Under CA law is is harassment to call someone repeatedly and not say anything (silence to intimidate).

This company (319) 274-1902 called my home several times per week for 2 weeks.  When I or my wife answered the call there was no response - just silence.  Finally I had had enough and called back.  I asked immediately for them to stop calling me and to put me on their do not call list.  I was told they don't have a do not call list and then I was asked if "Valentina Johnson" lived here.  I told them no and tried to tell them how upset I was with them but they just said "all you have to say is its a wrong number."  Nonsense, they were clearly calling to get hold of this Valentina (my wife's name is Johnson and first name starts with V but not Valentina) and they were not going to say antything but keep calling until someone with the right accent answered the phone or someone called them back.  Silence being used to intimidate.  And they were targeting anyone with a name similar to this Valentina Johonson.

These guys need to be put out of business.

    I am getting calls from them for the last 2 weeks, but I do not owe anyone..first time they called was about a bank account i cancelled due to bogus charges on my account.  I paid that 4 years ago.  Now i'm getting harassed by them. Now the calls are all silent since the first one, which I explained that it had been paid years ago.  Get one every day that is just silent.

    This debt collector does not try to" harass" the wrong people(or anyone for that matter), they call numbers trying to reach someone and if they knew it was a wrong number they would remove it(there's no reason to call someone you can't collect from, are some of you serious?), so answer your phone if you want the calls to stop. (I wonder how many are enraged by this statement... that would be my target audience).

    If they fail to remove it the first time just ask them again, it's likely a bona fide error.  That means it is accidental or technology related.  The person on the other end is just like you with their own life and problems.  They don't know you and don't care or have the time to purposefully harass you.

    Stop acting like a child and throwing a fit.  And like Pavlov's dog, many posters here have been conditioned to respond to their phone ringing as a queue for anger.  Perhaps my mere mention of the fact that some of you have gotten to this stage, rather than spending your time more wisely attempting to communicate, will have its benefit.

    On the debts themselves... bankers are predatory by nature and the government allows them to be.  You're going to complain about a necessary organization that arises in such an environment?  Morons.  You people think that cutting a limb will down the tree?  Have some common decency and learn how to treat people better before you complain about how you're being treated.

      I have never had the Dish T.V. nor have I ever had Verizon. And my name is not Spanish. And I tell you, you have the wrong number. But you keep calling me anyways, that's not harassment? Bona fide error my ass. Let's call a spade a spade. It's harassment. What they do is pass your number to the next Schmuck to try his luck. Do you think over night I'm going to become Mexican? It becomes a pain in the ass to have to explain time after time your not that person. What's the criteria for being a debt collector? I'm guessing you have to be deaf and dumb! So you can save your high horse attitude for someone who is buying what your trying to sell.

      When you say "stop calling me," they should have the "common decency" to stop calling. Apparently CBE does not stop calling. Have you not read the majority of these posts???? They are calling numbers and being told they have the wrong number and continue to call. Moron.

      And they obviously have time on their hands if they sit around and listen to recordings of each other being cursed out as one collector posted.

    Im annoyed as well cuz I HAVE answered and get silence... If ur gonna blow my phone up atleast be on the other end. My calls just began and strangely enough it began at the same time my stepsons mom got a job...were not on good terms as we have custody since she lost  him to foster care TWICE ..... Idk where she got a Job BUT the only job she's evr had... And has NVR kept a job any more than 2mo at a time  but her last jobs have been call center jobs. And we've had the same issues everytime she's had a job.... Thankfully she hasn't had many jobs so its not constant but its really annoying when it does happen

    The people that are hired to make calls and collect are really customer care associates. They are performing the job hired to do. The issue is that the customers of CBE are companies that are ready to write the debt off anyways. The phone associate does not realize that they cannot take our blood, our credit is trashed for reasons beyond our control and by being overly aggressive is going to not get them what they want either. It's just very simple, and by offering some solutions, it might be a win win. CBE cannot pay their bills if the debtors can't or won't pay. There is a freedom one gains when they have nothing left to loose. Unsecured debts are hard to collect on. Yes, make marks on credit and hurt us on attaining jobs. Seems very smart behavior and another one bites the dust for collecting on. Really easy these days to block calls or simply hang up.

