I have been going to Great Clips in Twin Oaks, Mo for many many years. I kept the same gal for about 8 yrs. and through out the last 2-3 years, she wasn't quite cutting my hair the way I liked, so I backed off from haircuts all together and gained quite a bit of length.

I recently in the beginning of May , decided after the last two times with my hairdresser, to choose someone else who I had used once in the past. This gal gave me the most disgusting haircut and I had even brought in a picture for her to work from. Now mind you, I have hair down to the middle of my back, plenty to work with and she now has the front cut so short and weird i cannot do anything with it and I cannot possibly have it blended without loosing a lot of length in my other layers to try and blend it into looking something like a real hairstyle. I went back up to see if another gal could just look at it and see what she thought and if there was anything that could be done.

I was treated so horribly and even accused of having gone back in for multiple re-cuts when there was no record of this in the computer. The manager even went so far as to say " Well, I know I've seen you back in here. I do not know why it is not here in the computer!"

Accusing me of lying and she had no proof of anything she said! This took place in front of other customers and stylists and I was treated like I was some stupid kid! i had even asked if she wanted to look at it and she said " well it looks fine to me " without even touching it!

By the time I did end up talking with another hairdresser, I was boiling inside. This gal had an equally ignorant attitude and I told them both I didn't want anyone there cutting my hair. She couldn't answer me why it was that my hair was so uneven and choppy.

I told her it's because no one is checking their work or really listening to the client. I came home and wrote to the headquarters of Great Clips, but because the are franchised, I knew it would do no good, but wanted my say. I have since asked my friends and family as well not to patronize any Great Clips salons. They have no public relations skills and the gals do not listen or check your hair after a cut. It's an assembly line. And they do not care if you have any problems at all. They act like it's you who is being the pain and they do not care if you come back or not . I will never step foot into a Great Clips ever again.

i work at a great clips salon and i have been with the company for 11 yrs. you can get a bad haircut anywhere at any time. it depends on the stylist. not all of us give bad haircuts and not all of us are rude. yes, they do want you to be able to give a haircut in 13-18 minutes however you dont get fired or bit**ed at if you go over that. for your information there are cuts that take longer than 18 min. to do. this is based on an average. we offer 6.99 for the customers benefit not ours. we are paid by the hour and we are not robots we are human the same as everyone else trying to make a living and do what we enjoy doing. if you dont like us then stay away. no need in putting down every stylist who works for the company. their is a bad seed in EVERY business. it doesnt make us all bad. the group of girls at our salon listen to what the customer wants and we try hard to please. but its not always easy dealing with dumba** people like many of you are. so its okay that u dont like us at great clips but you are probably not liked where you work at either. have a nice day!

it amazes me at the stupid people out there. yes i have seen some chop jobs done from great clips, smart styles, sams and yes even the salons that charge you 30 dollars. it is not the salon that you get a bad haircut from it is the stylist. there are bad stylist everywhere not just great clips. i have been an employee for great clips for many years and we have a great group of stylist. not all stylist at great clips are bad or rush through haircuts. some cuts take 10 min and some take 20. we are a walk in salon and sometimes there is a wait. hell we do the best we can. you idoits want to fuss about having to wait but then fuss because you get a  13 minute haircut. what do you people want from us?? we work our a** off and get no respect. we are talked to like a dog and i most say that is the dumbest thing you can do when you are getting your haircut. dont question us if we know how to do a fade.......come on really. do you question if a mechanic knows how to change your oil? most of us will tell you if we are not comfortable doing a certain haircut. i know the salon i work in we will be the first to tell you that someone else will cut your hair if we are not comfortable with it. for those of you who are past employees and dont like the company im sorry that you had a bad manager or bad franchisee. we have a great one. we take breaks when we need them we get time off request when we want them and we take weekends off as well. i have worked for bad managers and franschisees before but not all are bad. i have been with the same shop for 8 yrs and couldnt ask for a better manager or franchisee. they are the best.

    jagged hair
I went to Great Clips last week in Trenton, Ohio.  I asked for about a 1/2 inch trim all over ( my hair on top was every bit of 5 inches long) and by the time she was done, I was ashamed to walk in front of people to pay for this mess.  My hair on top was almost sticking straight up, and I could hardly get it on a curling iron.  She had me turned around in the chair where I didn't see how she was cutting.  Oh well, you live and learn.  GO TO A REAL SALON NEXT TIME!

