WE BOUGHT A MAYTAG TOP LOAD CENTENNIAL WASHER JULY OF 2011.   WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE COMING IN THE DOOR.  IT WAS PURCHASED AT HARRINGTON APPLIANCE IN HARRINGTON DELAWARE .   THE FIRST THING WE NOTICED IS THAT THE CLOTHES WERE NOT GETTING CLEAN AND A CYCLE TAKES AN ABSURDLY LONG TIME.   IF YOU HAVE A SOUNDPROOF LAUNDRY ROOM, YOU MIGHT BE OK.  IT IS VERY NOISY AND TODAY WE HAD TO REBALANCE ONE LOAD ELEVEN TIMES.  RIDICULOUS.  WE HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE LOCAL PEOPLE IT WAS PURCHASED FROM AND THE MAYTAG COMPANY AND HAD A REPAIRMAN LOOK AT IT, TO NO AVAIL.  LONG STORY SHORT, IT IS A CRUMMY PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE PAID.   I GUESS WE PAID BY THE DECIBEL, BECAUSE WE GOT PLENTY OF BANG FOR OUR BUCK.

this is regarding mislabeling energy savings if your washer has that energy star label--THEY ALL WASTE ENERGY due to having to use the bulky settings INSURING YOUR ITEMS EVEN GET WET, and most times NOT DESTROYED BY BEING SHREDDED AND MANGLED.
i don't know if this is still ""open"" but there is a contact phone number

I agree with the comments above. I can't wait for the washer to die.  I will never buy Maytag again. It's noisy. I have to keep rearranging the clothes and definitely can't wash pillows.

does anyone KNOW of a brand that works ?
this is unreal how these washers are made and programmed.
WHERE'S THE WATER FOR CRRRYSAKE !
it's skeevy to be removing items that have dry patches etc after WASTIN TIME RUNNIN THE CYCLE--that also is another problem--it takes too long, all these grinding sounds, INEFFICIENT RINSE AND EXTRACTION--mygawd ENOUGH
I HAVE TO WASTE MY  WELL WATER and run this washer on a bulky setting to ensure clothes get wet, washed and rinsed and most times WITHOUT being mangled and destroyed.
and of course the loads are appropriate BUT NO WHERE NEAR the size of the loads i used to put into my 25 year old sears washer that ave an incredible wash, deep rinse, spray rinse and extraction.

I have the Maytag Centennial Commercial Series washer and dryer. The dryer does ok except the time continues to run after it has shut off. The washer has been a nightmare!! It has a sensor that is supposed to know how much water to put in according to your load. I have had it to fill to the top on small loads and not even cover the larger loads. My husband has cleaned the sensor many, many times. Most of the time, I just keep opening the top so it will add more water. It makes soooo much noise. The metal is so thin it dents everywhere. Now when it is washing, it is just wrapping the clothes around the agitator. They get so tight, you can hardly pull them loose. That means it is just agitating in one direction. JUST GREAT!  Also, it leaves greasy looking spots all over my dark loads and white residue too. I will NEVER EVER buy a Maytag, Whirlpool, Frigidaire or GE washer again. I understand they are all made by the same company. Going to look into a Speed Queen. They are still made in the USA.

I agree this machine does not live up to the name Maytag.  It takes forever and a day to wash just one load of clothes and they are not clean sometimes. I will do some research before I purchase another machine, it pays to listen to others who have put hard earned money out.

I bought my Maytag Centennial about three years ago and I am completely frustrated with having to wait an hour for a small load of laundry only to find that the clothes have streaks of soap left on them.  I use Tide HE, put just a small amount of soap at the bottom as it says.  I spread the clothes out evenly and loosely, making sure not to cover the center.  I am so sick of this machine.  I wash in warm water and extra rinse every time.  I washed a blanket a couple weeks ago and it was only half wet.  What a piece of crap machine this is.  Maytag has totally lost its reputation.

All of the same problems above for me also. This Maytag centennial washer is the worst product ever sold by anybody for $500!! What a big rip off! To my sorrow, I bought this Maytag Centennial because my old Maytag had lasted 25 years but was still going strong. I wanted to upgrade to new technology, and save water. What a mistake! .It leaves residue on the clothes it barley puts water on your clothes and the spin cycle sometimes leaves your clothes very wet....It was stuck on a cycle and a repairman fixed it..Just truly unhappy with this product...I wish Maytag would pick this item up and replace it with another unit I would be willing to pay to have my close clean and not have to do a second rinse every time I wash...

