TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

This is [***]! Our whirlpool washer is ripping tons of clothes now it's even destroyed brand new military uniforms, and those are not cheap! Hell no I don't want an extended warranty! Why would I give whirlpool any more of my money, my machines are only 2 yrs old and these holes in clothes started appearing probably a year ago but now the problem is becoming more frequent! I originally thought it was the dryer burning clothes until I saw holes in clothes as I pulled them from the wash! I had an old whirlpool washer maybe a 2000 model and never had any problems with it. I think whirlpool needs to recall these machines and give everyone their money back plus money for clothes they've destroyed! Thanks for supporting your troops whirlpool!! Oh that's sarcasm by the way!

I agree with you. This has been happening with us too. Our machine is only 1 year old and we have the same problem. We called repair men to check our machine and they told us we that it was the manufacturing problem and they do not cover the expense. They told us that we had to fix the problem by paying with our own money, which we did not want to do. I agree that they should recall the machines and give us our money back.

This is the worst washing machine ever.  This is the first time we had ever bought the matching pair.  This machine broke within the first year we had it.  The rubber seal tore completely off.  It cost $385.00 to get it fixed.  The man who fixed it also said he would be surprised if the washer lasted another 6 months.  The washer is now ripping huge holes in at least 3 or 4 huge holes in 3 to 4 items every time we wash a load of clothes.  So now I can expect that half of my clothes will be torn to shreds every time I gamble and do a load of laundry.  I would never!!!!! recommend a Maytag product to anyone.  this washer has been the most expensive appliance we have ever bought and has been horrible.   I would like for them to repay me for all MY clothes that this washer has torn up!!!!

I bought a Whirlpool Duet and started having the same problem - Cloths ripping. I have lost several articles of clothing. Changed the Rubber tubing in front of the drum, but still the same problem. This is so shocking that so many people are having the same problem and Whirlpool has done nothing to fix this design problem. I am to the point of just throwing this machine out and buying a top loader (not whirlpool). My machine is pretty new. Is anyone aware of a class action lawsuit against Whirlpool

Class action is not a bad idea if these issues aren't resolved!  I would be very interested in that.

we bought our duet washer in march 2010 and Our clothes are getting ripped and torn. Some days back a rubber ring came out, most probably it is called GASKET. And today I noticed there is a hole in front droor seal which is leaking water on the floor. I called some appliances guy and he said it would be expensive fix like $300-450.

I don't understand why whirlpool team does not come forward to fix this cloth tearing issue?

    This washer sucks!!!

I am having the same problem, cloths ripping everyone and then but no idea of the cause and the fix reading the several posts here, the solution I can see here on this post is set the washer to Medium and not overload with cloths.

We bought whirl pool washer and dryer in 2007 and started having problem of cloths ripping last 3 years and when we had warranty the rep could not find any issues and now we are out of warranty

I would really appreciate any solution other then the above which guarantees to the solution.

I actually have a repairman here now to fix my Duet Sport washer. The belt is broken and the motor is not working. However, that will still not fix my "HOLEY" laundry problem. I have had to throw out hundreds of dollars of clothing that has come out of the washer with holes in it. Yes, the holes are all around the bottom front of thin cotton shirts. I buy good clothing - expensive clothing - that is being torn to shreds! I nearly had a nervous breakdown the last time I took clothes out of the washer, which I had washed on the delicate cycle by the way, and saw holes again! As of now, I am hand washing my things in the sink. What fun, especially when I have an expensive washing machine in my laundry room.  I would NEVER EVER buy thin brand again. However, I have read other complaints about similar problems with other brands of front loading machines. So, now what?????

I agree with all of these posts.  We bought our Whirlpool Duet washer in March, 2010 and the ripping commenced almost immediately.  I first thought it was just bad luck, but it seems as though a lot of people have this issue.  I never thought of calling a repairman because I've seen the costs in doing so.  I am very upset with this product and will never purchase whirpool again.  Terrible, Terrible, Terrible.

I have had this washer since fall of 2010.  I had problems with it ripping clothes from the beginning.  I did also have a drain error, where they found some socks in the drain.  (Fortunately it was still under warranty).  To avoid the ripping, I now put most of my clothes in a mesh laundry bag before I put them in the washer.  It is a pain in the a$$, but, I haven't had clothes rip since I started doing that.  (I also put the spin speed on medium).  If it ever gets to the point of having to dole out money for a repair, forget it, I will buy a new (non Whirlpool) machine before I pay for any repair.  VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!  I can't believe this issue hasn't been resolved by whirlpool with all the complaints out there.

Hi Jayne, Coral, Dana West, Sammy, Chrisi, Reno, Miram, Michelle, Matt, Stacey, & Sheri.  We are sorry to learn about the concerns you have experienced with your washer.  It does help to turn the spin cycle down from high to medium, and put less clothing in the basket at one time.  Using a less aggressive cycle will also help the clothing as well.  Using an old cloth, feel the inside of the basket for rough spots and any areas that the cloth catches on.  That will help to determine the next step you will need to take.  If you still need assistance, please provide your name, the user ID name I am using to address you now, your address, phone number, full model and serial number of the washer, and email to Whirlpool.Digital@whirlpool.com.  Sincerely, Melanie.

Same problem with Whirlpool Duet Washer putting small holes in my wife's tops, always in the front and toward the bottom of the cotton shirts, hundred's of dollars worth of shirts ruined by this machine.  Machine is 2 years old and just gave up on it.  Bought a new Samsung top loader and had that perfectly good looking expensive Whirlpool machine carted off to the junk yard, tired of the problems.