Actually if your haircut takes longer than 20min yes you do get in trouble. 13-17 is all you have to do a consultation, cut, and sell products.  The employees get treated like sh**!  Unhappy employees equal unhappy clients. Thats why they have such a high turnover rate.  Great clip pimps their stylist.  You could make so much more in a comission salon.  Just look at how much money you make them on a daily print out compared to your check. Imagine if you got a percentage of that money 50 or 40percent.  where is your self worth? If you left great clips and took your so called clients with you, I bet you would make 1000 plus a week

Sorry that you worked for such a buzzkill of a franchise. At our store, and within our franchise, we don't get in trouble for going over 15, 16, or 17 minutes. And we don't get in trouble for not selling retail. We get coached on how to better ourselves, but not documented! We also get pay raises every 90 days. Our pay is actually pretty awesome. I've worked for corporate, I've worked in booth rental etc. I've made more $ working at great clips than I have anywhere. And I get treated better at GCthan I have anywhere else.

To all the people who go to greats clips to get their haircut, yes time is everything.  im not saying you cant get a good cut but the pictures you see in magazines take those stylist at least 30 min to perfect.  We have half that time. Plus, we know you are gonna tip more than 2.oo dollars.  How hard would you work for 2.oo dollars? We dont see a pretty penny of that money we put in the register.

I have been going to Great Clips for a couple of years, mainly because I don't need to make an appointment.  I never have figured out what a reasonable tip is.  The 10-15 percent rule shouldn't apply on a discounted price.  I know there is a lack of uniformity among the stylists at Great Clips.  Some tend to be "heavy handed" or too fast with the comb when it is hitting me on the ears.  I uniformly give a $3 tip, but I should be more discretionary and tip more or less, depending on my personal satisfaction.  Any help out there?

i work at great clips, and see how people tip. i agree whole heartly that the tip reflects your satisfaction. if you are happy with your haircut AND service tip whatever you want. but if they give you a crappy haircut or even crappy service, dont feel bad to not tip them. yes they will be mad, but whatever, they know that it is ALL ABOUT THE CUSTOMER. and at our great clips, that is never done.

    Average Working Person
I have read all of your stories, and I just have to say that I have been to many different Great Clip Salons in Middle Tennessee, and I have NEVER received a bad haircut or bad customer service. They always cut my hair the way I want it,and will take the time to do what I ask.I am an average, working woman who doesn't have the luxury of paying $30.00-$40.00 a haircut. If you want to look like you came out of a Beverly Hills salon, then you should go to a high-end place and pay for it.Don't [***] because the stylist couldn't make you look like Jennifer Anniston,or whatever superstar you're trying to impersonate,I doubt even the glam salons in Hollywood could do that for you.Great Clips is for people like me that want a good haircut without paying a day's pay for it.I do feel sorry for the stylists who don't get paid enough to put up with all your [***] though. And no,I don't work for Great Clips,I work in the Healthcare field so I also know what it is like to work hard, deal with stupid people's [***],and don't get paid nearly enough for it..

I agree, Great Clips is EVIL. The location in Everett, WA by Albertsons on 132nd has to worst service ever. The check out staff very rudly says how much tip will you leave when you go to get a haircut (This is BEFORE the haircut). The oriental ladies that work at this location make it so I will NEVER go back to ANY Great Clips because it is clear that the corporation puts up with this service.

