I have been going to Great Clips in Twin Oaks, Mo for many many years. I kept the same gal for about 8 yrs. and through out the last 2-3 years, she wasn't quite cutting my hair the way I liked, so I backed off from haircuts all together and gained quite a bit of length.

I recently in the beginning of May , decided after the last two times with my hairdresser, to choose someone else who I had used once in the past. This gal gave me the most disgusting haircut and I had even brought in a picture for her to work from. Now mind you, I have hair down to the middle of my back, plenty to work with and she now has the front cut so short and weird i cannot do anything with it and I cannot possibly have it blended without loosing a lot of length in my other layers to try and blend it into looking something like a real hairstyle. I went back up to see if another gal could just look at it and see what she thought and if there was anything that could be done.

I was treated so horribly and even accused of having gone back in for multiple re-cuts when there was no record of this in the computer. The manager even went so far as to say " Well, I know I've seen you back in here. I do not know why it is not here in the computer!"

Accusing me of lying and she had no proof of anything she said! This took place in front of other customers and stylists and I was treated like I was some stupid kid! i had even asked if she wanted to look at it and she said " well it looks fine to me " without even touching it!

By the time I did end up talking with another hairdresser, I was boiling inside. This gal had an equally ignorant attitude and I told them both I didn't want anyone there cutting my hair. She couldn't answer me why it was that my hair was so uneven and choppy.

I told her it's because no one is checking their work or really listening to the client. I came home and wrote to the headquarters of Great Clips, but because the are franchised, I knew it would do no good, but wanted my say. I have since asked my friends and family as well not to patronize any Great Clips salons. They have no public relations skills and the gals do not listen or check your hair after a cut. It's an assembly line. And they do not care if you have any problems at all. They act like it's you who is being the pain and they do not care if you come back or not . I will never step foot into a Great Clips ever again.

First of all, the RUDE, impatient, unrealistic, hateful clients totally suck. We as stylists get treated like total [***] from most of the customers. They dont understand that we are timed on our hair cuts, so we have between 13 and 17 min. to cut their hair. The more haircuts you do in an hour the more money you make. You get some titewad [***] that doesnt want to wait, and expects perfection. Go SOMEWHERE else if you dont like our service. We work our [***] off for a dollar tip. yay..

Stop Crying you choose this lifestyle since you could not get accepted to any good college. I as a customer give good tips when the service is good. A good converstation and haircut will equal a good tip. Regardless of the outrages prices to cut hair now.

I actually went to college FIRST before deciding to do hair, so this comment is bulls**t. People don't become hairdressers because they can't get into college, its because they are creative and have a passion for doing hair. Secondly, the price of haircuts is outrageous? That's pretty hilarious. I don't think they cost enough. I work at another salon where we charge 15. I get 45% commission so basically I get $7 and some change for a haircut. Just my 2 cents.

We are not aloud to hold good conversation. I am told only talk hair in the chair, if I dont sell product I get suspended. Yes I love doing hair. If someone doesnt like the hair cut I have done or one of the other stylist I would gladly fix it. I believe giving someone a hair cut is a connection you make with them..... But at great clips u are just a number like all the employees I hope people go back to the mom and pop shops cause if you only knew how great clips was run you would have more compassion for your stylist. God Bless

The owners of Great Clips are the real problem. The employees are pressed for time because of the volume of customers and assembly line setup. In addition the number system used would confuse a NASA rocket scientist. They are using two different numbers now for my haircut and I looked like a recruit at Marine boot camp last visit. Understandably there is also a constant employee turnover and this aggravates the situation.
If you think it is rude and unrealistic to expect a decent haircut every visit you need to have a reality check. Dam right many people are mad at Great Clips....the executives at the top rake in high profits while the employees and the customers are both ripped off. You can rest assured many customers ARE going somewhere else for their haircuts!

