Under CA law is is harassment to call someone repeatedly and not say anything (silence to intimidate).

This company (319) 274-1902 called my home several times per week for 2 weeks.  When I or my wife answered the call there was no response - just silence.  Finally I had had enough and called back.  I asked immediately for them to stop calling me and to put me on their do not call list.  I was told they don't have a do not call list and then I was asked if "Valentina Johnson" lived here.  I told them no and tried to tell them how upset I was with them but they just said "all you have to say is its a wrong number."  Nonsense, they were clearly calling to get hold of this Valentina (my wife's name is Johnson and first name starts with V but not Valentina) and they were not going to say antything but keep calling until someone with the right accent answered the phone or someone called them back.  Silence being used to intimidate.  And they were targeting anyone with a name similar to this Valentina Johonson.

These guys need to be put out of business.

    I am getting regular hang-up calls from CBE even though I have no past-due debts and never have. The one time I did not identify myself I got connected to a person and never heard of the person they named. But the calls keep coming, from different numbers. I did file a complaint with the FTC, and will contact my attorney general next. I am sending a certified letter to CBE tomorrow.

    You need to get a life, go to school and get a real job!! Don't tell me how I can answer my phone when you or your constitutes call. I have every right to know who you are when I ask, not for any of you to tell me you can't even explain who or what the company is. Word to the wise if you have a job doing this learn people skills!, how to respectively  comunicate with this may help you I getting a real job...don't call and demand a thing. Here is an example...hi, this is xxxxxx I am calling from cbe which is a 3rd party collecting agency. Guess what if you can't even explain the company you work for and your afraid to say what work why your calling for   GET A REAL JOB AND STOP CRYING, until then properly speak to people ....go get the money all us taxpayers payed to bail out all these banks who don't give a dam and just want to rape people with interest! Go get a bail out from the government ....if you don't like these comments, don't post your sorry fealings here

      under the fdcpa it is illegal to reveal that CBE is a collection agency. so you will continue to get "Is this XXXXX? and XXXXX do you still live at YYYYY? until you have verified that you are the debtor the collector cannot give out any specific details such as the collector being a debt collector. you'll continue getting "personal business matter" or something vague like that. That is for the debtor's protection. Dont need anyone giving out other's personal info. Now in reference to your "go to school" comment the word is spelled *feelings*

        Or you could [***] off. It's damn right irritating and he/she is allowed to be angry. Targeting the employee's intelligence isn't the most pc thing to do, but it still holds true that the employees are generally uneducated [***].

        Well the idiots at this number left a message on my phone saying CBE DEBT COLLECTION.  Trouble is, I do not owe any debts and they had no idea whose phone they were calling.

    Eddie, I to have been recieving phone calls from this CBE Group on my home phone and my cell phone, I have no idea who they are or what they want!  I kept getting missed calls with their number, I didn't know who the number belonged to so I called it and got their name.  They would not say what they wanted or who they were except to just repeat the name of the company!  I had to look them up on the internet to even find out what they do!  I too, do not have any outstanding debts that would possibly go to collections!  I have good credit and don't know what the heck these people are calling for.  Can you tell me if  you complaint stopped the phone calls?  They claim to have sent me letters, which I have never gotten, but again would not tell me WHY they are calling, they wanted ME to give them my social security number and address and such, whic I refused to do!

    OK ANON!!!!  Here is my response, I have been getting lots and lots of calls from a company that refuses to tell me what they want or what the company even does, they ask me to give them my personal info so they could verify who I am, I told them I do not give out my personal info to someone I don't know!  The lady I spoke with would only tell me the name of the company but not that the company is a collection agency, I found that info on the internet.  AND I DO NOT OWE any money that would be subject to collections!!  I could not find out any information about what this call was about, and since I now know it is a collection agency, I don't know who the company that says I owe money is and could not get this info from them!!  I am disabled and have trouble getting to the phone, so remember THIS when you call someone's house. A very long long time ago when I was very young, I had some dealings with a collection agency, but they were nothing like this place, they actually were very professional!  I told this company to stop calling me that I am putting them on notice and I am on a do not call list, she said they don't have any lists, so they cannot stop calling me!  So I will be making formal complaints to whomever I need to to get this company to stop harrassing me.

IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE THAT DID SOMETHING , ANYTHING THAT STOPPED THEIR NITEMARE CALLS , CAN YOU PLEASE TELL US HOW YOU DID IT SO WE CAN MOVE ALONG AND STOP THIS AND TO STOP THIS BECAUSE  WITH THAT CALL (S) MY DAY IS SHOT TO HELL. , PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I

        CBE calls me 7 times a day starting at 8:06 and ending at 8.58. Been doing this for 6 months.  I NEVER answer my phone any more. I just let it ring and go to voice mail. Then I get my camera and take a photo of the screen on my phone.  Then I print out all the photos (which shows the phone number, the day and time on the phone display .... so they can't dispute it.  I plan to contact  the Texas Attorney General with my proof of their harassment.  I make it a game. The more they call, the more evidence I have against them.  SWEEEEEET!

      I just got a call from these people. (930am) They gave me a number of 866-895-4766. They asked for my husband and gave our old address before we changed to the NEW 911 system in our area.  They did not have our correct NEW address so I knew this had to be something from way back.  We did owe debt way back, but eventually  paid it ALL off and are debt free. I can not figure why they would be calling.  When I told them my husband was not here and asked if I could take a message and what this was concerning, the guy said he was not at liberty to discuss this with me that he had to get permission from my husband before talking with me. He also would not tell me what CBE Group was, he said CBE was not an acronym, that CBE was the real name of the group.  We have never received a call from them before in our life, and now all of a sudden we are getting calls..WTH.

That is for the debtor's protection. Dont need anyone giving out other's personal info. Now, the do not call this does not apply here because CBE is not a telemarketer. Many times people believe they dont owe anything, but in fact there will be something that has slipped through the cracks and they dont realize it until a year later they check their credit and it has turned for the worse. CBE is a respectable collection agency that treats debtor's with respect as opposed to other agencies which will legitimately harrass debtors.

        I would have to disagree with the part about them treating debtors with respect.  I have received 3 phone calls from CBE, the first I had never heard of them and they were asking for the last 4 of my SS# and my address.  I told them that I don't give that over the phone and they said they wouldn't be able to talk to me anymore.  About a month later, I received another call from them, this time they had the information that all I had to do was verify and I told them that I was not able to make any payments until the beginning of the month when i would get my pay check.  I also requested to be mailed a copy of the bill that they claim I owed and was told they sent one when they first got the order to collect and could not send any more.  So I told them to call me on the 1st (which was about a week and a half away) and i would see what I could do at that time.  Two days later I got another call from them, at this time I actually got upset and told them to make sure to read the notes on the case before harrassing customer.  So no they don't always treat anyone with respect.  And of course at the beginning of the month they didn't call like I had requested, so they must not want money for the alleged debt.

    I have started to recieve calls from the CBE Group, they never leave a message, but over the past several days they have called my home phone about 6 times and my cell phone about 4.  I didn't recognize the phone number and so called to see who was so adamantly calling!  Especially my cell phone, which I do not give out.  When I called, they wanted me to give them my personal info like my address, social security number, date of birth,etc.  I told them I DO NOT give out information to people or companies that I do not know.  She would only tell me that she is with the CBE Group, but would not tell me what she was calling about or anything.  She said they have been sending me letters and haven't I gotten the letters (NO, I have not gotten any letters). I found out they are a collection agency by looking them up on the internet.  I DO NOT OWE ANY DEBTS THAT WOULD BE WITH A COLLECTION AGENCY!!!  Any bills that I have are all fully paid on time and I couldn't even find out what company they are saying that I owe money to.  I told them I am on a do not call list, she said they don't have do not call lists, I told her to take my name and phone number off of her calling list and again she said she doesn't have a "calling list" which clearly she does, because they keep calling me!  Again, I don't owe anyone anything that would be in collections, so I don't know why they are calling me, but I will do whatever I need to do to stop these calls!

    Even though my cell phone is not listed to the person they are calling about they keep calling it and eating my minutes...where can I file a complaint!

        Answer the phone, tell them that you have no idea who they are calling for.  Tell them to remove you from their list.  If they do not do so you will report them for harassment.  Boom done!