    Satisfied Customer
Thought I was getting a good reliable product when I made my purchase; thinking highly of Maytag. Little did I know, the joke was on me. When I first brought this beauty home I put a level on it for the best performance possible. On her maiden voyage I just sat back in amazement. This thing not only looked like it was going to run right out of my laundry room but it sounded as if there was a gaggle of school kids tap dancing on the top of my washing machine. My wife and a have learned to deal with the noise(making sure we were not home when we started a load of laundry), but now this reliable piece of somethin doesn't know whether it is in the rise wash or spin cycle. Laundry comes out soaking wet even after the third spin cycle. I'm going to have to invest in a wash tub and a clothes line; i'll save a lot of money and my clothes will actually come out clean. My hats off to this one, truly amazing!

    Former Maytag fan
I wrote a little ditty for Maytag that goes like this:

    Maytag Maytag piece of crap
If you buy one, you are truly a sap
Does not run and will not work
If you buy one, you are some kind of jerk
We got took and we got screwed
We'll pass the word about Maytag loud as we can
Hope they do not spend all their money in one place
Cause eventually there will be no more.

    Two men in bar.
One says,  Eh, Ebb, does you know what the word Maytag means
It means broke and cannot fix.

Lex, I heard its another word for screwed.

My Maytag  centennial  stopped spinning. My clothes are soaking wet. I tried setting in to drain and spin but it will not work. After reading these comments I think I will just buy a different machine It does not sound prudent to throw good money into trying to fix a defective product such as this washer. I am very disappointed. I am a school teacher with three children and I can not afford to waste $500. I will not buy another Maytag product!

I bought this maytag centennial in 2015. last week i had the suspension changed. The problem do not go away.
My problem is that the washer jumps all around the place. It tore my wash basin off the wall and broke the drain pipes off the wall.  The service person said he never saw anything like it.

I bought my Maytag Centennial commercial brand. about 7 years ago. The agitator does not move like it should. My clothes are not getting washed. I would not buy Maytag again. Everything else works, Most of my machines in the past have lasted much longer.

Well, I had a Maytag Centennial Washer that I bought in 2013.  It died recently and I had to get a new machine because it was going to cost $450 to fix it, they would not guarantee the repair and they were going to stop making parts for it in 2 years.  Why would I fix a machine for $450 that cost $600 to begin with after just 5 years.

Unfortunately, the government got in the business of dictating water saving for appliances that use water.  Before the technology was firmly in place, the washing machines were rolled out with water saving features that just did not work right.  The only way to get clothes clean in one of these washers is to use the cycle where you can fill the entire tub with water, like the old ones, to be able to get the clothes clean.  If you have one without an agitator, you can forget ever getting clean clothes.  On top of this, the Maytag Centennial machines, stopped working after 5 years rather than the 20 we were use to with previous Maytag washing machines.  Maytag has not stood behind these machines and neither have the other manufacturers that all make washers.  So, basically, we are all SOL and have to buy new machines after just 5 years of use.

As to what you can do if you have one of these machines, absolutely nothing, which is really aggravating.  However, when it breaks down, bite the bullet and get rid of it and do NOT fix it.  Make sure you get a machine with an agitator and if you buy a machine that is NOT a Speed Queen with a 5 or 7 year warranty, you will need to buy an extended warranty to protect yourself.  This is because new washers only have a 1 year warranty.  Either way, you will have to pay $1800 to $2,000 for a new washer and dryer.  Of course, you can always keep your dryer.  Not sure there are problems with those.  But, most people want the pair to match, which unfortunately is our problem.  If you only buy the washer you will save some money.

Speed Queen has the ECO cycle, but it is only one of your options.  Basically, by pushing the buttons you want, you decide how much water to put into the machine for the size load you have, just like the old washing machines.  It is a pricey machine, but you are going to pay the money either way by buying one of these machines or having to buy an extended warranty to protect yourself from having to buy a new machine prematurely.
