TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

So happy to read all of these post which tell the same experience that we have been enduring for the past year. We bought a new home in December 2012 that came with a Maytag (Whirlpool) washer and dryer. The washer has been putting holes and rubber marks on our clothes as well. The first occurrence was several months after we moved in, then not again for a few months, then again a few months after that. During the 1st year it damaged the odd item but it has gotten worse over the past several months and is now producing holes and rubber marks on clothes every few loads. The tech couldn't find the problem but we knew that it wasn't spinning properly and took videos of the irregular drum movement during the spin cycle so he replaced the drum. It didn't fix the problem and they are wanting to send out another tech but we have been months trying to figure this out and don't have confidence in their ability to fix it as they are trying to trouble shoot it based on our experience because they haven't found anything wrong during their services calls and say that everything appears to be in good working order. We have already lost several hundred dollars worth of cloths and are really loosing faith in this product and the company who encourages techs to continue to replace parts when the existing ones are in the same condition as the new ones and we continue to accrue a financial loss from damaged clothes after the new parts have been installed. A design defect explains why the techs don't find problems with the existing parts and why replacing parts doesn't fix the problem. Thanks for sharing your experiences to help support others who find themselves in this frustrating situation.

Ever since we purchased our Whirlpool Duet Washer I have had my beautiful tops ruined with holes showing up in the front bottom.  At first I noticed it and then it was happening more and more. started noticing ALL of my pretty expensive tops were getting these little holes mainly in the front a couple of inches from the bottom of the top.  I take exceptional care of my very expensive clothing, using garmet bags, not washing them with zippers or clothes with hooks, checking seatbelts (smooth) Woolite HE and they are still getting holes. My friends and family can't believe this is happening and I'm fed up with this...I'm hoping that Whirlpool can solve my problem  if not...I will NEVER buy or suggest a Whirlpool washer to any of my friends or family.

Same issue here too.  I called Whirlpool yesterday after the 10 th article of clothing was ruined in the past fe months and the tech said he has heard of this problem multiple times but since my warrantee ran out a year ago there was nothing they could do for me.  The supervisor I talked to said she had not heard of this complaint (bull!) and I am out of luck.  This is such crap and I am getting so annoyed.  We are talking about a $700 machine and several hundred dollars in clothes.  I'm a teacher, I don't have money to just throw away like that.

More of the same.  Lots of holes.  Clothes destroyed.  Service horrible.  Hello???  I second the class action lawsuit idea.  Now what do I buy to replace it????  Considering a bucket and board at this stage after all the nightmares this machine has put me through.

Sons football jersey and pants Destroyed along with several hundreds of dollars in other cloths. These machines are garbage. I  cant believe hat this company is allowed to treat customers like this and dont have to fix the problem. I saved hard and spent allot of money on this set and completely broken hearted that I just have to buy a new washer.

Don't know if this helps, but it is the glass at the back of the washer door causing this issue. Whirlpool has a rework on the glass, but are only doing the repair on a complaint basis, and only covering it within the warranty period. If you are experiencing this out of warranty, still worth contacting Whirlpool and stick to your guns. Let them know that you know they have been aware of this issue for some time, and that you feel they should cover this repair. They still may not cover it, but it's worth the try. The service technician and the retailer can do very little to help you once you are out of warranty, so pick up the phone, call Whirlpool, and BE FIRM (no need to be nasty, the person who answers the phone is under-paid and over-worked). Good luck. :)

Our washer is doing the same thing, but was bought in 2007.  Do you happen to know if replacing the glass will work on the older models?  I called Whirlpool and as expected they knew nothing of the problem.  I spoke with a supervisor who would do nothing but give me the number to the parts distributor.  When I called them, the glass is $119 plus shipping.  If we get it and it is the same one that we have, we have to pay shipping to return it to them.  Thanks for your help!

We had a Whirlpool Duel only 16 month old. It's been fixed several times. It torn clothing on every load right now. Whirlpool just won't do anything about it. For the past 20 years all our appliances are from whirlpools'. Now we are replacing them one by one with other brands. Only way to fix this may be is just put them out of business I guess.