      The block call no work good because have many plone numbers and hang up is not the solution.
      we don't know why this company are calling to us asking with wrong name. we don't have debts.
      We are in this problem for long time maybe 8 month or more.

    I had business with CBE and they have great associates. They follow of FDCPA rules, never have I gotten a call after 9 pm. Also when I called them they close @ 9 so I don't believe they're the collection agency that called you. When they call and you tell them it's a wrong number they are not allowed to call you anymore also if you people answered your phone you'd realize they are just trying to help you not harass you, they per FDCPA are allowed to call every 3 hrs. Come on people learn your rules/laws. Also don't buy [***] you can't afford, and continue making payments morons.

      Nice of you to call people morons for buying s*** they can't afford.  You stated you had business with CBE which is a debt collections agency.  Sooo......what is that saying about you that you are doing business with a debt collections agency trying to collect a debt on s*** that you can't afford and didn't pay????

    If you dont owe and get collection calls answer them let them know is wrong person to stop calling cease and desist and they will,  the problem is that most of time customer dont answer OR DONT CALL BACK  and collector will asume that iT could be a good contact number.  If you owe $ and are in a hardship check options available if can do something about it. If cant do, if cant pay justify the reason why and request a cease and desist know your rights and remember that some legal action can take place against collection debt's ACCOUNTS.  Be human I'm a 3rd pty collector have exellent credit DONT HAVE ACCOUNTS IN COLLECTIONS but get collection CALLS LOOKING FOR OTHER INDIVIDUALS and telemarketing calls UNDERSTAND THAT TELEPHONE NUMBERS RECYCLE.  PLEASE UNDERSTAND COLLECTORS ARE HUMANS TOO TRYING TO MAKE THEIR LIVING, AND WE CANT YELL SCREAM AND CURSE TO CUSTOMER AS CUSTOMER OR OTHERS DO TO US.

    Listen I keep getting mail sent to my address where I've lived for over a year. The resident who lived at this address before me passed away. I tried to contact CBE Group to inform them of his passing. But I got no response. But the mail for the previous tenant keeps coming like clockwork. Now I'm pissed. And when I call, I get nothing but idiots wanting me to supply them with a cert. of death. That aint my job. I just would like the mail from them stopped. Do I think that will happen, I dought it

      Whenever you receive correspondence from someone who doesn't reside at the address.. simply write RETURN TO SENDER on the mail and leave it on your mailbox for your postal worker... they will return it to the company and they will mark the file as mail return or bad address and this will cease all written communication.

    I work at cbe and we don't actually dial the numbers, they come through to our computer, a computer system monitors call timing and frequency since the law states we can call every 2 hrs, but cbe lengthens that to every 3 hrs. Although some people are in multiple dept. So they might get multiple calls from each dept. If you don't want us to call please just listen for a name and say wrong number or call in and tell us, we honestly push a button saying "wrong number" and let me say, the nicer you are to us the more pleasant we will be, we will go around the world to help if you are pleasant. Why be rude to someone who is just doing what they are told?

    These morons are relentless, but so are we!!  They have called from CBE Group in Iowa and the Diversified Consultants Inc. in Florida.  We spoke directly with the FTC and we were sent paperwork to complete & return to our Atty. Gen.  They have now called on a Saturday and isn't that ILLEGAL for collection agencies to do????  Under the impression that it was Monday through Friday, ONLY!!!  These dang companies should be run out of town on a one-way rail!!!  Their latest calls aren't coming from the 319 area code (Iowa), but are now coming from a 210-446-3149 or 210-446-3145.   Everytime we check a phone# on reverse telephone # , all the numbers have come up "cell phone" ~ medium to high spam!!!   Be careful with these morons, they just "crawled out from under a rock"!!!

    Worked at Cbe. Sometimes they do harrass people. Sometimes they are shady. Say you have an attorney and they can no longer call you. Its illegal

    So these people call four times a day at least.  Never speak never leave messages.  Now they just woke up my son who is recovering from surgery because they called at 11:30 p.m.  Well after the 9 o'clock rule.  So reporting them.
