Ripping/Tearing holes in clothes

TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

happy also many clothes ripped and torn.I called whirlpool nothing happened . no more whirlpool products here.
I have noticed other washers with several 3" flanges spaced along the edge of the boot. My guess is that this is to prevent clothes from doing this by knocking them out of the gap. I'm hoping WP will create an aftermarket boot designed like this...for all of you. I've given up and am getting a Bosch.
My recommendation is to stay away from American machines and Whirlpool in particular.
Is there a fix to it
Does whirlpool do anything about it
I tried things like using Armorall before every load, setting the speed to medium and not filling the washer as full, but still got periodic damage.
Based on information from this forum and Whirlpool Technical Service Pointer W10539798, I replaced both the bellows and the door glass. I used door glass (Horizon Flat Glass) W10388315 and bellows W10290499.
I used online videos to show how to remove the stack kit and replace the bellows and glass.
After the replacement, the door was harder to close but it does close with a tight seal.
We have now been running the new setup for several months and have not seen any evidence of new damage to clothes. I am also hoping that this fixes the gap that allows small items to be sucked into the drain filter.
Thank you to all those who posted a solution to this problem. No thanks to Whirlpool who not only put out a faulty product but didn't feel that they needed to fix their crass mistake.
We thought it was the garment itself..
Now it’s getting worse..It even ripped the collar in one of my t shirts..A very nice repair man came and took a soft cloth to rub around the drum to find a spur that may be catching the garment...Nothing..He puts in on empty and it makes a noise.I’m telling you what i told him..In a front loaded there are no belts..It’s a direct drive motor..I am telling you that if it is getting worse as time goes on then the bearings in that motor are worn..
Friday we have a tech supervisor coming..
I am going to tell him the same thing..Todays guy had no power to authorize taking it apart..I guess we have to keep calling until they replace the motor or the machine..
Never again will i buy whirlpool products..
My dishwasher and microwave and stove that we paid to upgrade builder appliances
also stink..We had an lg tromm 15 years and never had a repair.. We should have taken ut when we moved
Yet i have a bag of clothes with little holes in them being made by the drum..No gap between the door and the gasket..
No burrs in the drum..I had an lg and had to leave it at my old house. I should have bought another and spent the few extra bucks..Heres what i found..Lg has true balance whirlpool does not..I firmly believe after 4 years the bearings on the direct drive motor are wearing..Causing the drum to spin out of balance at high speed..So for now i would suggest this..Heavy duty clothes like jeans and sweats can go on fast or very fast..Everything else.. Pj’s
undies,t shirts,thinner blouses etc
no higher than medium spin..It works well and the clothes are not wet..It’s not a final answer but at least i can use my machine
ps i am not renewing that [***] svc contract..If they can’t give me a new machine i’ll just wait until the freakin thing breaks and buy an lg tromm
