DO NOT BUY MAYTAG AND DO NOT USE A& E FACTORY SERVICE!

This is a complaint against both A&E Factory Service and Maytag (which is Whirlpool).

We purchased a microwave in April. In June the Microwave breaks. We call Whirlpool and then tell us to call their ‘preferred warranty service’ A& E. We call A& E and were told the soonest they could come out would be in 10 days. In addition, we have to be home between the hours of 8am and 5pm (not kidding about that) and if the drive called and no one answered it would be an automatic reschedule. So my husband take off of work and sits by the phone waiting.

Around 3:30 he calls A& E to see how much longer he needs to wait. They tell him we are next on the list. At 5:45pm the technician calls to tell us they would not be coming out and need to reschedule. You can imagine how happy I was to hear that. The soonest they could get us in was July 23rd. I asked to speak with the manager and after all my complaining they moved it up to the 19th. Same rules apply. Need to be at home between 8am and 5pm and you must answer the phone when they call. A& E does show on July 19th  and says he needs to order parts and would reschedule us for August 1 st .

I don’t think so!! I call A& E and get no where. They can’t do anything, they need to order parts and don’t know when they will be in. Now I call Maytag (Whirlpool) to complain regarding their ‘preferred warranty service provider’ and to see what we can do. They said they are going to put a rush on the parts, have them shipped directly to A& E and give me an extra year warranty on my microwave.

Ok, not happy, but I will settle. That was on the 19th. On the 23rd  I called Maytag to see if they had an estimated ship date of the parts. They have no record that parts were ordered (just what I wanted to hear). I speak with the supervisor and she tells me the parts are on back order and she will call me in 3-4 days to let me know one of two things. Either they will wait for the parts and repair the microwave OR they will just replace it. That day came and gone.

I called Maytag again. They tell me the parts won’t be here until August 20th and they are sending my ‘case’ to a special division to see if they can get my microwave replace. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! Here it is the 31st , no parts and still my microwave is not working. I have been without a microwave for a month now. NOT ACCEPTABLE. DO NOT BUY MAYTAG AND DO NOT USE A& E FACTORY SERVICE!!!!!!!!

Same story with my oven-purchased over a year ago-broken since day one repair has been to my house 8 times and replaced parts each time-still no oven.  That is 40 HOURS of waiting at home mid-week for the repair man.  Maytag says they are honoring my "warranty" to fix the product-still no fix-over a year-NO KIDDING-the extended my warranty but can't fix the problem-they will "keep trying" to reapair a 1400.00 oven that never worked in the first place-looking at getting a new one-NEVER MAYTAG AGAIN!!!!!  This makes me so sad-my old oven was 25 years old before it was kaput-now we are just out of luck!!!

I'm joining the bandwagon to share not only my woes but some insight that may help for future repair issues for some folks. We had our dishwasher abouth 18 months when the control board started to go.  With the laughable one year warranty expired I called to complain that a) a company as reputable as they say they are should have a longer warranty otherwise you're implying they don't trust your product to work that any longer than the warranty, and b) you should do something for loyal customers.  To Maytag's credit, they agreed to pay for the part if I paid for the labor and they put me through to A&E Factory Service.

First, know that you DO NOT have to use A&E, you can elect to use any authorized Maytag service repair company, and I HIGHLY recommend you do.  It took me no less than 15 calls to straighten out this service call and which party was responsible for paying for which "parts" before it was all said and done.  A&E came out and wanted to charge $450 to replace a $92 part that takes 15 minutes to replace (with 10 minutes for unscrewing and reattaching the door panel).  $450!?!I only paid $428 for my dishwasher when I bought it new!  How's that for ripping you off?  Good thing Maytag sent us the parts directly, so we could handle it ourselves.

