TERRIBLE! Bought the washer in December of 2010. We began finding holes in clothes in March of 2011. We found that we had a small crack in our dryer. After trying to fix it ourself, the crack came back. So, we replaced the dryer. After we replaced the dryer, we began to find MORE holes in clothes. It was NOT the dryer causing the holes, but our DUET Whirlpool washer. We had several drain error instnances as well. We have had the service repair man out several times for the drain error problem. Ranging from a Mardi Gras bead in the drain pump, to several baby socks to a large adult tube sock. I'd say it's been at least 7 times. We had finally had enough of our clothes, which I would estimate to be at LEAST $500 worth of clothing, the service repair man said he had never seen anything like it. This was in November of 2011. They said they would replace the tub and drum system but it would take several weeks to get the part in, which took us past our warrantee. After numerous complaints, Whirlpool offered the best they could do was extend our warrantee 6 additional months. The first drum was broken upon delivery, so another would have to be ordered. There goes another week. Finally it came in. We were all but assured the problem would be fixed. TWO days later, same drain error code! 3 more socks caught in the drain pump! Took the socks out myself after watching them do it so I didn't have to call them out again and pay the fee. Next day...MORE HOLES in clothes! Call and they say they can't get a service guy out for at least a week! This is all during the Christmas and New Year's holidays! January 9th the service repair man comes and says, yep, it's the same problem. We need to replace the tub and drum AGAIN! The part would be guaranteed to be in by Friday, January 13th! Guess what? Today I get a call...the parts are on BACKORDER and it won't be until January 24th until they can become available!! Seriously...SERIOUSLY??!! I have a family of 6...me, my wife, a 8 year old girl, a 7 year old girl, and 5 year old boy and an 18 month old girl. The piles upon piles of laundry are limitless waiting for empty promises. In the meantime, we have had to wash essential clothes (school clothes, socks, underwear, etc.) at laundromats, and friends and other family members' houses. Whilpool doesn't give a care about ANY of our problems. I come from a HUGE family, as does my wife. Together, we probably have 100 family members. I will crusade against Whirlpool for any and ALL appliances if this matter is NOT fixed and their customer service is not better!

We bought our Whirlpool Duet Dryer in Feb 2010 and by the Summer of 2011, our clothes were being ripped, so I called HH Gregg where we bought our machine and have a warranty.  I was then set up with A&E Factory Service.  They came out and "fixed" it, but a month later, our clothes were being ripped again.  I called again and they said they would have to replace the bulk head and drum, so I threw a fit when they came back to replace it and not all the parts came in.  I argued with A&E and HH Gregg and finally got my money back from HH Gregg after a lot of threats.  We went to Lowes and bought the same model but the Duet with Steam option...thinking the other was just a lemon and wanted a dryer to match our Whirlpool Duet Washer in December 2011...within one month it was being ripping clothes and was repaired...July 2012, it started ripping clothes again and the bulk head and drum was replaced...now a month later, ripping our clothes again, so now Whirlpool said A&E must see the dryer again and decide if they want to replace it or not...I am beyond [***] pissed.  I am out of so much money replacing clothes.  Why can't Whirlpool just recall these damn awful machines...the sad part is we just purchased all new Whirlpool kitchen appliances and a new Whirlpool water softner.  I am pissed.

I am having the exact same problem! And the repair man said he cant fix it because even if he replaced the door seal which is the problem that the actual washer door doesnt push the clothes back far enough and they fall in the crack and tear. Its a defective door design. To top it all off i spent extra to have a steam dryer and the steam function broke and just blows water into my dryer constantly and is going to cost the same amount as a new dryer to fix.  Oh did I mention I'm 6 months past my warrant expiring.  Convenient huh?

I, too have this problem. So far, 2 items of clothing. Had a new pair of heavy workout tights that came out of the machine with one leg shredded. And, the gasket has been replaced once already. Very frustrated!!

we never had problems with the washer/dyer producing holes in our clothes.. Now we do thanks to our Maytag we purchased last year.   All of our clothes have holes in them thanks to this stupid machine. I would not recommend this machine to anyone not wanting to have unwanted holes in their garments.

We have had a whirlpool duet washer and dryer set for a couple years. I just recently, in the past few months have noticed holes in EVERYTHING! I literally thought we had a mouse somewhere eating holes in our clothes. Then, I checked my clothes before I put them in , when they came out, 2 shirts had holes in them...ruined. My email is: rachwagner1@hotmail.com   I am considering starting a class action suit for this if Whirlpool does not replace for free. anyone interested, let me know!

Very interested in joining a class action suit with you.  Our front load whirlpool is not yet 3 years old and we are on our 4th new "boot".  You know it's time for a new one after your clothes are ruined.  Whirlpool wants to be very helpful.  For $363.00 they'll sell me an extended one year warranty.  The new boot is 85.00, the loss of all the clothes is in the hundreds.  What an insult as a solution to what is clearly a defective design.
Where is the integrity in that company?

Our machine is two months old and is already tearing holes in clothes.  It seems to tear holes in clothes that are of a thin material like football jerseys and shorts.  I just took a pair of my son's brand new (never worn) shorts out of the washer and one leg of them is tore off!

