I have been going to Great Clips in Twin Oaks, Mo for many many years. I kept the same gal for about 8 yrs. and through out the last 2-3 years, she wasn't quite cutting my hair the way I liked, so I backed off from haircuts all together and gained quite a bit of length.

I recently in the beginning of May , decided after the last two times with my hairdresser, to choose someone else who I had used once in the past. This gal gave me the most disgusting haircut and I had even brought in a picture for her to work from. Now mind you, I have hair down to the middle of my back, plenty to work with and she now has the front cut so short and weird i cannot do anything with it and I cannot possibly have it blended without loosing a lot of length in my other layers to try and blend it into looking something like a real hairstyle. I went back up to see if another gal could just look at it and see what she thought and if there was anything that could be done.

I was treated so horribly and even accused of having gone back in for multiple re-cuts when there was no record of this in the computer. The manager even went so far as to say " Well, I know I've seen you back in here. I do not know why it is not here in the computer!"

Accusing me of lying and she had no proof of anything she said! This took place in front of other customers and stylists and I was treated like I was some stupid kid! i had even asked if she wanted to look at it and she said " well it looks fine to me " without even touching it!

By the time I did end up talking with another hairdresser, I was boiling inside. This gal had an equally ignorant attitude and I told them both I didn't want anyone there cutting my hair. She couldn't answer me why it was that my hair was so uneven and choppy.

I told her it's because no one is checking their work or really listening to the client. I came home and wrote to the headquarters of Great Clips, but because the are franchised, I knew it would do no good, but wanted my say. I have since asked my friends and family as well not to patronize any Great Clips salons. They have no public relations skills and the gals do not listen or check your hair after a cut. It's an assembly line. And they do not care if you have any problems at all. They act like it's you who is being the pain and they do not care if you come back or not . I will never step foot into a Great Clips ever again.

I just worked at a Great Clips for a few days. I agree with everything you have put in your posts. I only applied there because I will be moving to a new area and Great Clips had a add for a stylist and you did not need a following. Moving to a new area my clients won't be able to follow me so I decided to keep a open mind and give Great Clips a try. I've been a stylist for 25 years and I've never been treated so badly. All I ask all you wonderful clients out there is when you go to a salon, please make sure it is owned by a valid Hairstylist who holds a beauty license. Most likely you guys don't know but they will let anyone open a salon, anyone. Then all that person has to do is find any hairstylist who has held a valid license for 2 years and let them run it. They may not of worked as a stylist in those 2 years but they have the license. Any chain salon or franchise are likely to be run this way, but not always. It is beginning to hurt the hard working stylist like myself who invest in our careers and like myself take classes with the leaders in the industry so we can offer our best. I  will be taking yet another class by Paul Mitchell in a few weeks. When we lose our clients to places like Great Clips that equivalent to a pay cut. Lost clients, lost money. So please support salons owned by valid licensed hairstylists and don't be afraid to ask if they do continuing education. If you guys support us then we should give you our best. Thanks for your patronage it's always been appreciated. Us stylist love our clients!!!!! Please pass this on to all you can.

    Stacy,

You are correct in your analogy of how corporate treats the stylist. As a former Great Clips Stylist and manager, I too have seen that intimidation and fear from superiors to their subordinates which does not net desired results, this is a fact in any occupation. I too know, a computer is not 100% accurate in the generating the entire picture of what a haircut or perm entails. I’m currently a full time student at E.O.U. (Eastern Oregon University) completing my degree in business management. One of my current classes I'm taking is Managerial Accounting. I am using my experience with Great Clips as an example of how much time, quality, and revenue is wasted due to the fact that Corporate does not adequately train, nor give motivation for a stylist to succeed. Bottom line, if corporations put a little extra time and money into their employees, the rewards will be reaped by all.

I had the worst haircut in my life, and this was the manager of the salon at 20th street and highland in Phoenix.  A man's haircut has more hair in the back neckline than I do after that lousy cut.    I even showed a picture from the Professional Hair Catalog and she had it layed out so she can see it.  All she did was yack, yack, yack and ultimately was not able to concentrate on a proper cut, that deserves any payment of any sort.   I now feel so badly about being seen in public that I have to go and purchase a wig to cover up the lousy haircut.   I feel I should be compensated for the lousy job and the cost of a new wig.  The nape of the of hair is not even 1/2 inch long.  How could Mr Mike DiCarlo, hire such lousy hair stylist and appoint her as a manager.    Also, the last visit she talked me into purchasing the Joico hair shampoo conditioning set.   It smells so bad that I would not shampoo a dog with it.   It cost me $19.95. which was money wasted.  No more "LOUSY CLIPS" for me.