We consumers as a whole have a larger problem and it isn't just Maytag, because I have similar concerns with my Whirpool appliances.  I remember when home appliances would last 20 years, and so how come we're supposed to be grateful for a 1 year warranty?  No wonder our land fills are filling up!?!  What we really need is to get Congress to get the appliance manufacturers to be responsible for building products that last and are warranted to last at least 10 years.  Now a days, I feel like picking a good manufacturer to put my money behind is like trying to pick a good presidential candidate to put my vote behind:  it's not so much about choosing the best as it is choosing from what undesirable choices I have to pick from.

First off its congress that makes these so called eco friendly laws and the manufactures have to do things in order to comply.  companies that have plants here in the states doesn't have a chance. Samsung and LG are N. Korean made and don't have to follow the same rules as our manufactures.  Bosch was the best washer and dryer on the market and had a factory in the states but couldn't compete with all the b/s so instead of making their appliances cheaper to compete they shut the plant down thanks congress for protecting our plants.  It seems they are more concern about helping companies overseas that don't have plants here then helping the ones that help out America.  Thanks Obama and Congress for breaking down America so that we can be just like the rest of the world instead of being on the cutting edge and be #1 in the world

We purchased a Maytag oven which was installed on 8/15/03. Model # MGR6775ADS. Serial # 11460319ET It is a gas range with two ovens. I bought what I thought was a high end range from a dependable company. We purchased the Maytag Dependability Plus service contract two times - current expiration date is 2/11/09. Upon using the self cleaning cycle on the stove after owning it for 3 months the handle dropped off. This was the beginning of many problems with the stove. During the last 4 years we have replaced upper and lower oven igniters, a thermostat, lower oven door spring, upper oven handle, stove top grate. Now the range cook top has short circuited and emitted flames and black smoke. When we called the service people they said that there is $125 left on the contract and that is all they will put towards the repair. They will also send us the 125.00 if we do not repair the range. We feel that the oven is of inferior quality to have all of these things go wrong in such a short time and feel that we should receive more money to help offset the price of a new stove. We expected our Maytag which cost over $1,200 to last us more than 4 1/2 years. Maytag Dependability 1 877-342 1446 contract Claim # 2470094AM0097690837. A copy of this letter has been sent to the Better Business Bureau.

I was trying to find anyone else that had both handles on their May tag refrigerator fall off.
when the service man showed up, he didn't really know how to fix the problem.  My husband explained how it should work.  It appeared that the problem was fixed.  Shortly after however, the handles still fell off in your hands.
This refrigerator was purchased at home depot in February 2007.
This refrigerator is a side by side, so there are two handles.  Both come off into your hands.
I am planning to have a service man to come out.  I guess I am facing
humiliation like I have read about.

Hey Greg! Maytag used to be synonymous with quality. Now it stands for junk. I have a Neptune washer and dryer that can be described as nothing short of crap! 4 service calls already, and the main bearings will be going out soon. The company builds garbage and they try to pass it off to consumers using the reputation that Maytag used to have. 16 months ago we purchased an over-the-counter microwave. Guess what! Yesterday the Magnatron fried! Only $200 + Labor to get my $300 microwave fixed. I will replace it with GE or something else. The experience can't be worse!

I bought a small Maytag air conditioner several years ago, 8,000 BTU. The paperwork said there was a free in-home service for five years. It began to shut down after being on for 5-10 minutes, after which it would not restart until being turned off for about 20 minutes. The warranty paper gave web (www.maytagair.com) and phone (866-MAYTAG-1). Neither work. These products used to work 10, 20 years, not two. The current Maytag website does not even list window air conditions as a product they do or did make!

I had a Maytag slide-in gas range at my last house, that gave me so much trouble, that Maytag extended the warranty an extra year.  When I moved to my new house, I was told that Whirlpool had bought Maytag, and that the ranges were more reliable, so I took a chance and bought the same range - because I still liked the way it worked.

Well, I must have been having a moment of poor judgement when I bought the new range.  Not only did the oven not work from day one, but the replacement oven that they sent also had an oven that malfunctioned and filled my house with Carbon monoxide.  Initially they said that the oven problem would "work itself out in a month or so".  Well it hasn't.  I would not buy a Maytag or Whirlpool range again.

