Leather sofas

We purchased a leather sofa and loveseat made by Chateau D'Ax and sold by Raymour & Flanigan. The sofas were extremely expensive but we considered them an investment. Leather is supposed to get better with age and last 2-3 times as long as upholstered furniture. Our couches certainly have not improved with age. The leather has worn thin and there are now multiple holes which a patch cannot take care of. The protective finish has also worn off the cushions. I called the company to ask about cleaning products and conditioners and a pompous fool could babble nothing but "your manufacturer's warranty has expired".Couldn't even offer me a list of approved cleaners or conditioners--heaven forbid a leather furniture manufacturer actually carry their own products. Save your money and buy less expensive couches and than just replce them every few years. I definitely do not recommend Chateau D'Ax, better re-named Chateau D'Crap!

I purchased the Martino sectional couch and had it now for two weeks.  I find it to be very sticky and I'm having a eczema flare up. I thought I saw several scratches on it but realized many areas are peeling already! I couldn't believe it. Macys is refunding me luckily, and will not do business w/ them again.  I don't believe that's its top grain leather!  Not happy w/ this purchase!  Has anyone else had a sticky couch or eczema flare ups? I've had other leather pieces before and didn't experience this.  We contacted Chateau D'ax and they said it was a cow and it sweats and that's what the sticky feel is.  What??!!  They we're helpful at all.  To the customer who is interested in the martino couch, I wouldn't do it!  Believe these reviews!

I have been researching the leather furniture at Macy's in NC. I want the Novara sectional. It has power motion backs and recliners. Very sleek and perfect for what we need. However, I don't want to spend money on a couch that may peel. Quite by accident, I found that it was made by Chateau D'ax.
I am disappointed to say the least. I waited 13 years to get new furniture and now the thing I want may be absolute crap!

My husband thinks its awesome and will not entertain any other look. If I am going to pay five grand for a sofa, it better last. It looks like I would have to buy a premium extended warranty if available. Oy! Not looking forward to finding something else.

I agree with the comment made by nolonger up above. Its clear that all the negative reviews here about Chateau are about the chinese made ones bought at Macys or Raymour and Flanigan.  I looked into the link at Bloomingdales and called them and that $9000 sofa is indeed made by Chateau in Italy. I read some European reviews about that sofa (called Atlantico over there) and it gets rave reviews about the leather and longevity even 10 years down the road.  I guess all this goes to show you get what you pay for.

I had a leather sofa, love seat & chair. I was gorgeous brown leather with baseball stitching that I just loved!!  Then the stitching came undone, the leather cracking and then the rips. I was so embarrassed I bought brown fleece to cover up the seats. Eventually I threw it all in the alley.

We also bought a chair and a sofa from Chateau D'ax 7 years ago.  About 3 years ago they started falling apart and are in terrible shape now.  Terribly disappointed and will never buy their furniture again.

THANK YOU ALL for posting your experiences.  I was considering buying the RYDER sofa by Chateau D'AX after seeing it in Bloomingdales.  Beautiful looking but will definitely NOT make the purchase.

We purchased a 3 piece set around 8 years ago.  All was fine until recently the bonded leather started separating on the love seat and the couch.   The leather on the cushion have separated from the backing material .  The leather is extremely thin.  Threw away the loveseat and will have to throw away the sofa soon. Never ever buy bonded leather.

      Jackie,

Please, please read the numerous posts on this site warning about making any type f purchase from this company/manufacturer. I believe you will be very happy you took the time to investigate the company, their products. The positive posts are oddly similar and suspicious to me so be wary of them ... read them but be wary.

      Wishing you you well.

The company makes crap. When you purchase furniture and you are told you are getting 100% leather and it is bonded crap.  You are being lied to.

We bought ours in 2009 and it has begun cracking and peeling all over! Apparently we just need 10 dissatisfied customers (I think with proof of purchase) to file a class action suit to get our money back from manufacturer. Does anyone know how to go about this? Do I have 9 more ppl wanting to get in on it?

We bought ours in 2005. Chateaux D'Ax from Macys in King of Prussia.PA .
It started peeling a little by 2009, and by now, 2014, it is all torn up and looks a mess.
They said it was Leather. We believed them. It's actually more related to plastic.

WHAT A CON JOB BOTH MACYS AND CHATEAUX D'AX DID ON US!
      CONSPIRACY?

Its still a nice cushiony couch however it looks like pirannah's ate it for breakfast lunch and dinner.
      Stay away.

Class action....not to be  a pessimist -  would allow the lawyers to get very rich and consumer get on average $5.35

Still, i'd go in with a class action as long as the public would be fairly warned about this company, the dept stores, and this inferior product!

Purchased our Chateau bicast Franklin set in March 2012. Already cracking and peeling very badly. We did purchase the protection plan for each piece, but we were informed by Hom Furniture that it was "extremely rare" for something like this to happen to a Chateau piece. I asked several sales people as well as the store manager, Susan, and they each stated they no longer carry bicast leather Chateau items but they "have no idea why." We tried to cash in on our warranty and they wanted to upsell us another $1200 to replace our set to a better leather. I refuse to pay more now for what we should have received two years ago. I'm not renting my furniture and believe it to be a bad business practice to then require ANOTHER warranty on the new set since it's so "extremely rare" for something to go wrong. Glad I found this forum. WHAT A SCAM SCAM SCAM!

What do they stuff the leather with? We are seeing hair come out from the seams!

Do you have pets? Especially a dog? Their hair can get stuck in the seam, and it may have the appearance of coming out from within it.

I am compelled to post what happened with a customer today.  It seems his power motion chair quit on him.  He contacted Macys and because he took advantage of PREMIUM WORRY NO MORE, he was in today to select a replacement piece.  He was happy that he made the decision for the plan, commenting that he will get it again.

Please make sure you get the right plan for the product you are purchasing.

Yes I know the Macys product and I believe in it.
    I am a Macys employee.