perhaps Great Clips is fine if you just want a basic trim, but if you want t total hair make over. Then go someplace else

I have a military style cut, the three Great Clips I have been to in Tampa have not been able to handle the cut, I swear it.  1 on the sides and back, 4 on top, please blend it in.  It's always uneven and they are totally unable to blend.  My hair goes form 1 to 4 just above the ear on one side with absolutely no blending, and 1 to 4 on the other side about halfway in between my ear and the crown of my head, again with no blending.  I haven't seen the back, I'm actually scared to at this point.

I just have to say that I only go to great clips to get my hair cut. I am one of those people that only gets their haircut once every 3 or 4 months (no scalp conditions as stated above though, lol). Anyway, I sympathize with the employees there, having to simplify a haircut down to 14 minutes is unreasonable. I only get a trim, one length, straight across the bottom though. I have been going to one location for years and noticed an extreme turnover rate among employees. I have also noticed that they ARE pushing product, and not honoring their own advertised special. When a haircut says 6.99, then it is 6.99, period. I understand you get what you pay for, and I think that I do. I just think that they should honor their own price point and sales. I am glad I found this complaint forum to vent on, as that is what it is for.

I recently dropped off my exchange student at a great clips that we have visited previously many times in our family. It was prior to 6 pm because we looked at the clock and hours of operation. I left to go across to a family dollar. It was 610 when I received a text that they woulnt cut his hair. They say it was after 6 by their computer. Which is probaly set ahead to allow for time to close. As a parent I was upset 1ST of all they couldn't give him a 10 min haircut? Or maybe that they sent him outside to wait for me and locked him out???  What happened to customer service??? Well you get what u pay for. There are a few girls there that were very nice and I will miss them, but their manager is not in the best intrest of the customer. Good luck great clips and start sending out those discount coupons and oh yea. Calling at night for repeat business.  Your gonna need it.

I think it is VERY rude that you would even think to drop someone off right before a salon closes. I get so mad when people do this because usually I have been working for ten hours straight with no break and then people expect me to stay 10-15 mins after close to cut their hair. What you do not realize is that after we get done cutting everyones hair we still have to clean the WHOLE salon pack our stuff up and close the drawer which can take up to 30-45 mins so we really don't want to stay to do one more haircut!!! And not to mention it's not even worth it for a crappy tip of $1-3 so don't be so rude next time!!

It is not impossible to clean the salon all day while doing cuts, and if more than one employee is there, one can be cleaning up while the other cuts the last customer's hair, leaving only the closing of the cash register.

I find your attitude to be atrocious.  You work in a service industry, for a corporation, a corporation that sells hair cuts.  Your tip is $1-$3, but that's the pay schedule you agreed to work on when you chose that career.  Further, the corporation employs you there with the understanding that you will cut customer's hair when they come for a hair cut.  The place closes at 6, you should be servicing customer's until 6.  I own a law firm, client's sometimes come in at 4:55, and occasionally the Judge makes us appear in court on Saturday or Sunday, and often earlier than our normal start hours and beyond normal quitting time.  You see, it's a service position, the money comes from servicing customers.

If I owned a hair salon I would fire you if I learned of this attitude toward my business and your customers.

It actually just occurred to me that the bank I go to stays open an extra 15 minutes beyond the posted closing time on Friday to accommodate all their customers.  Guess what, they have to clean the bank and sort out the cash at the end of the day.  However, their dedication to their customers makes them a desirable place to do business.

My recommendation to you, change your attitude or let someone else have your job.  Trust me, there are thousands and thousands of people who would be happy to start a 10 minute haircut at 5:50 despite closing at 6 to earn an extra $3-$5, as I have said.  You should be cleaning as you go all day long.  You absolutely do not deserve your job with that attitude.

I actually work at a great clips and I have alot of regulars and I have never been rude to a customer and have NEVER messed anyones haircuts up. All the people I cut love my cuts and styles that I give them. And all these people saying that you only get $1 for a tip your wrong if you just took your time like me and did the haircut right you would get more tip money. I usually get at least $5 to $10 per customer. So that just shows you not all of us great clips employees are lazy, rude, awful hairstylist it just pisses me off that people think that because they will hire some AWFUl hairstylist and they ruin the reputation for all of us good stylist!
