TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

I to have the same problem as everyone else with holes. I read in a previous post about a new designed glass for the door has corrected the problem. We have an extended warranty and called them for a repair. I didn't have much faith but felt it was the only avenue to use. The A&E repairman came out ant we told him what it was doing. As expected he told us to do smaller loads. I told him he was full of it and that I had hundreds of complaints on my iPad with the same problem. I told him I wanted the redesigned glass installed- period. He made a call, to whirlpool I expect, and told us that he would replace the glass. It was installed today. My wife did all the laundry with no holes. I don't know if this fix is perminant, but it looks good so far. As with the previous post, the glass is round and not flat on top. It does appear to hold the cloths away from the seal much better than the other glass. Also, I believe whirlpool is aware of the problem because the A&E repairman said that ours washer was the model that qualified for the new glass. If you don't have a warranty still in effect,  I saw the cost of the glass and it was less than 40 dollars. Order one and put it in yourself. It didn't look like rocket science to me. Hope this helps all of you that is in the same boat.
Ps. My washer was the maytag version of the whirlpool duet.

    glad
I posted awhile ago about the glass replacement and glad someone found it useful.  The ae repair men will give hog-wash responses like doing smaller
loads.  I was lucky that my second repair man was independent and alerted me of the new door whirlpool should pay even after warrrenty fot the door but I recommend paying the 40 dollars as stated above, use a screwdirver to remove the inner glass from the door frame and change it out.  It looks really easy.  Save your receipt.  I keep checking for class lawsuits.  A couple of hundreds of dollars of clothing- rags now.

Hi everyone.  I have the same duet machine. It's been tearing holes eating socks. I always have to clean the filter out. Last week it didn't drain. Yesterday I found a sock in the filter.  I will be calling whirlpool. I'm tired of paying for the serviceman.

My Duet washer is 2 years old and we have had to spend over $700 on 3 diferent repairs Bearing, Door Seal, and then the Board. The \whole time it has casue holes in our clothes and now it is getting worse. Every load at least one shirt is ruined. I am a big guy so my clothes are not cheap. I could have bought a good top load machine for the money i have had to pay to repair and I am extremely frustrated and dont know what to do at this point.

Is anyone starting a class action law suit for this issue? This was a known issue to whirlpool and should have been fixed by them at no cost to the consumers. The fact that they knowingly keep selling these washers with this problem is appalling. What happened to good customer service. I am forced to pay for the repair simply because I don't have the money to buy a new washer and I need my clothes washed!

My husband and I will be more than happy to sign on with others for the class action to at least get imbursed for the repairs. Keep all receipts!!!! Some one please contact us with details, and file a complaint with the BBB.

    Contact us at Bennettbillpay@yahoo.com

    Thank you

Also, if someone knows where I can go to get the new glass, my husband can install it. I'm not worried about the warranty since it is expired. I have done a quick search online but all I see is the full door assembly for $180.

    Thanks for the help

I found my receipt for the door glass. The number on the receipt is 26 110 W10388315 1. It was $35.09 plus tax.  The service company was A&E out of Columbus Oh. 800 905 9505. Hope this helps

    awt oh
So i purchased the whirlpool Duet Washer about 3 months ago.  I started noticing holes in my cloths i'm like hmmmmmm that's weird first a pair of older pants then on a pair of nice rock revival pants from Buckle two holes through both sides of the pant leg?? I thought i got screwed on my pants but low and behold shirts are showing up with holes in them.  (The holes have the same pattern)  So i googled (Do front load washers rip holes in cloths)  Sure enough all these comments on the whirlpool Duet ripping cloths.  I'm mad but confidant that where i purchased the washer they will make it right for me with these kinds of complaints!!!!!

WE are having the exact same problem as all of you with our DUET Whirlpool washing machine.  We have tiny holes in all of our clothing and it recently just destroyed one of my daughters night gowns.  The seal has been replaced once, the drain error has happened twice and it is getting old.  We have lightened our loads and it is still doing the same thing.  WE are very disappointed in the product.

Anyone get anything fixed with this?  My Duet Steam Dryer is the culprit for me.  The steam nozzle is what is ripping clothes.  You can see threads stuck to it.  Whirlpool said I have to pay for a service call since it is out of warranty.  I already know the result of the service call.  Service person will remove the threads stuck in nozzle and tell me I am good to go, with no real fix.  Then I'll just have more clothes ruined.  Thanks whirlpool  You stink.

Oh I forgot to add.  We always get the F21 error.  I wonder if I am getting items stuck in the drain hose like the rest of you are.  I just can't believe Whirlpool will not stand behind their products.

My family as well is suffering from our washer eating our clothes. It has been going on for months! It started as a drain issue which was resolved. Next, my washer smells terrible and I had to purchase a product to clean it every month! Now it is eating my clothes. It started off slowly and now it's eating at least 2 items or more per load! I have had enough! After reading these posts I have a feeling I'm not the only one. What can I do to resolve this problem for I junk it along with whirlpool's reputation. The sales man at Sears said this was the BEST for our money. I have found that to be a lie! Not only will I never purchase whirlpool again I will never shop at Sears! Someone better do something quick about this or whirlpool will eventually go out of business!

Same problem as everyone in this post. I am seriously thinking about a lawsuit against whirlpool. My wife and I are going out to look for a new washer/dryer however the amount of damage whirlpool has cause is extreme.

Same problem here....shirt after shirt ruined. At first I thought it was defective clothing until I noticed it on many different brands. Makes me furious because of all the ruined clothes.  I really don't want to bother with a repairman who will probably not be able to repair. I will probably go out and buy a different brand washer. Grrrrr.

We've been having this same issue for over a year. the service we hired have been twice to pull out socks sucked into the drain, even if we try to have them in a net bag. we tough we had moths eating our clothes and even hired terminix for over a year thinking the moths were eating our clothes but they told us they could not find anything and it was totally unusual for a new home to have those issues. we have had very expensive torn shirts and suit pants..  We have lost clothes worth more than what the washer is worth.  We've seen this problem listed on other sites as well seems like a design flaw with this machine and after 2 years the warranty has expired is not even worth buying whirlpool any more. All of my appliances were whirlpool   this is my second whirlpool washer in 5 years. the dryer keeps working well. We in Texas we have a Lemon Law wondering if anyone has gone thru the same problem in Texas and has action anything under that law.

I am relieved to know that we aren't the only ones having this problem.  We bought ours in 2010 and it's only in the last year that we've experienced out clothes being torn.  I am very disappointed to find out that there isn't anything we can do about it.  It took us a while to figure out why stuff was being ruined.  Almost every wash has something torn.  We've been trying to do smaller loads to see if it helps.  Very disappointing.
