I have been going to Great Clips in Twin Oaks, Mo for many many years. I kept the same gal for about 8 yrs. and through out the last 2-3 years, she wasn't quite cutting my hair the way I liked, so I backed off from haircuts all together and gained quite a bit of length.

I recently in the beginning of May , decided after the last two times with my hairdresser, to choose someone else who I had used once in the past. This gal gave me the most disgusting haircut and I had even brought in a picture for her to work from. Now mind you, I have hair down to the middle of my back, plenty to work with and she now has the front cut so short and weird i cannot do anything with it and I cannot possibly have it blended without loosing a lot of length in my other layers to try and blend it into looking something like a real hairstyle. I went back up to see if another gal could just look at it and see what she thought and if there was anything that could be done.

I was treated so horribly and even accused of having gone back in for multiple re-cuts when there was no record of this in the computer. The manager even went so far as to say " Well, I know I've seen you back in here. I do not know why it is not here in the computer!"

Accusing me of lying and she had no proof of anything she said! This took place in front of other customers and stylists and I was treated like I was some stupid kid! i had even asked if she wanted to look at it and she said " well it looks fine to me " without even touching it!

By the time I did end up talking with another hairdresser, I was boiling inside. This gal had an equally ignorant attitude and I told them both I didn't want anyone there cutting my hair. She couldn't answer me why it was that my hair was so uneven and choppy.

I told her it's because no one is checking their work or really listening to the client. I came home and wrote to the headquarters of Great Clips, but because the are franchised, I knew it would do no good, but wanted my say. I have since asked my friends and family as well not to patronize any Great Clips salons. They have no public relations skills and the gals do not listen or check your hair after a cut. It's an assembly line. And they do not care if you have any problems at all. They act like it's you who is being the pain and they do not care if you come back or not . I will never step foot into a Great Clips ever again.

franchisee's like any other company's should treat their worker's with appreciation. give incentives or reward's. weather the styist is productive or not meeting the required preductivity.. money is always a good incentive. let's not forget where the money starts. i've been working for gc's for 10 years and not a thank you or recognition or rewards for the work i do..i always make productivity, my numbers are always high, customer counts high, and when we make record week, we are rewarded with 10.00 each to 7 stylist..WTH

i have been an employee of gc's for 10 years and yes you all are absolutly  correct. we have to do all that in 13 to 17 minute time frame.for 7 to 8 hours a day. i'm exusted by the end of the day..we are expected too much. yes i agree it is an assembly line. i am a 13 minute cutter and have been cutting hair for 27 years. i love cutting hair. and i will be leaving gc's cuz i have had it with them. i always make productivity and my numbers are consisting weekly.but do not get any recognition or rewards of any kind. they did away with our incentive's and work for our wage...and tips..i will be leaving soon..thanks gc's for helping me get close to my customers they are leaving with me....

WOW! I was contemplating going to Great Clips this weekend, but after reading just the first page alone, I think I have decided to go back to the woman who's been cutting my hair, although it's been quite a while (16 months, to be exact) since I've had a cut/trim. She doesn't do the best job, but at least I know how she cuts my hair! I guess I'd much rather go to someone that I've been going to since '05 than to risk it. The price difference would be worth it. I did not realize that the "stylists" at GC's have a TIME LIMIT per customer!!! How INSANE is THAT???? Maybe GC's needs to be on "Undercover Boss"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been working for Great Clips 3 yrs now, and have been a stylist for 8. My reason for being there is stability. In times like these, lots of people can't afford a $40, but they can afford a $13 one. Yes, we are timed; however, its enough time to give a great cut. Your just not shampooing or fixing it (this is were the other time comes into play at a full service). I always give a great cut, and strive for that because my name is on that cut that people may ask about.
Now, as a employee, I haven't (or any of us) received a raise of any kind in my 3 yrs. Which makes u feel bad when u work hard and do well. I am not offered any benefits of any sort, we are not aloud to be sick & call in, we can not get set schedules, not able to receive days off that we request, no breaks at all, standing 9+ hrs straight, and are expected to stay as late as they want after your shift ends. Well, is it my fault for being treated this way? Yes. Because I still stay there. Now why do I stay? Because I'm a single mother who knows that I can provide for my child on this income and things are too risky anywhere else. There are some really nice clients that come through our door, but some nasty ones too. Some have bad attitudes when they walk in, some smell, some have boogers behind their ears, yes...boogers. some have acne so bad that your afraid it will POP & squirt in your face, some think asking u to cut their nose hairs is normal, and so forth. Do I hope for good tips....yes cause I always tip well. Until u work for tips u have no clue. I can't wait for new beginnings. As I am back in school furthering my education looking for stability and satisfaction. But do not label all great clips hair dressers, as we are not all bad. Thanks.

i totally agree. i personally find myself to be an excellent stylist. but great clips just isn't able to treat their stylists with dignity. and the time is outrageous.