The assembly line setup is not the cause of my last bad haircut at Great Clips.  There was almost no wait and not many folks after me.  It was very quiet.  Now I know why.
AND I WILL INDEED GO ELSEWHERE FOR HAIRCARE.

Don't give me that "we work our [***] off" crap so does everyone else who has a job. A client goes into a hair salon to get a haircut they are going to wear in the public so yeah we expect perfection because it says it right on the websites " quality haircuts". If someone gives you a permenent bad hair day until it grows out I would be pissed to. As for tippingnot everyone tips bad if I get a good haircut and good experience I tip good.

      Ruined bangs replies to mad
Its your job to deal with customers and they expect to get what they ask for. I got my bangs cut today and I asked for them below my eyebrow and even told her that I like them long. My friend works at the same Great Clips and she has always cut my bangs to frame my face, but the girl (who is the MANAGER) cut them straight across and ABOVE MY EYEBROWS! I told the stylist that they were too short and that she completely changed the shape of my bangs when I asked for a trim. She then went on to blame ME for "not telling her what I wanted". I ended up getting the cut for free and she didn't even apologize! I sent a pic of my botched hair to my friend who works at the same great clips and she was shocked. But worst of all on my way out the door she said "Be specific the next time you get your hair cut". She needs to be fired.

I was a hairdresser and worked my way through undergrad cutting hair and then went on to law school. I went inot a great clips and I agree with the ladys post these peopel should not be licensed to cut hair in their respective states. I am now trying to change things in Ohio and want to contact the state representatives to have the board of cosemetoolgy be able to govern stylists and sanction them when they do butcher jobs. my daughter is eight and the stylist utchered her hair no ryme or reason jsut butchered it and it cant be fices without scalping the poor chidl causing embarrassment. I know that I could not get by with that in my profession and cosmetoligists shoudl not be able to either I agree that great clips is a terrible company. I always tip really well howev3er there is no excuse for a terrible haircut if that is what you do then go back to school and obtain more training with the manequin before you go back to human heads

would love a good haircut replies to mara potter
You actually went to law school and you can't spell, I found at least 12 errors in your comment. How did you pass your boards. Glad I don't need a lawyer. I had a bad haircut at Great Clips yesterday, won't be going back. I wish I knew about the timed haircuts before going, they are new to my area. I actually taught Cosmetology and wouldn't let ANY of my students cut my hair, still don't know how they passed their boards, and most were there because they weren't bright enough to go to college. I  had cut my own hair for over 25 years but can't do it anymore. I would pay top dollar for a good cut, but I've had bad cuts at high end and low end salons. My sister spent a fortune at Ulta for cut and color and was so bad I couldn't fix it, had to wait 4 months for it to even get long enough to try and fix, took several cuts before looked presentable. I felt so bad I sent an email to ULTA, theyl never even bothered to respond, I tell everyone I know what a horrible cut and color it was, so they won't go there. I think my next time will be a beauty school though, because the teachers have to check the work, at least they are being supervised.

So what you are saying is that you sacrifice giving a good haircut in order to cut hair quickly? That's total BS. I'd be rude too if someone cut my hair at the speed of light and didn't give a rats posterior on how it was cut. Great Clips employees aren't trained for crap, that's why everyone complains about their haircuts. Men, if you want a good cut, go to a BARBER. Women if you want a good cut, go to a SALON.  Stay away from these hacks that chop up as many people as possible to try and get more money. And I don't like your service, went once and did like you suggest. Went SOMEWHERE else.

All great clips cares about is that time limit and the next customer so they can make that money, not about what the customer wants. It's like when you tell them how you want your hair cut they have no clue what you're even talking about.

      Dissatisfied customer replies to mad
First of all you would think as a hairstylist when the customer tells how they want their hair to be cut or even brings pictures that the person doing the cutting would be able to give that customer exactly what they ask for. If not be honest and say you can't and ask a more experienced person to do it. Don't just cut a bunch of layers and then blend it to make it look like you actually know what you are doing and that has happened to me several times. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for sometimes.
