Under CA law is is harassment to call someone repeatedly and not say anything (silence to intimidate).

This company (319) 274-1902 called my home several times per week for 2 weeks.  When I or my wife answered the call there was no response - just silence.  Finally I had had enough and called back.  I asked immediately for them to stop calling me and to put me on their do not call list.  I was told they don't have a do not call list and then I was asked if "Valentina Johnson" lived here.  I told them no and tried to tell them how upset I was with them but they just said "all you have to say is its a wrong number."  Nonsense, they were clearly calling to get hold of this Valentina (my wife's name is Johnson and first name starts with V but not Valentina) and they were not going to say antything but keep calling until someone with the right accent answered the phone or someone called them back.  Silence being used to intimidate.  And they were targeting anyone with a name similar to this Valentina Johonson.

These guys need to be put out of business.

    Ok first of all you guys are ridiculous, do you know what it's like to be a bill collector? Yeah we call, the automated system says please hold the line for an operator. If you don't know this you aren't answering from CBE. Once the operator picks up they will ask for the debtor if it's not you it's not a reason to curse or be beligerant, just say nope wrong number and the person will get it removed. I personally hate being cursed at for doing my job, it's a job none the less, but if you guys get these calls understand that the operator had no choice in calling you it's automated, think about that if you want that operator to treat you with dignity and respect you may want to show them the same decency. We are bill collectors not enemies. We have to do our job for these companys that have lost a lot due to irresponsible partys or things that sometimes need done like refiling insurance for some consumers. Please understand that if someone calls and asks you to verify that the last four of you ss# is or the current address is? we are only asking you to say yes we aren't asking you to give us anything we don't already have.

      NOT TRUE!!! I worked in Collections... POINT BLANK if I tell you to STOP calling me or you have the WRONG number that's what I expect you to do... But nooo I get phone calls beginning at 8am until 9pm here in VA!!! It's ridiculous... So yes being I know my RIGHTS they get cursed out everytime!!!!! POINT BLANK!!! STOP CALLING... and if your getting cursed out then you should take it to the next level to make sure the number is REMOVED since you don't like being cursed out!!!!!

      Gee, you must be collection agency worker. I don't have outstanding bills but will tell you this the people that call from these places are not nice at all. You want us to sit there and take there BS and then be nice to them.  Tell them to quit with threats, if no answer try leaving a voice mail or is that to difficult. Be nice? practice what you preach

      I have absolutely no sympathy form people like you. You are leeches and parasites. You are in a business that is all about attempting to intimidate and harass people for financial gain.

      What goes around comes around. Although I am a peaceful non-violent person who would never hurt anybody you need to be aware that some of the stressed out people you harass might one day "lose it", buy an AK 47 and take a trip to you offices in Iowa. Your employees, neighbors and insurance company need to be aware of the potential danger you are thus creating for them. Let sleeping dogs lie.

      Again--I would NEVER do anything violent but if you keep it up one of these days you might be a sensational feature on the World News not due to me but one of your other depressed, stressed out, desperate business. You are in the WRONG business, as we Buddhists say, a wise person goes into the RIGHT business to help their fellow man and reap good rewards.

        Are you kidding?  Clearly you have never told one of these callers that they have the wrong person.  We do not get removed so easily.

        Also- think about it... you call asking me (who you called) for my address and/or ss#.  You should be providing that to me so that I know you already have it.  Otherwise, how do I know you have any legitimate info?  I certainly am not going to reveal this information to some stranger at the other end of my telephone.  I had BofA call me about 20 years ago.  She asked me for some info.  I said... I don't know who you are - ju st who you say you are.  She agreed and said of course, here is our number.  Please call to discuss your account.  When I called back I found that my ccard had been stolen and used.  BTW- she was much more professional than most of the callers from these types of places.

        If you do not like the way you are responded to, perhaps you should try another line of work.

        You try to make this out as a bill collector is all fluffy and nice when the automated system calls these numbers ???what a joke first of all this CBE group  has called my number 5 times and hung up on me as soon as i said that i was not the person they were looking for. Also i call the number back the came up on my display and WOW i called back through the automated system???  That should not happen as the auto calling put out a number that you cant call back. so Some idiot was calling me and when they heard that i was not the dips@#$ that they were looking for they hung up. So yes i did cures them out along with the SUPERVISOR that my dog is smarter than this guy. I use a automated system and i know how it works so YOU are ridiculous and need to get a clue to how things work

        you have the right not to work and harasse people everyday .. people like me who pay there bills and have to pay for the phone call from YOUR company is not right.  YOU go to work to collect a wage from a company that has a computer that randomly call numbers that MIGHT be someone else.  I think the individual is responsible for deliberate actions.. AND YOU the bill collector person that calls my house should be held responsible. I dont care who you work for CBE .. I just asked the operater who CBE is and they could not even tell me that.    YOU.. YOU are the enemy .. I hope you can sleep at night

        You are so wrong in that.  I have been contacted by collection companys before, only to be ridiculed and even had one say" you should be ashamed of yourself, being a law enforcement officer and not paying your debt." If that is just doing your job then you people need to find another one. It is nothing personal with y'all and y'all need to get a grip. Leave your personal affairs out of it and do your job right, if you can't handle it QUIT.

        Ok, you got to be kidding, you are not serious about what you just said. Did you review your comment before you posted it. In this time and age, with the economy the way it is, when you as a collector call someone to say, "THIS ACCOUNT HAS COME TO MY DESK FOR COLLECTION "  and are you ready to make payment arrangements to settle this account. REALLY do you honestly think, if I had the money YOU COLLECTORS offer as a settlement agreement I would've just payed it off before it got to your office don't you think.  HELLO and you honestly think that agents don't belittle people, get ugly, ask yourself this, put yourself in there shoes, they're explaining to you what happened and why that debt went to collections, but all you want to hear is what are we willing to do to settle the account. If we could pay it we would of, get a real job and quit acting like your not in the same boat. These companies hire dead beats who don't want to really work and just sit in a air conditioned cubicle and harasse people when they're down on their luck.   HOPE THIS SINKS IN ANNON

        Maybe you should get a real F*****g job A$$ H@LE.  First off what is this automated crap? Just because I have the same name as some poor [***] that has an overdue debt does not give your company any right to call me.  How do you associate my phone number to a debt from a state I have never even been in let alone been a resident.  You may want to use some detective work like GOOGLE before you invade my life.

        Bs! If you work for a company that harasses people and you are party to that then you deserve to be cussed out! Go back to school, learn a skill besides sitting on your rear and waiting for automatic phone dialer to connect to people you are going to shake down for money. Cbe group is a company without ethics and anyone who works for them is a pos in my opinion. You want respect? Get a respectable job.
