TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

Our townhouse is relatively new and so are the Whirlpool washing machone and dryer.  To our surprise, clothes are being torn.  This is definitely a product defect.  I called Whirlpool to report the problem and I was told that they will send someone to assess the problem for $80 !$?  I even asked customer service if there have already been other calls of the same issue.  And the response was none.  What a lie!  Why would they even send someone to check or assess the problem when people have already been complaining about the priduct.  I agree that they should recall the product and change our machines.

Another problem of the washing machine is the error code A10.  During the washing cycle, it stops before the spinning part.  And I have seen a lot of customers complaining about this problem as well.  The more Whirlpool should replace our washing machines.

What should we do for Whirlpool to listen to us and do something about this???

Unbelievable how many of us are having the same problem with this washing machine.  Seems like it is time for a class action suite to get Whirlpool's attention.  I am so tired of this machine destroying clothes.

We are getting ripped clothes as well. Replaced 8 year old machine with this one and it is awful. It was good for awhile, but has been ripping clothes for the last few months.

    Hi Melanie
We are experiencing the same this as all the posts above. Rips and holes in clothing. We found articles in the drain pump as well. We bought the Whirlpool set 2 years ago and we are not satisfied at all. If you could get back to us about this please. I am sharing this with many people and telling them not to purchase this brand name. We would appreciate something be done about this.

Hello All, My front load whirpool washer is less than 4 months old and I too am getting holes and tears in clothing. I called the service department and they stated that they need to replace the glass in door to fix the issue. I am awaiting this repair to see if this fixes the problem. I too agree that if this is a known issue, why wasn't this product recalled. Wish i had read these reviews before purchasing it.

Yup, holes in clothes here too. Lots and lots of holes. I have one of the earliest models, bought in 2007, and I was hoping the problem had gone away for the rest of you as maybe the company figured out its issues. Sounds like NO. I've had hundreds of dollars of clothes ripped and torn in this machine. The holes sometimes have black streaks on them, and are often in a pattern (like it's getting wrapped around something inside the machine?)  I have tried half-full loads and that does seem to help somewhat but not 100%. And anyways, then I'm doing laundry in these tiny cycles and that is not super-helpful to a big family! The most likely clothes to be ripped are soft knits like t-shirts and workout clothes (NOT CHEAP to replace either!)

For a while I was getting socks and underwear stuck inside the drain holes too, but the repairman showed us how to take the machine apart and fix this issue. So it still happens but I know how to fix it. The holes, I have no idea how to fix.

I have a whirlpool duet washer that is only 14 months old & I finally pulled a t-shirt out of the washer (between the drum & seal) that seriously ripped at the bottom. I have been experience this problem for over 6 months& thought at first is was my whirlpool dryer, but the service guy that came out stated it was, in fact, the washer. I've had the seal fixed because I started seeing a pool of water on my basement floor every time I washed. At first, there were a few little holes appearing on a few t-shirts, but I thought it was just wear & tear. Now every time I wash, there is at least one/two pieces of clothing torn! It's so bad that my 550 thread count sheets, my husband's Polo/Nike t-shirts, & expensive work shirts have been compromised by this washer. I really thought that I purchased a reliable machine because of the brand, but this is truly a manufacturing issue!

We have the same problem with Whirlpool Duet front load washer... torn clothes... we almost blamed our old dryer and even changed it to a new Whirlpool Duet Steam dryer.... still finding holes in clothes. So now we realize it is the washer and are in messy situation...

Does anyone know Whirlpool contact details to call and register a complaint?

We have the whirlpool Duet front load washer.  It is the worst machine I have ever had.  I have learned to fix it myself because of the many issues I have with it monthly.  I have even had socks wedged in between the drum and the main outer wall.  How does that even happen.  It has torn many shirts and my youngest daughters pants and dresses.  I have been looking at replacing the bellow but after reading all the comments on this terrible machine, I wont waste the money $150 for parts.  Plus an hour or so I could be golfing.
Will never buy a whirlpool washer again.  I am seriously thinking about going back to the old top load.  They build those now without agitators so you still get the same great load size.

WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OUR DUET.  ALL OF MY TWO SONS NHL HOCKEY JERSEYS, NOT TO MENTION OTHER CLOTHING, HAVE BEEN RIPPED TO SHREDS IN THE PAST THREE MONTHS.  THIS REPRESENTS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AND MANY MORE TEARS!  WE THOUGHT IT WAS THE DRYER AND STARTED HANGING THINGS TO DRY BUT THE CLOTHES KEEP RIPPING TO SHREDS. THE THING IS A MONSTER.  I WISH THERE WAS A WAY TO POST A PICTURE FOR WHIRLPOOL TO SEE HOW RIDICULOUS THIS IS.  WILL WHIRLPOOL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY EVEN OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD?  WE ARE IN CANADA -- HELP!!!!

I have had my front load whirlpool dryer and washer since 2006 and have been experiencing rips in all of my towels since then and it is now March of 2013.  I wasn't sure what it was at first but am convinced it is the washer or dryer.  How do I get this resolved?

Our washer, purchased September 18, 2010, has just broke for the third time. Within months after purchasing, the washer started making holes in our clothes.  We have spent hundreds, if not over a thousand, dollars in repairs and ruined clothing. I have read 5 pages of the same complaints on complaintwire.org.  What is Whirlpool doing about this?  Is there a recall on the washer?  I look forward to your reply and resolution to the problem.

I am shocked to see how many others are experiencing exactly what I have been! For the past month we have had a anywhere from 1-6 items per load coming out damaged. Myself and my children now have a pile of clothing that is garbage. Some tears small, but some large gashes in the fabric and irrepairable. I have a washer that was purchased this time last year... and an older dryer. I was sure it was the dryer doing the damage but turns out to be our front loader. I have not tried to have it serviced yet... and do not have money to be forking out either.
