TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

We are having the  exactly same problem with our Whirlpool Duet washing machine.

It has ruined hundreds of dollars worth of clothing.

How do I become apart of the class lawsuit against Whirlpool?

Just googled for help on the whirlpool washer shredding clothes & VERY disappointed to see 3 pages of complaints!  We purchased the duet washer & dryer about a year ago & I was under the impression that first the dryer was maybe the problem melting the clothes but found yet another piece of laundry ruined today from the washer...I was always under the impression that Whirlpool was a top line company but after reading these complaints am sick because I just purchased a Whirlpool microwave last week :(  If I would have known then about them what I know now would not & will not be purchasing anymore of their products. I would appreciate info on becoming part of the class action lawsuit also.

I have the same issue. Clothes being torn apart in the washer. The other day I had a repairman here for the second time, he said there was lint build up around the seal that was causing water to run on the floor. I realise now it was actually small pieces of a navy blue polo shirt that I just removed from the dryer with holes in it. Several other ruined articles of clothing as well.

I will try warranty service one more time as I did not know about the washer destroying clothes like this. Just assumed I had bad luck a few times.

We have also had nothing but problems with our Whirlpool we have ours for about a year and a half. Same issues as everyone else, ripped and burnt looking marks and clothing. One boot ripped out after 6 months. We replaced the second boot at about one year (out of pocket) and guess what? Last night another boot just ripped out of the machine!!!!!! What the hell is going on with this company!!!!! Back in the day you could rely on a whirlpool to last 10 years or more!!!! Time to bring the company's manufacturing back to the good ole USA. If you can get these appliances made cheaper in China then sell this junk to the Chinese and let them deal with these issues!!! Never again!!!! Guess what? I myself am going to the store tomorrow any just buying a new washer. I can guarentee that it will not be a Whirlpool and it will not be a GE as our last GE was repaired SEVEN TIMES IN ONE YEAR (and it was not even a year old!!!!!!!!! It got so bad that our local repair shop refused to even repair it. We had to fight with GE, The repair shop had to fight with GE. Wise up people!!!! Don't go crying when your companies are filing bankrupcy because people stop buying your garbage!!!

We bought the duet washer in 2011 two months later the rubber ripped all over someone came over to fix it since it was still under warranty and replaced it with a new rubber, then three months later it happened again then the machine was still under warranty and the third time it happened I had to pay because it was out of warranty and I've also noticed that the clothes are getting ripped , I'd recommend that nobody would buy product because this is the worst I have purchased.

I have had my Whirlpool duet washer and dryer for almost 7 years now. I have noticed many of my clothes have small holes in them. I thought it was the dryer. I was just curious to see if anybody else had the same problem and I see they have. I have ruined lots of clothes and continue to find small holes. It really tore up one of my husbands jackets along the bottom hem - 2 quarter sized holes beyond repair. Yes, a class-action lawsuit might be our best bet...I'm in.

Same here!!!! Torn clothing and service men coming during warranty period and saying there is nothing wrong with it. Suggestions to buy a mesh bag for small clothing, it is not only small cloths that get chewed up.  Sweatshirts chewing up zippers, and shirts bottoms seem to be the most common.  The latest call with the service department says that she has never herd of this problem, but according to these comments it is very common.
I too am interested in a class action lawsuits, but is it even possible to do it for torn clothing?

I've noticed this problem for the last two years...little holes here and there on BRAND NEW CLOTHING!  I estimate we've had several thousands of dollars worth of damage to our clothing...baseball jerseys, sweaters, clothing and the like.  A few high-end sport polos (Nike and Adidas) actually look like my husband was dragged behind a semi-truck...they have giant holes that appear to be burned into the fabric.  He thought it was the dryer...I've always had an inkling that it was indeed my Duet Washing Machine.  Seeing all of you here makes me believe my hunch is right.  I've been washing everything on the "Delicate" cycle and that seems to help, but clothes with the holes in them from the Economy Cycle are beyond repair and continue to rip!  I'm fed up and ready to scream!

I have the same problem with my Whirlpool.  I want another washer and do not want extended warranties or any service since I am reading that it doesn't work anyway.  I have torn clothing and ripped sheets.  This thing is a CLOTHES WASHER.  It is ridiculous to even argue about it.  If I do not get a replacement or a complete refund, I will be interested in a class action lawsuit also.

Sorry to see all the problems people are having, but I feel I am not alone now.

I have had many articles of clothing torn by our duet washing machine.  I think what happens is that especially when the washer is very full some clothes get caught between the rubber gasket and drum during the spin cycle.  If I have a full load I will not use the high speed spin cycle.  Also, I will not pack clothes into the washer very tight.  Problem is better but still get rips sometimes.  I will not buy another Whirlpool product.

That might be some of your problem but I will bet even money that the bearing is failing and the tubs are getting out of alignment. When that happens, the clothes are getting caught in between the tubs.

We are also experiencing numerous shredded articles of clothing with our whirlpool duet washing machine.  It was happening for months.  Our warranty is expired now.  My repairman dug a sock out of the drain hose a weeks ago after the machine quit draining.  And today, the machine shredded a underarmor shirt I got for Christmas from my daugther.   Numerous times, I have found kid socks jammed into the rubber gasket after a wash cycle.  The problems are numerous.  We bought a whirlpool because of the company's reputation,  I have forever have a changed view of this company and will be sure to give another manufacturer our business.  I would like someone to contact me directly to help resolve this issue.