I purchased my Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer 7months ago. My clothes have deteriorated ever since then. They are worn out and have holes in them. My towels are threadbare. Clothes are so worn out, that they rip through everyday use. Colors would fade within few washes. The stretch would go out of the fabric and the garment would lose it's shape. I am using delicate cycle on everything now, the clothes are not clean anymore. I did all the right things then called my dealer who referred me to Whirlpool. The dryer was over drying and shrinking my clothes (on delicate cycle). The sensor kept resetting the dryer. For the dryer, they are getting a new sensor. For the washer, after questioning me on all the usual things I should have done, they said the door needed a new shape glass. Meanwhile, I knew my problem was nothing to do with the door, it's uniform wearing out. I felt the drum and it was sharp and abrasive!! The drum had not been smoothed off from the other side. This explains why everything was so worn out, it was like putting my clothes through a sander. So now they are sending a service guy to look at it. They won't compensate me for the clothes I have ruined and they won't guarantee that the washer will not destroy any more clothes. They won't give me a load of wash to try out the repaired washer. I am not willing to put my new clothes in there and wait for the result. I would like  them to stand by their products and take full ownership. I want to get rid of these junk appliances and cut my losses. They won't buy back the washer/dryer. Don't have time to waste waiting for the service guy and then wait 3 months or more to find out how it worked and then the warranty is over.

I have beend ealing with this in a W9105WW since purchased July 2010.
A call to Whirlpool stated there is no known issue with these units (HA!)

I have requested the replacement window as a part of my next service visit, we'll see what happens. maybe I'll just keep filing requests under the extended warrantee for every ripped article going forward.

Also, filed a BBB complaint through the HQ address for Whirlpool.

I suppose I should write this just for the record also. We have the dual Whirlpool machines also, which were bought in September 2010. About a year later, clothes began ripping. It doesn't end there, the gasket ripped and were sucking in socks, clogging the drain pipe. Now the drum is acting up and banging against itself.

If anyone has a solution in addition to the aforementioned replacement of the glass piece, it would be greatly appreciated. I don't even care if a lawsuit occurs and the lawyers take up a chunk of the winnings, as long as Whirlpool gets a sting for putting out a shoddy product, I'm happy.

We bought a Whirlpool Duet Tumblefresh washer and dryer in March 2011.  It has been ripping our clothing ever since.  Whirlpool replaced most of the parts and it is still ripping clothing.  Their customer service keeps telling me that it is my problem and I don't know how to wash clothing properly!!! I can't belive all of these complaints and the washer has not been recalled.

I own the Duet Model WFW915WW00 and my son's torn soccer jersey today was the last straw that got me searching for solutions.  I'm so glad to find this thread!  When I read all of these posts and got the VERY clear picture that the problem obviously due to a faulty product I took to calling Whirlpool immediately. (1-800-253-1301) I assumed that they would have an appropriate response to this problem.  The informed me that this "isn't a known problem" and that the only thing they could do was provide a referral to a service shop.  I would have to pay for the expense of the repair.  After losing so many pieces of clothing (at a great expense), I couldn't believe their response!!!

I contacted the Better Business Bureau immediately and filed a complaint.  The correct BBB office for Whirlpool corporate is:

Better Business Bureau - Western Michigan
    2627 E. Beltline Ave SE
    Grand Rapids, MI 49546
    616-774-8236
    terry@westernmichigan.bbb.com

I will admit that I was dreading filing the complaint.  I hated the thought that, after already being inconvenienced so much, I would have to be inconvenienced MORE by going through the complaint process.  I am happy to report that the process was not painful.  I did it online and it took only a few minutes.  The longest portion of the filing process was simply explaining what problems I'd experienced personally.

I followed up with Whirlpool by letting them know that I had filed the complaint.  They weren't interested.  I'm not impressed with their customer support on this issue.

I would be eager to join a class action law suit - after all, it ate my FAVORITE t-shirt!!!!

I know what's causing the problem of tearing cloths, but found it out after tearing mine apart for the same dang reason.  I stopped calling for the f24 error and learned how to clean the drain out myself.  It happens so often that I don't even put the bottom back on my washer.  However, in regards to the torn cloths.  As the drum spins the cloths work into the small (I do mean small) space between the gasket and the drum.  Which is why often times you find the cloths twisted really bad too.  The problem is that up at the top where the laundry soap goes in, there is a hose inside there and it is attached with a hose clamp.  As the cloths work their way up they get caught on the hose clamp, and twist and twist, when the cloths begin the high speed spin cycle, they rip off of the clamp screw putting holes in your clothes.  As if the tearing clothes, the smell they get from the washer, if its anything like my washer, the dang thing sounds like its going to blast through the basement walls during the spin cycle.

      Me too!
I have to lean against the machine while it spins which helps to quiet it down, but I never could understand why my things come out torn!
