WE BOUGHT A MAYTAG TOP LOAD CENTENNIAL WASHER JULY OF 2011.   WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE COMING IN THE DOOR.  IT WAS PURCHASED AT HARRINGTON APPLIANCE IN HARRINGTON DELAWARE .   THE FIRST THING WE NOTICED IS THAT THE CLOTHES WERE NOT GETTING CLEAN AND A CYCLE TAKES AN ABSURDLY LONG TIME.   IF YOU HAVE A SOUNDPROOF LAUNDRY ROOM, YOU MIGHT BE OK.  IT IS VERY NOISY AND TODAY WE HAD TO REBALANCE ONE LOAD ELEVEN TIMES.  RIDICULOUS.  WE HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE LOCAL PEOPLE IT WAS PURCHASED FROM AND THE MAYTAG COMPANY AND HAD A REPAIRMAN LOOK AT IT, TO NO AVAIL.  LONG STORY SHORT, IT IS A CRUMMY PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE PAID.   I GUESS WE PAID BY THE DECIBEL, BECAUSE WE GOT PLENTY OF BANG FOR OUR BUCK.

Whatever happened to the top quality appliances that Maytag use to put out?  I bought a top loading Centennial washer by Maytag 2011 and it has to be the worse washing machine I've ever had!  It leaves the clothes dirty, leaves the clothes very wet, thus I have to repeat the spin cycle again, takes a long time to wash a load, have to rebalance the washer over and over, wastes electricity, makes a lot of noise, stops for no reason and has torn several items of clothing! The washer is suppose to have a larger capacity for washing clothes, this is not true, I find that I have to wash several very small loads which in turn is not living up to description that it's an energy saving washer!  After all is said and done, I find that I'm using more electricity and water!  I'm also finding that the Downy fabic softener ball does not work correctly, it's leaving my clothes stained from the Downy not mixing with the water.

I bought my washer at Reeds Appliance in Ventura, California,  I regret that I bought this washer and I'm saddened to find that Maytag, a name and product that once was excellent has put out such an inferior product.  I am a senior citizen, living on a set income; I'm battling stage 4 thyroid cancer and stage 2 breast cancer and believe me I could do without this aggravation, not to mention my clothing being destroyed.  I am so sorry that I bought this washer, unfortunately I'm stuck with this horrible washer.  Maytag...clean up your act, whatever happened to quality?

I agree the Maytag Centennial is a piece of crap!I bought in Jan 2011 had to have company come out in July 2011 because it wasn't spinning correctly and getting water out-it was still under warranty then. Then last week the control board went out--will not do anything--the sensing light just flashes. Called Maytag since it is 2 years old now they won't do anything. Now I'm stuck whether to pay $250 plus labor for a control board or buy another washer.  I wish I had repaired my 17 year old Maytag.  I have a 23 yr old Maytag stove and a 11 year old Maytag dryer. When you call the customer service line these people are like robots--telling you as a consumer they understand your frustration--that's a joke!

Since posting this Monday, I have talked with four customer service reps at Maytag.  One called Wednesday and offered to sell me a control board at half cost plus tax & shipping--would still be about $150 plus my cost to have installed. Or they would sell me a washer direct from factory at "discount price" of $500 plus $45 installation & haul off old machine.  I paid $527 for a washer that lasted 2 years, now they want to sell me another one for $545!!!!! Holy cow do these people have nerve!

I feel for you.  I got took to the cleaners by them also.  I'm using every social media site I can to ruin Maytag as much as I can.  You should do the same.

The control board only cost 123. new at the repair store. So people are getting extra money on them. I have to keep a     surge protector on my washer at all time. Because when I am not home to unplug it during a storm, a electrical surge will ruin that board.
This is probably why people just buy a new one. But the old ones used to last at least 18 yrs. with normal washing.

If you're handy, try out repairclinic.com. They sell the parts a lot cheaper than the OEM and they'll give you step by step to do the repair, along with a difficulty rating. But only if your handy with repairs. Otherwise you'll probably end up with an even bigger bill.

I too am an unproud owner of a may tag centennial. It is unequivocally a piece of trash, and it's only five years old. I'm am tired of things run by computers so I bought a speed queen commercial heavy duty, no computer or circuit boards. It cost me $700 dollars and has a five to fifteen year warranty and no plastic. The sheets are never clean.  Its disgusting.  A washer needs water to wash clothes.  Maytag Centennial is very noisy and totally inefficient, since the word efficient suggests a good job.  It's inefficient to take cloths out of the washer to find they are 'still dirty' and don't even smell clean.
