Leather sofas

We purchased a leather sofa and loveseat made by Chateau D'Ax and sold by Raymour & Flanigan. The sofas were extremely expensive but we considered them an investment. Leather is supposed to get better with age and last 2-3 times as long as upholstered furniture. Our couches certainly have not improved with age. The leather has worn thin and there are now multiple holes which a patch cannot take care of. The protective finish has also worn off the cushions. I called the company to ask about cleaning products and conditioners and a pompous fool could babble nothing but "your manufacturer's warranty has expired".Couldn't even offer me a list of approved cleaners or conditioners--heaven forbid a leather furniture manufacturer actually carry their own products. Save your money and buy less expensive couches and than just replce them every few years. I definitely do not recommend Chateau D'Ax, better re-named Chateau D'Crap!

I purchased Chateau D'Ax sofa, loveseat, chair, 2 ottomans from Macy's in 2004 ~ total $3458. Also purchased the "Worry No More" warranty for additional $219.00.  The color has come off of the chair arms and seat cushion, and those areas have turned dark. The color ends up on the damp towel when wiping down the arms or cushions. Also, some stitching has unraveled on the ottomans. Forget about protection from "Worry No More." They declined my claim saying that "leather color loss" is not covered under the plan. I've contacted MACY'S to complain. They also say...too bad so sad. They will let me purchase a new chair for $999 less 10%.  How very nice.  I just cancelled my new $4859 purchase!

i just purchased the chateau de ax Ricardo sectional and the love seat arm by the recline button the leather stuck to each other and now they don't have any color. it looks like it was painted on and when  the 2 pieces of leather made contact in the delivery truck with the heat by 4 pm. the materials stuck together and now they don't have color in spots all down the area of the button which I think is way to low to reach comfortably. But the reclining of the furniture is the best. it is way to comfortable,. so I don't know what to do. and the color Cognac is a little too bold. I'm thinking i should have ordered the brown, but hard to pick from a 4x4 square sample..I bought the" don't worry plan" too @ 400.00 more for all the pieces and now I hear they don't cover that part of the leather wear..in this case the color coming off..we use our furniture a lot so I don't think I will keep the set, not if there are so many negative complaints. I searched a lot of sites and they were more negative on the structure and very postive on the comfort..that is for sure..

I work in Macy's furniture. The WorryNoMore plan you purchased covers accidents only. The factory warranty on the leather is 1 year. That's why you weren't covered.

please tell me if you purchased the cream sectional at macys and how the jeans clothings rubbed on the couch holds in the leather. I read comments saying that the ink in jeans can discolored into the leather and when you cleaned this off it leaves a film of blueshish tint to it. please reply.
                                          thanks.

The issue is that many Chateau D'Ax "leather" pieces are made from bi-cast leather rather than of top grain or another true leather. The "leather" is more of a leather veneer attached to a synthetic layer beneath.  Some manufacturers ended up producing furniture from this material prior to really knowing how bad it would be, so it was not necessarily on purpose that we got stuck with consumer garbage.  But... it sure it a disappointment to be sitting with a useless couch or chair as a resul.

Thanks, Jesse.  Those two links are the most helpful in understanding what is probably what my "leather" Chateau d"Ax furniture is actually made of.  The tag says design, leather tanning made in Italy.  Frame, components, assembly made in China.  My chair has peeled so much I'm embarrassed to have it in the living room.  It seems like a thin layer of plastic is peeling off.  And under that peeling does not look like leather.  Silly me, I thought I was buying Italian leather.  I called the store where I purchased it 6 yrs ago and they "can't help" me because the warranty was one year, though their sales people tell you they only sell the finest leather and they will stand behind what they sell.  I went to that store (Mooradians, in Albany, NY) because they are a local company that I thought I could trust.  The sofa wasn't super expensive because it was an overstock sale, not because it was inferior.  Make sure you read the tags and get any promises in writing.

I PURCHASED A 3PC CHATEAU D'AX LEATHER LIVING ROOM SET FROM MACYS ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO. MUCH TO MY DISMAY THE LEATHER IS PEELING ESPECIALLY ON THE MIDDLE SOFA CUSHION. IT LOOKS LIKE SOMONE HAS TAKEN A CHEESE GRATER AND SHAVED THE COLOR OFF AND I'M CONSTATNLY HAVING TO VACCUUM LEATHER SHAVINGS OFF THE FLOOR. IT'S VERY DISAPPOINTING BECAUSE I DO LIVE ALONE AND THE SOFA IS HARDLY EVER USED. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS BRAND OF LEATHER FURNITURE TO ANYONE.

How do you treat your leather? How heavy are  you? Do you just let yourself fall on the sofa? Things need to be nurtured and taken care of. Regardless if you buy a RollsRoyce or Kia.. if you treat it like a garbage can, it will
      Turn
      Into a garbage
      Can!

I have a cream sectional from Chateau d'ax...it was made on 03 and still looks new. has been in high traffic area for most it's life. also sat in a storage unit for a min leather on leather and when pealed apart there was no color transfer or any other bs going on.

Also this set came with a very detailed leather cleaning kit....I read a comment above that maybe some of you may need to remember.

...You get what you pay for.

If you want high grade top of the line Italian leather, dont scoff at the price tag and goto the discount store. You WILL get crap for crap prices. Sorry for everyones bad luck...be more careful

i always enjoy the comments from those superior consumers, who've never made a anything except perfect purchases:-)  the same ilk who think everyone can get a 100K+ job if they only tried.... The same kind that when something happens to them, go off the deep end.

The tags on these pieces do not mention bonded or bicast leather as they should.  The company making or selling should pay up.  Buyer beware needs to change to manufacturer/retailer beware.  In the mean time, this web site and the folks participating are awesome.  We can ignore the "i'm better than you" posters.

Just bought a Chateau D'AX leather sofa and loveseat (recliners) from Macy's. When they were delivered the power cods were missing. They were supposed to be sent separately, but through a comedy of errors were sent to a neighbors house. The [***] neighbor didn't speak much English and kept the package for five days until we figured it out and retrieved it. Meanwhile we complained to Macy's, Neshaminy Mall, PA. Our salesman, BEN, was excellent. He reported the problem and it went all the way to the top. We got many calls from customer service and Macy's until the problem was quickly resolved. A repair guy was sent out from N.Y, with extra parts the day after we reported the problem.  Meanwhile we had gotten the parts from [***] neighbor. Macy's gave us a $50 gift certificate for our trouble.

Most people write on this site with negative comments . Mine is positive. I don't know what the future will hold but I got a 7 year warranty
