a good amount of money in 2009 and by begining of 2011 it started peeling and Macy's told there is nothing they can do since I did not put insurance on it. I am very disappointed with Macy's and the product. I need to know if there is a way to replace the seat since the body remains in good condition.

               Sincerely,

                             Argatha B.

I purchased the Martino sectional couch and had it now for two weeks.  I find it to be very sticky and I'm having a eczema flare up. I thought I saw several scratches on it but realized many areas are peeling already! I couldn't believe it. Macys is refunding me luckily, and will not do business w/ them again.  I don't believe that's its top grain leather!  Not happy w/ this purchase!  Has anyone else had a sticky couch or eczema flare ups? I've had other leather pieces before and didn't experience this.  We contacted Chateau D'ax and they said it was a cow and it sweats and that's what the sticky feel is.  What??!!  They we're helpful at all.  To the customer who is interested in the martino couch, I wouldn't do it!  Believe these reviews!
