WE BOUGHT A MAYTAG TOP LOAD CENTENNIAL WASHER JULY OF 2011. WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE COMING IN THE DOOR. IT WAS PURCHASED AT HARRINGTON APPLIANCE IN HARRINGTON DELAWARE . THE FIRST THING WE NOTICED IS THAT THE CLOTHES WERE NOT GETTING CLEAN AND A CYCLE TAKES AN ABSURDLY LONG TIME. IF YOU HAVE A SOUNDPROOF LAUNDRY ROOM, YOU MIGHT BE OK. IT IS VERY NOISY AND TODAY WE HAD TO REBALANCE ONE LOAD ELEVEN TIMES. RIDICULOUS. WE HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE LOCAL PEOPLE IT WAS PURCHASED FROM AND THE MAYTAG COMPANY AND HAD A REPAIRMAN LOOK AT IT, TO NO AVAIL. LONG STORY SHORT, IT IS A CRUMMY PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE PAID. I GUESS WE PAID BY THE DECIBEL, BECAUSE WE GOT PLENTY OF BANG FOR OUR BUCK.

how they ARE STILL selling this POS is beyond me.
this is regarding mislabeling energy savings if your washer has that energy star label--THEY ALL WASTE ENERGY due to having to use the bulky settings INSURING YOUR ITEMS EVEN GET WET, and most times NOT DESTROYED BY BEING SHREDDED AND MANGLED.
i don't know if this is still ""open"" but there is a contact phone number
this is unreal how these washers are made and programmed.
WHERE'S THE WATER FOR CRRRYSAKE !
it's skeevy to be removing items that have dry patches etc after WASTIN TIME RUNNIN THE CYCLE--that also is another problem--it takes too long, all these grinding sounds, INEFFICIENT RINSE AND EXTRACTION--mygawd ENOUGH
I HAVE TO WASTE MY WELL WATER and run this washer on a bulky setting to ensure clothes get wet, washed and rinsed and most times WITHOUT being mangled and destroyed.
and of course the loads are appropriate BUT NO WHERE NEAR the size of the loads i used to put into my 25 year old sears washer that ave an incredible wash, deep rinse, spray rinse and extraction.
This goes public and the sign is pulled and all complaints are public knowledge !!!
Maytag Maytag piece of crap
If you buy one, you are truly a sap
Does not run and will not work
If you buy one, you are some kind of jerk
We got took and we got screwed
We'll pass the word about Maytag loud as we can
Hope they do not spend all their money in one place
Cause eventually there will be no more.
Two men in bar.
One says, Eh, Ebb, does you know what the word Maytag means
It means broke and cannot fix.
Lex, I heard its another word for screwed.
My problem is that the washer jumps all around the place. It tore my wash basin off the wall and broke the drain pipes off the wall. The service person said he never saw anything like it.
Unfortunately, the government got in the business of dictating water saving for appliances that use water. Before the technology was firmly in place, the washing machines were rolled out with water saving features that just did not work right. The only way to get clothes clean in one of these washers is to use the cycle where you can fill the entire tub with water, like the old ones, to be able to get the clothes clean. If you have one without an agitator, you can forget ever getting clean clothes. On top of this, the Maytag Centennial machines, stopped working after 5 years rather than the 20 we were use to with previous Maytag washing machines. Maytag has not stood behind these machines and neither have the other manufacturers that all make washers. So, basically, we are all SOL and have to buy new machines after just 5 years of use.
As to what you can do if you have one of these machines, absolutely nothing, which is really aggravating. However, when it breaks down, bite the bullet and get rid of it and do NOT fix it. Make sure you get a machine with an agitator and if you buy a machine that is NOT a Speed Queen with a 5 or 7 year warranty, you will need to buy an extended warranty to protect yourself. This is because new washers only have a 1 year warranty. Either way, you will have to pay $1800 to $2,000 for a new washer and dryer. Of course, you can always keep your dryer. Not sure there are problems with those. But, most people want the pair to match, which unfortunately is our problem. If you only buy the washer you will save some money.
Speed Queen has the ECO cycle, but it is only one of your options. Basically, by pushing the buttons you want, you decide how much water to put into the machine for the size load you have, just like the old washing machines. It is a pricey machine, but you are going to pay the money either way by buying one of these machines or having to buy an extended warranty to protect yourself from having to buy a new machine prematurely.