People should know that A&E is a joint venture between Whirlpool and Sears. It was formed with the fired workforce from Whirlpool. So their "preferred" service (A&E) is actually themselves. They benefit by performing bad service and giving ridiculous estimates.

They want you to buy new appliances and since they own Maytag, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Amana, Jenn-Air, Roper, Admiral, and Kenmore; odds are pretty good you will purchasing one of their products.

Our neptune dryer electronic control panel stopped working. product is only 2 years old. only 2 users in house. I caled Maytag,(we were told piece under warrenty according to her registration info on her computer and it would cost us $70) and  they called A&E. were also told 'be home between 8-5. At 5:15 repairman showed up, hooked up his computer, he spent more time waiting to talk "to someone at A&E". He spent more time talking on personal call than on our dryer. A&E said it would cost $500+~ to fix, would have to order part (Maytag had told them what was needed). he refused to call lady at Maytag. we refused to have him reapir dryer. we called MAytag and they sent (free) part which we replaced ourselves. Wonder how many people A&E 'take'. they are a rip off and I let everyone know not to let them in to fix anything.

    No more A&E
I'm glad I found this site, and know I'm not the only one.  I have a brand new Maytag stove with a very minor problem, but still ended up with aggravation from A&E.  It had a misaligned leveling leg, which was stuck & the stove couldn't be leveled.  The company I bought the stove from set up the appt. with A&E, I waited 2 weeks, and the technician was very rude, didn't have the right parts, spent most of his time on the computer, then left me with a stove that was tilted dangerously forward & told me I could adjust the legs (I couldn't, the broken one was still broken, and he made it worse.)  I had to rig the stove myself so it wouldn't tip over & would be usable.  He did order the part, but I will not call them back to fix it, they are useless.

I totally agree with you that Maytag is CRAP!! I purchased the Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer which cost me $1800 plus tax in 2003.  I purchased the extended warranty to give me a total of 62 months on parts and labour - five months prior to the end of the warranty, the timer goes on both the washer and the dryer - oh, I forgot to mention that I am the only one in my household and use my machines once a week.  I wasn't too concerned as it was covered under warranty, however, last week, not only did the transmission go in the washer, but the motor as well - I was told by the serviceman that it would cost me $264 for the transmission, $125 for the motor, $125 to replace both parts and and additional $73 for the service call for a total of $587!!  I immediately called up Maytag, and after three phone calls, I was told that the transmission was under warranty for ten years and the motor for five so they would cover the cost of the transmission but not the motor - I was told by the service man that when the transmission goes, it puts stress on the motor, thus why should I have to pay for the motor to be replaced!  Well, after one Supervisor named Angela hung up on me, this was after repeating herself that it was not their problem, in a robotic tone, I called and asked to speak with another Supervisor to which I was transferred to Staci - she started by repeating everything that Angela had already told me but in the end, Maytag (sorry, now Whirlpool) agreed to pay for half of the motor.  All I can say is DO NOT BUY MAYTAG PRODUCTS!!!! They definitely do not have the reputation they used to and their customer service department stinks!

I bought a Maytag Range, Model #MGR5765QDW in Feb. 08 and the control pad/circuit board, has burnt out twice.  I called my appliance company that I bought it from with a 5 year warranty and they basically said, there is no gurantee that I would have better luck than them with calling Maytag because they are afraid of Maytag.  I know this stove is a lemon and want a replacement, but the applicance service company said that it is up to Maytag to authorize a replacement stove or even paying for replacement parts, even though I purchased it from them with a 5 year warranty.  Any suggestions on who to turn to next, maybe better business bureau?  I will NEVER, EVER buy another Maytag or Whirlpool product again. They wonder why people are buying foreign cars and products these days.  The american products are horrible with no accountability from these huge companies. LNG here I come for my next appliance.
