TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

Top loaders have them, too.  Whoever thought we'd have to put up with this as everything else had progressed.

I found the solution to my holes in my shirts,The agitator has a small hole in it to I believe to let air out as the washer fills with water. The hole was very sharp around the edges, used a drill bit to smooth the edges and no more holes in me clothes.

I am soooo happy to hear that I am not going crazy! First I thought that we had a MOTH problem in the house. I put up stinky moth balls all over the house thinking that will take care of the problem with the little holes in my clothes! Then, I thought it was a dryer until few minutes ago when I was moving clothes from the washer to the dryer to find my shirt shredded !!!! I am fuming to say the least! Monday I am getting on the phone and starting to make some noise!!!!

Same problem. Bought my set on March 19, 2011. The problem started after a few months. It started by only being one or two items, now it is every load and several items of clothing..  I have started putting everything in large mesh laundry bags. I use at least two laundry bags & fill them about 1/4 full. It helps a little but I wonder how clean my clothes are getting. I have had a service man out 4 times, today he told me to contact Whirlpool and have them send me new parts and that it will cost me at least another $200.00 to have him put the new parts on. I called Whirlpool and told them that the service man said I need a new tub both inner and outer tubs. The customer service representative said I need to have the service man call them. Sounds like another run around.

I have the same problem with my Whirlpool washer, at first I thought the dryer was ripping or melting my clothes, but it's the washer. First my favorite shirt and then all my daughters new materity clothes. It's getting to expensive to replace all the clothes that have been ruined, cheaper to toss the lemon of a washer and go with a different brand. I'm so diappointed in Whirlpool, will never buy that brand again.

I have the same problems that is noted here.  I notice holes in my cloths and I could not understand where they were coming from until I realized it was my whirlpool washing.  I don't have warranty on the machine and I refuse to spend any money so I am just going to replace but will never get another whirlpool washer again.

Bought the Whirlpool Cabrio washer in 2009 with the top load glass lid.  Had to replace the lid as the glass pulled away from the frame.  Now 6 months later it is doing the same thing only now the lid won't stay up while loading the washer and I can see where the same problem is in the making.  Called Whirlpool and they want to send a repairman out at my cost because of their poor workmanship!  I have already put money into this garbage washer that doesn't even get my clothes clean.  I will never buy another Whirlpool ANYTHING!  My last washer was a Kenmore and lasted well beyond 20 yrs...wish I had it back because it would do a much better job than this one does being only 4 yrs.old!  HORRIBLE...DON"T BUY THIS BRAND  no matter what!  NO VALUE AT ALL! And dealing with these ppl is a total waste of time!

I blamed my teenage daughter for the holes that occasionally appeared in our clothes-told her she was overloading the machine, closing the door on clothes, etc. Now she's at college and clothes are coming out with holes almost every time I do a load. I can't believe it took me at least three years to google the problem, and now I see it's my Whirlpool Duet! I've even had repairmen out a few times for the drain hose issue, but I was so busy blaming my poor daughter-it never occurred to me it was the fault of the appliance. What should I do?

I am also experiencing this same problem.  I bought the machine in June 2010.  The problem started at least 2-4 months ago.  I know for a fact it is the washing machine as I wash cloth diapers and hang dry them.  I take them out and they are ripped/torn.  I would say I have had at least $100 worth of ripped clothes/cloth diapers.

Knew a guy once that bought a car that was a lemon, couldn't get help from dealership, finally called and told them he had called the newspaper to come & film him because the next day at 5:00, he had a bulldozer coming to his house & was going to bury the car on live TV! That's a true story! They gave him another car the next day.

We too purchased a Whirlpool front load washer approx. 3-4 years ago.  Worst decision we ever made!  So far we've lost 2 tank tops, 2 sweatshirts and a pair of underwear.  I've tried everything.....small loads, put clothes I don't want it to "eat" in garment bags.  It's frustrating to say the least.  I've been doing laundry for over 30 years so it's not due to a lack of knowing how to do a load of laundry.  Just last night it destroyed my husbands work sweatshirt which appeared to be brand new.  UGH!  As I am reading all the complaints on here it is clear that Whirlpool does not care about having repeat customers and I'm not going to pay for a repair person to come and "pretend" to fix a problem that seems unfixable.  The reason I picked a Whirlpool washer is because I owned a Whirlpool refrigerator, as a matter of fact (nock on wood) it still works perfectly and it's 20 years old.  Must have been back when they cared about the products they sold.  I will be filing a complaint with the BBB.  As we all know money doesn't grow on trees and my laundry is piling up because I'm afraid to send my clothes into that death trap!

Our Duet is around four years old and been ripping cloths apart every since we had it, putting delicates in a garnet bag USED to work, but now it is just tearing up even jeans and leaving marks on towels and everything, it is a piece of crap and we will definitely NOT get another whirlpool.  I am literally scared to put clothes in it - off to the laundry mat I go

Our whirlpool duet is also "eating" our clothes!  Bought boys new PJ for Christmas and the washer "ate" them!  VERY disappointed in the  whirlpool brand.  I also can't wait until I can get rid of it!  Won't buy another whirlpool ever!

SOOO very frustrated with my Whirlpool Duet.  It just continues to "Eat" our clothes.  Why isn't there a class action lawsuit for this?  I paid entirely too much for this washer for it to continuously ruin my clothes.

This product is ripping up all of my family's clothes.  This product needs to be recalled.  Even after the drum was fixed, the new drum eventually started doing the same thing.

I agree with kshrumster. I just write the the Company after getting several ripped bellows and clothes with holes too many times.to count. Since my dryer is on top of the machine I can't even get a maintenance person to come change the bellow anymore bc it's too much work taking the machine off the top just to open the front. I have also had several baby socks stuck in the filter. So difficult to open the front panel if you have machines stacked.
I think if a class action suit is in need. I can't afford to even buy the below at this time never mind a maintenance person to fix it. If I don't get a satisfactory response I think class action suit is the next step.

I also purchased a Whirlpool Front loader washing machine in 2010. The first  6months I had no problems, then I began noticing holes in some of my clothes and thought it was my dryer, after having socks getting sucked in the drain and the rubber around the door ripping and the water not draining from the washer, I called the repair man, he told me the ripped clothers were because I was putting to big a load in the washer. So I did smaller loads, same thing, after having my favorite sweater ripped to shreds, I called it quits. I purchased an LG top loader, and it is the best wsahing machine I have ever owned, it's quieter, I can do a king size comforter in it, and it washes the clothes beautifully.
I will never recommed Whirlpool to anyone ever. I'm very disappointed in their service and their product.
