TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

We are experiencing all of the same problems, torn clothes, socks in the drain filter and even socks getting stuck in the soap line that causes a cascade of water to come out of the front of the machine. Has any one gotten any info from whirlpool of a solution? We bought out machine in 2010 and we are having problems at least once a month.

The bearing that holds the tubs is failing. As it fails, the tubs are getting out of alignment. That is causing the clothes to get caught in between the tubs and in the seals.

I too have had my clothes ripped  to shreds by the duet washing machine I purchase in January 2011.  I had to replace the seal within the first 6 months of having the machine after it ripped a $400 pair of washable slacks that were washed alone on the "delicate cycle".    Six months ago I was told there was a hole in the drum and that I have to have it replaced, the drum has a lifetime warranty but the labor is $435 to put it in.
Well today Jan 11, 2013, the machine broke again with 5 different error codes flashing.   I cant waste any mor money on repair calls, so I am going to buy a new machine.       I must have lost about $2000 worth of clothing that has been shredded or had holes as a result of the washer.
Whirlpool needs to do a recall, I wish I had time for organizing a class action suit against them.   I tried calling them but they are like robots and dont care about the significant problems with this machine.

I would like my money back, sent a A&E service tech out to replace the rubber seal with the same type of faulty rubber seal it had in it.

I want my money back for both the washer and dryer and give $500 for my clothing.
    Very poor design.

Have a duet washer and dryer, 1 year old now and I am now finding holes and tears in our clothing, first time is when we had family up over the holidays and there was a hole in the shirt. Then a few more clothes now I get on here thinking it's my dryer and I see that it's probably the washer. Very disappointed especially since it seems the problems are not resolved .

This machine is total junk. Do not buy  a Whirlpool Duet Washer, it has trashed over 800 dollars worth of my family's clothes. The rubber ring has ripped and had to be replaced once and we have had a technician out 2 times to address our clothes being ripped and shredded.

We have been having the same issue. We purchased the extended warranty. Just had a repairmen out who emptied the pump of change from my husband's laundry and admonished me to always check for change and other things in pockets before laundering.  To which I informed him that my husband does his own laundry and my change is where it belongs... in my wallet. He also replaced the gasket that seems to eat everything. I too have lost close to $2,000  worth of clothing, sheets, jeans, coats and so on. Just lost my favorite jacket and my husband lost another work shirt and jacket just this week. I was unsure until I came here what the problem was. We paid well over a thousand dollars for the matching washer and dryer on 4/29/10. At first I loved them, but now I dread doing laundry because I know that at least one thing will be lost. My expensive jersey sheets constantly have holes, which I have patched, and patched and patched some more. They are no longer comfortable to sleep on. This is ridiculous. As someone else pointed out, this is an obvious design flaw and there should be a mandatory recall, with new, efficient,  and free replacements. I am going to start documenting all tears in all laundry, with pictures, dates, times, etc. Expect a lot of info coming from me and possible contact from our lawyer. You should be ashamed to put your name on these washers. I used to love Whirlpool.

Band together people. I will be making a complaint with the BBB and contacting my lawyer, using the examples here and any other I can find on the net. They do not want the kind of storm we can create for what is obviously their fault. They ignore what we are telling them and just do a patch job hoping we are too dumb to know we have the power to do something about this. Take pictures, write down dates of tears. List all repairs made. They will HAVE to fix this!

      Becky,

Letme know what is going on with your info. I am tired of my clothes being torn. My family has lost hundreds of dollars of clothes and some are my police uniforms which are far from cheap. If you don't start the class action then I will for sure. Please contact me ASAP at mbenn80@yahoo.com.

I will also mention that after my wife contacted whirlpool all they said was that we would have to pay 300 dollars to have someone come out to "fix" the issue.

I was absolutely amazed when I saw clothing comeing out of our washing machine with holes all over the place.  The machine is but 3 years old -- my last machine lasted over 10 years and was replaced to take advantage of energystar, etc.

I've lost clothing, towel, bedding to the point of no return.  Whirlpool obviously doesn't care about its reputation in the marketplace and isn't afraid of yet another legal battle - do I see class action written all over the place here?  I've lost thousands of dollars of clothes, and my husband was down to about 3 pair of underwear.  This is just the beginning.  I've had a prelim discussion with legal counsel that may have interest in moving forward.

Tell me - would you go to work wearing the clothes that come out of these machines?  Knowing that Whirlpool and Maytag are the same company, I suggest staying away from Maytag, too.  My appliance repairman stated that it would cost as much as a new machine to attempt the repair.  I suggest you contact the Attorney General in your state as well as the BBB.

When my washer was repaired by the manufacturing warranty service, a&e I asked if this HOLE and tearing of clothes was a common problem with my machine, he said no.  The technician service that  came under my extended warranty for my duet washer, said  a lot of people has the same problem.  This repair man ordered the new interior glass door  redesign because of this issue with clothes tearing.  That was November. I've been washing clothes on all cycles and nothing has gotten caught so far.  When the the laundry goes into spin cycle, the clothes stays in the tub instead of the gliding along the door and seal.  The only problem now is that when i resumed washing after getting my machine fixed, the machine is grinding and getting louder, guess this happened after clothes got stuck.  I'll be calling to get this fixed soon  and hopefully be the ends of all things wrong with the machine.  I did read a post from whirlpool about doing smaller loads. when i called whirlpool for warrenty work she suggested doing small loads too. Hmmm.... I bought a 4.o  h.e. king size washer so i can wash clothes for a family of four-teenagers/parents.  If i do small loads, I'll have to do MORE loads which means that this washer is not energy efficient and maybe there is some class action lawsuit  because of misrepresentation of the actual size capacity of the machine.

---ask for the new interior glass door. It is round instead of slanted.

    continues from above
I.should have add....no more holes after the new glass  door