Great Clips treat hairstylists like dogs.  They mental abuse you, use you and then they fired you.  It doesn't matter if you are the greatest hairstylist cause they don't care if you have feelings or not.  Been there done that. I feel sorry for all hairstylists. (God bless you all)

Great clips really does. suck like [***]. I walk in there with 14 inches of hair and dyed blue streaks and walk   out of there with a damn 5 inches (ABOVE MY SHOULDERS) and no blue streaks. WTF! Everyone at my high school said i looked like Dora with crappy extensions. I paid $5 extra for unwanted dye removal that i didn't even ask for! I hope great clips runs hell.

    Haha
First off you have to go to school for at least 1-2 years and take to tests to get your license. Second all the Gc I've worked for treat their stylist like a peace of [***] and bend over backwards to lick the costumes ass so I'm sorry you all haven gone to the wrong great clips where you are treated badly. We are expected to do a hair cut in less then 10 minutes and sell product to every customer I actually got fired for not selling enough shampoo as did others I know. We work for minimum wage and get a dime raise if we are lucky. We also do not get paid vacation, overtime, holiday pay, sick days, or any insurance we work here because we love doing hair so the people who have been cutting your hair and screwing up do not like their job and most likely are just out of school or just don't care but they will probably be just as bad I'd they work somewhere else!

I have worked for Great Clips for 3 years now (manager) and it has its ups and downs like any company. Yes the "idea" of Great Clips is great! Comfort,Freedom, and Connection! We want you to not have to make an appointment and can get a great haircut in AROUND 15 minutes. Obviously it is going to take longer for a more precise haircut and you know what, I dont rush myself because my name is on that haircut and I want it to look great. I work at Great Clips because I dont have to go out and build my clientele, they come to me. I have built up my own clientele there that asks for me by name and let me tell you most of mine tip me $5-10 on a $15 haircut. Even customers that are not my "regulars" still get a great cut from me because I genuinely love what I do. Some days I might not be a "chatty Kathy" but I like to think that customers think I am concentrating on the cut more. Basically what I am getting at is that it is really disappointing when you get $1 or no tip at all. I make an hourly rate and I rely on my tips to eat or pay bills just like anyone else. It sucks when people dont appreciate your work that you are putting in. Not everyone that works at Great Clips is great, I will be the first to admit I have seen some horrid haircuts, but there are some that are and if you get a good service you should tip us well because we like to feel appreciated.  :)
Please dont write off Great Clips forever everyone. There are great stylists that work at them...just open your eyes a little.

OMG!  My hair is ruined by Great Clips stylist!  I said take off only an inch and a half, and long layers, and that all of my hair must still be long enough to get put up into a hair rubber band.  I have wavy/curly hair and I now have the left side only 4 inches long on top!  The right side a different length and the front right side the girl missed all-together!  It is still my original length!  What goes through these sylists's minds?  Do they even listen to the customers, and just do what they want to?  I go home with wet hair, it drys, I look in the mirror in horror!   Supposedly there is a file on record which tells whoever works on me, how to do my hair? She was very nice, took extra time, as I requested, but the results are like my head was put down my insinkerator!  Can I get my money & tip back?

I went to great clips this morning to get a hair cut, had to walk out, only had one person at the register checking out, two women employees standing their They would not stop talking, about who was going to be president, and other silly stuff, I waited 10 minutes, I was the only customer. And don't plan on going back.

I have worked for Great Clips for over 2 years and let me say the franchisee is everything!! The first owner(s) I worked for (Shives franchise,Cincinnati OH) were cheap as can be...raise? HA. Vacation? They'll screw you out of getting it. They also expected inhuman work for minimum wage. Unfortunately its hard to be as kind and professional to INNOCENT clients when you're being treated like dogshit by your employer. After awhile I wised up and lefty and work is 1000000000 times nicer when you have a kind and respectful boss. But long story short, don't be rude to the customers. They have no idea that your franchisee expects slave labor, they just want a decent haircut and a friendly chat. Remember, when you go somewhere and spend YOUR hard earned money, don't you expect to be treated politely and get a satisfactory service?

I feel as raped as you do. It is like rape!!  They treat . You like shot then 3 people quit and they expect you to cover!! If they had good management in the first place stylists would stay right?  It is not impossible to find a good mAnager  but they turn the good ones into bad ones with this get your haircut done perfectly in 12 minutes OR WE WILL REPLACE YOU!!  Nothin like hoping you can keep your job even if you are honestly trying your hardest.... I . Suggest working for someone who occasionally says GREAT JOB!!
