Under CA law is is harassment to call someone repeatedly and not say anything (silence to intimidate).

This company (319) 274-1902 called my home several times per week for 2 weeks.  When I or my wife answered the call there was no response - just silence.  Finally I had had enough and called back.  I asked immediately for them to stop calling me and to put me on their do not call list.  I was told they don't have a do not call list and then I was asked if "Valentina Johnson" lived here.  I told them no and tried to tell them how upset I was with them but they just said "all you have to say is its a wrong number."  Nonsense, they were clearly calling to get hold of this Valentina (my wife's name is Johnson and first name starts with V but not Valentina) and they were not going to say antything but keep calling until someone with the right accent answered the phone or someone called them back.  Silence being used to intimidate.  And they were targeting anyone with a name similar to this Valentina Johonson.

These guys need to be put out of business.

    I told them I dispute the debt. They call, and when I answer there is background music and they ask me to hold.
    Now I just hang up. If I dispute the debt, should they not be required to notify me in writing, give me a copy of the bill, provide an explanation?
    Isn't anything else just extortion?

    Paid 2 years latter they haven't updated credit report. Rip offs!!!!!!!

    they are calling my cell phone and it shows as unknown. I finally answered today as they leave no message. They claim they to be calling for my husband but wouldn't give me any info. I told them this is not his number it is my cell phone and the rude moron man hung up me saying he will keep calling for him. I will just not answer anymore if it says unknown.

    I have phone records of the Iowa branch of this company calling after 11 pm CT. They're scum.

    CBE has been calling consistantly for weeks even though I have no debt what so ever.

    They have been calling me several times per day for about six months, sometimes as early as 7:00 AM.  I think I did answer the phone once WAAAAAAY back in the beginning, at which time I was met with a VERY snotty, rude, belligerent, and disrespectful young woman when I requested that they discontinue their harassment.  They were looking for someone named Tyrone and, well, that sure isn't me.

    I think they stopped for a little while back then, but now the calls are persistent, daily, and usually multiple times per day.  I never answer it and decided to see if my phone carrier can block the number.

    And I'm virtually debt-free!  So... wtf.

    You guys are all dumb. You are complaining about ca's calling you but if this world didn't choose to get dtv dish or verizon and not pay their bills then they wouldn't be in this position. If u are having a hard enough time with your bills then why spend ur money on these extras?

    We are only trying to help all of you get some resolution, If you ignore the fact that you do have a bill it is not going to make it go away.
    Pick up the phone and figure out what options you have and get some resolution, i have bills like everyone else and I have the same problems as most of you.

      You are a moron.  What "resolution" do I need?  I carry no debt whatsoever - ZERO - and am still constantly harassed by you CBE EMPs.  If I needed "resolution," I still would not need to be harassed and annoyed with rude, classless idiots like CBE EMPs, who don't even know the names of the people they are calling!

      Why would I pick up the phone to find out what "options" I have?!  I have the "option" to ignore your harassment calls!  And even if I was stupid enough to get in over my head or carry debt and needed "options," based on these CBE's I would NEVER entertain ANY "option" from them.

      The only "problems" I have are getting rid of moronic parasites like you CBE EMPs.

    I do indeed have a debt to pay to DirectTV, which I fully intend to pay with my tax refund.  I am not complaining about that.  What I am concerned with is, this group CBE, calling my parents' house searching for me.  I have not lived with my parents in several years.  They are not financially responsible for me, nor have they been for almost 20 years, and have nothing to do with my monetary situation.  I would like to know - is it legal for this group CBE, to call my parents and speak to them in a threatening manner about my debt?  The call unnerved my mother and I take great offense to the fact that CBE turned to threatening my parents rather than contacting me directly.  Can anyone offer any legal advice on this situation?  If so, I would very much appreciate it.

      Most times numbers given to us are numbers associated with you whether it is a previous address, parents, etc. Please have whoever we call tell them it's a wrong number and tell them to call whatever number you use. We will then try to contact the new number.

    Bunch of turds.  Very unprofessional, except the managers.  They don't put you on the no call list, I identified myself, told them NOT to call back.  

    What can we do when they are calling our cellphones???!!!

    They called me looking for someone who had this number years ago (i have had my number for 5 years). They tried (and failed) to get me to agree to take over the responsibility of the bad debt. I told them the net time they called I would file complaints against them with all governing bodies, and sue them in court.

    Haven't heard from them since....

    CBE Group keep calling my cell number, wanting me to verify my home address and personal information.  When I asked what the CBE GROUP DOES, THE FELLOW REPLIED:  "You must give him my personal information first".

    He sounded peculiar and creepy with a low whispering voice.

      that's known as verification and it's to prevent disclosure of your debt to a TP.  Your DOB or address are something anyone can find and they already have that information they are just confirming from you it matches what you know, eliminating the possibility it is the wrong person.  Now the peculiar and creepy with a low whispering voice part... I don't really know what to say to that lol.

    They call me starting at 8 a.m. and there is only silence at the other end of the line.  They call all day and say nothing.  I owe them nothing.  What can I do to make them stop this harrassment????
