Leather sofas

We purchased a leather sofa and loveseat made by Chateau D'Ax and sold by Raymour & Flanigan. The sofas were extremely expensive but we considered them an investment. Leather is supposed to get better with age and last 2-3 times as long as upholstered furniture. Our couches certainly have not improved with age. The leather has worn thin and there are now multiple holes which a patch cannot take care of. The protective finish has also worn off the cushions. I called the company to ask about cleaning products and conditioners and a pompous fool could babble nothing but "your manufacturer's warranty has expired".Couldn't even offer me a list of approved cleaners or conditioners--heaven forbid a leather furniture manufacturer actually carry their own products. Save your money and buy less expensive couches and than just replce them every few years. I definitely do not recommend Chateau D'Ax, better re-named Chateau D'Crap!

I contact the company via e-mail yesterday about a connector for our leather sectional that our movers had lost.  I received an answer today, asking for the model .  Once I provided it to the Representative at Chateau D'ax via e-mail, I received a note back within the hour that my part was on the way, free of charge.  Here is who I contacted:

    Chris Langford

thanks for the info!  It is even hard to find them on the web!  I am having the same issue with my leather couch.  The leather in the middle cushion have worn and ripped in three spots!  Ugh!  And I really love this couch!  I just hope they can give me the same leather so I can get it fixed!

        Audrey,
I am interested in knowing how your quest for leather for a repair went, as I have the same problem and am facing the same search.

BTW, my couch and chair are six years old, are sat in constantly, and show no wear and tear above what would be considered normal. Unlike many other posters, thankfully we seem to have two quality pieces (the repair is because a child slit the leather with a plaything :( ). But to be honest, I did refuse delivery of two items because of their appearance before we ended up with these pieces.

I purchased a set from Chateau D'ax 16 years ago and that leather set wore like iron.  It was one of the best sets I had.  It was real leather, never peeled or faded just wore beautifully, which added charm to the set.  Cushions held up great. This is under the constant beating by two growing toddlers and two dogs, one of them a Mastiff, who occassionally took liberties with our furniture.  Now that I'm trying to replace the set, I've seen horrific complaints about Chateau D'ax leather sets purchased through Macy's.  Where the leather is peeling.  Real top grain leather does not peel.  Only bonded or bi-cast leather would peel like this.  I read that one person talked to a customer service rep over there that admitted they did use bi-cast on some of the sets.  They have two manufacturing plants one in China and one in Italy.  My set had come from Italy years ago.  It seems they are now producing a lower quality line out of China.  When I called they refused to admit they sold bi cast however they did admit to having two manufacturing sites, one in China and one in Italy.  They told me that if I wanted the furniture from Italy I would have to pay more and get it from Bloomingdales.  Now the set I was looking at in Macy's was in the vicinity of  $4.000.000.  That is a hefty sum to pay for bonded or bi-cast leather that will most likely last from 3-6 months.    Bloomingdales was about $6,500.00   So they are grossly overcharging for bonded/bi-cast leather and using false advertising while jacking up the authentic item.  Very disturbing.  The only way it will stop is for people who got burned by Chateau D'ax to start a class action suit.  Like what was done to Kanes and Raymour Flannigan.  You can start a class action suit online.

I also purchased / was duped by Macy's selling the same Chateux D'ax back in 2010 - now our sleeper sofa looks like a couch from a crack house.  Check Top Class Actions for further information as I have initiated an investigation into whether we can begin the CAL against Macy's.

I bought the Soho sofa, chair & ottoman less than 3 years ago from Bernie & Phyl's. We really liked the size and style of the pieces and had been very happy with how they have held up until this past week. My husband sat down on the couch and we heard a loud crack as the frame split in half under the middle cushion. I was even more angered to read on their website that they only warranty their frames for 2 years. Who pays that much for a sofa that is only guaranteed for 2 years? If I wanted disposable furniture I would have spent half as much at Ikea and not felt bad replacing it.

Thanks to Marion's post I emailed the company (of course there is no contact info on their website). I am interested to see what their response is, though I don't expect them to stand behind their product. If they did they would have a warranty longer than 2 years.

Did you get any response from Chateau Dax? My sofa, 1.5 years old, has list all cushion support. Warranty expired, Macy's no help.

I had the same issue with my Chateau D'Ax Draper sold by Bloomingdales. I ordered it back in 2013 and it took 16 weeks to arrive. I was quite pleased with it but by late 2015 the center cushion began to sink and I heard a clunk inside of it. Since I thankfully bought the extended warranty I called the store and they send a technician out to look at it. He flipped it over, cut out a piece of the under fabric and inspected it. Apparently one of the springs broke away from the frame bracket. He said that he would be able to get a new bracket and be able to shore up the others. A couple of weeks later another technician came and looked at the couch and told me it was not repairing. He called the office to order a new couch. I followed up a couple of weeks later with them but they were unable to find a replacement because Chateau D'Ax no longer makes this model or a similar one. Bloomingdales ended up crediting my account however I've check out their line and I can't find one that is similar. I'll probably just ask for a refund and buy one elsewhere. Restoration Hardware has some new nice Mid-Century models that are similar. Hopefully their quality is better.

Purchased a collection from.maceys an over stuffed one. The only problem was the color.lightened. A little on the.arms I had stain safe protection. There was no problem getting it replaced. I am sorry today I did it. I have had 2 other collections and each of them the color discolored off the arms and the back plus the seats. They came from Ashley I was told I was told with this other company no discoloration was covered under their plans. They just aren't making leather sofas like was covered under their plan. They just don't have the craftsmanship like that used to. Go to Kenwood Macy's and check there because they sent 2 Italy and it took a couple of months 4 the collection 2 b made it was flawless. I m sorry right today I'll let it go hopefully Connie still works there.p.

Bought the Chateau de Ax - Leather L shape sofa and ottoman at Bloomingdales.

      $$$

2 years later the frame on the ottoman collapsed

They sent a repairman out who said that he could fix but they might just replace as it was a defect in the glue.

I called to see the status-
They denied a claim to do anything.

DONT BUY THE BRAND OR FROM BLOOMINDALES.

THEY DONT STAND BEHIND THERE WARRANTEE!!

We just purchased the Chateau D'Ax sectional made in Northen Italy,Full grain leather all around the product and chose a higher grade. The sofa's seemed a bit expensive but we decided to purchase an "all around" warranty for 7 years that covers it from ANY defects including accidental, it was not cheap but we figured it was worth the investment.  No complaints so far and I read many reviews on this particular style and all were positive.  Yes, we purchased the sectional at Macy's and paid almost 6K for it.  Couldn't be happier.

Your Happy with Chateau D'Ax Friend,

Go to a Sofa Mart at any Furniture Row in the country. They have leather cleaners that are used on all of their leather brands, including Natuzzi, Cheers, Superb Creations, JNB and Chateau d'Ax. It is $9.99 a bottle, you will also need to condition your sofa. A lot of the problem with companies that sell leather furniture, is that they don't tell customers about how they need to take care of the leather. Leather conditioner helps keep the color in the leather, and protect it from fading and looking worn out. I would also question any leather that has holes worn into it. Chateau d'Ax and Natuzzi are very well made pieces of furniture, but if you are buying leather you need to find out if you are getting a full grain leather or a split hide. See if the sales person knows what they are talking about. Sofa Mart sales people go through product training and can tell you what you are buying and even show you how your furniture is built by flipping the sofa over and removing the dust cover so you can see first hand how it is built.