    Horrified!
I just met the most rude loud mouth hairdresser ever! I'm a 65 year old female and in my lifetime I have never met anyone that treated customers so badly.  This was my second time into Great Clips at Caladesi Shopping Center in Dunedin, FL.  My first experience was with a hairdresser that never stopped talking about her baby and her boyfriend - she was so into herself and didn't pay any attention as to the style of my cut.  I left with my hair cut tight to the scalp on the left and right side of my head.
After three months my undesirable haircut was just growing out at the sides and the hair around my face and back of my neck was in need of a cut.
Since Great Clips is one block from my home I decided to give it a second chance, although I would request a different hairdresser (as it turned out
she was no longer working there).  I waited thirty minutes for my turn, and explained that I only wanted the hair around my face and back of my neck cut.  The hairdresser said she is a perfectionist and she would balance my hair.  Again I said I didn't want the top of my head, or the left and right sides of my head, or the top back of my hair cut, just around the face and the back of my neck.  She started to cut the top of my head and I said I do not want you to cut that part of my hair.  She held up the hair and said she would just take a quarter inch off.  I'm thinking what part of "do not cut" don't you understand? All this while she was very loud and disrespectful to me in front of all the customers.  She said to me "I will not have you dictate how I cut hair, this is my job, I manage this store!".  I said "this is my hair!".  When she finished cutting my hair the way she wanted, she gave me a mirror.  I told her (for the third time) that the hair aound my face is too long.  She replied in a sarcastic tone "so you don't want your hair balanced".  Amazing! As for the "time allowed" to cut hair (I wasn't aware of this until I read the complaints against Great Clips) my cut could have been done in three minutes if she had listened and cared about what I (the customer) wanted.
At this point all I wanted was out of there - I was totally horrified at
her behavior.  While at the register she held me up even longer by having me wait while she typed her comments into the computer.  As for tipping, I
tip very well, however, the amount I tip is based on the haircut and the respect I'm shown.  In Karrie's case, I gave her zero for a tip - and hope that she gets the intention.  As I was walking out the door, she was still yelping (I felt sorry for the next poor sap, and hoped that they had the
sense to get up and leave) and as I was about five steps out the door she
was still screaming - "have a good day - it could be worse!"  Finally, I went home and trimmed the long hairs on the back of my neck (whispy they call it) and shortened the hair around the sides of my face.  Will I go back?  Absolutely not!

Great Clips has got to be the worst run with haircutters that couldn't make it elswhere.   They are nast, arrogant, totally inefficient and just unhappy.  The store has room for about 12 cutters but there are never more than 3 at any one time.

I would feel more comfortable going to a just opened barber school than this worst run franchise...........Ken

First of all everyone...customers and stylists..I worked for a Great Clips in Myrtle as a manager for well over a year and was employed with the company for almost a total of two.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad hairdressers out there in Great Clips, but in full service as well. I had a fantastic crew who worked their butts off for the most part. We are timed for our cuts and DO have to push the products to KEEP our jobs within this franchise...

We as managers were told to keep on top of the stylists to get the cut done in their time frame and to push them to stay at a certain percentage with the products sales. Most of the stuff I have read on here is true.

I also know that all stylists, no matter who they work for or if they work for themselves have a bad cutting day or time at least once or twice in their lives..If they say otherwise they are lying...That would be saying that they are perfect in all they do and that is just not the case...

I have encountered many good customers and many bad customers at Great Clips. I have also owned my own business and the same applies. I left my franchise because the owner of the company did not stand up for my rights when my GM went through my purse looking at my medication while I was cutting hair on the floor.

I would not suggest to anyone to work for Great Clips within this franchise nor would I suggest customers going there as well if you knew what we are put through to make the money for the company. That is not to say that you would not get a great cut, but if you want time taken and a positive attitude, go to a full service salon.

its awesome. I'm an employee and I feel if you have been properly trained 13-17 minutes should be a good haircut stateboard only gives you 30 and thats fresh out of school with so many clients you would expect to exceed you're old time right? Maybe not a life time kind of place but really good for people needing to gain speed and more advanved skills. as for the customers, it depends on soley on the stylist how you are treated because i love all of mine.