I  am embarrassed to say I like another individual noticed sma holes in my knit tops. I was aggravated but did not think too much. Now my machine is 22 months old and it's literally tearing my clothes to pieces! I will never again buy whirlpool and I think a class action suit is needed. It's about time we stand up and stop these companies from taking advantage of us and our hard earned money!!!!

I have also had my whirlpool set for over two years and it has ruined many clothing items. Some have small holes and others are completely ripped. I thought I was putting too much in the machine, but that is not the case. I decided finally tonight to check online to see if this has been a problem for others, and now I am upset that I waited so long to look into it.  I too agree that something should be done!

Add me to the list. My knit shirts get holes in the front bottom, and my sons long sleeve shirts get ripped on the same spot below the elbow on the sleeve. Has anyone figured out what exactly in the washer is causing the problem? Thanks for letting me vent.

Soooo tired of holes in clothes! It has ruined multiple shirts and 2 twin size comforters! We had the same issues with socks and finding other random things when the drain clogged, we use a small tide garment bag for all socks and underwear and double check all pockets. That issue we fixed ourselves but the holes weve had nothing but issues since the day we got our set and it was well i thought the wrong one they failed to tell me they discountinued the ones I originally orderd, the dryer knob had been broken off and taped in place the repair place they set up never came to fix it and after reporting the holes whilrpool has been nothing but unhelpful and now our warrenty is up. Spent a year calling on a reg basis and nothing was ever fixed!

OMG!  Same thing with my Duet!  I have lost LOTS of clothes to the DUET Hole Making Machine!!  I had the repair man in many times, but nothing improved.  I also have a flooding problem.  The first time this happened, the repair man came and simply pulled a sock out from between the drum and the wall.  He was in the house for 5 minutes and charged me $120!!  Since then, I have pulled out countless socks, found many torn articles of clothing, including a special shirt my husband bought in Africa.     All this to say....this machin is a piece of ...... you fill in the blank!!

Same issue here.  ruined so many clothes i could have bought a replacement if i had all that money back.  what a freaking joke.  trying to decide if it's design specific (ie front loaders in general) or this brand.  In the past i've been a fan of whirlpool but have since switched, they deserve some pain for this product.  anyone hear of a class action lawsuit somewhere?

We bought a refurbished machine from Lowe's back in August, and a used dryer of a different brand.  I blamed the dryer for the holes I found in things, but I started checking the clothing before they went in the dryer, and behold, the washer is to blame.  It seems like the problem is much worse for large loads.  I have started doing small loads every day instead of waiting and packing the machine full.  I haven't noticed holes in items in the small loads.  It is ridiculous that I have to do this, but the truth is we can't afford a new machine right now, so we have to make it work.  I think something should be done by Whirlpool, though.  Oh, and I also turned down the spin speed.

I'm having the same problem. I bought a whirpool duet and my clothes are coming out with holes in them. I contacted Whirpool and they said they could send someone out but it could cost me $129 just to have someone come out. Are you serious? This is NOT something I did. My washer is level I am making sure the loads are not over laoded. This is a defect in the washer. Amzaing how Whirpool will not fix this problem. My husband did get a letter in the mail about a class lawsuit against Whirpool before I called them. I will be looking into that since Whirpool is not doing anything to fix this problem that multiple people are having.

We are having the same problem with our Whirlpool Duet washing machine. We bought the machine two years ago and the clothes tearing problem began about 6 months ago. It has ruined hundreds of dollars worth of clothing and linens. Whirlpool told me I needed to have someone come out and check the washer but it costs a ton of money and after reading about everyone else problem it seems useless. I cannot believe after all these complaints that whirlpool is doing nothing! I have tried trouble shooting the issue but it seems like this is a defect and Whirlpool needs to do something about it! How do I become apart of the class lawsuit against Whirlpool?

We bought our washer in July of 2010.  I have noticed for probably the last year that our washer was completely ripping up some of our clothes.  I thought it was only happening if we put too much laundry in so I starting putting in less, which didn't help the problem.  I had been meaning to check if there were other people who had this issue and low and behold find page after page of the same complaints on the internet.  Some of the advise I have seen is to lower the spin speed but even when I wash my clothes on the delicate cycle they are still being torn.  I'm soo sick of it ruining my clothes.  I've also see that other people have had another issue that I had in which socks can get sucked up into the hose and you end up with water pouring out the front of your washer.  My husband has had to dismantle the machine twice to fix this issue.  I do still have a warranty although it doesn't sound like it's going to do any good unless Whirlpool replaces our washers or does something to fix the issue. I guess I'll start having Lowes come out all the dang time too look at it and maybe they'll get soo sick of all the complaints they'll get involved. I thought Whirlpool was a trusted name but I'm re-thinking that now.  I really wish someone would start another class action lawsuit against Whirlpool.  If they think the mold issue is bad, this is 100 times worse!!   LOTS OF MONEY WASTED!!!!

Lost a lot of really nice clothes :(
Lots of holes and tears in clothes.  Things get stuck in frame of the machine and gasket.  Called for a repair. Replaced the gasket.  Things get stuck still, more holes and tears.  If I was in "delicate" cycle, no problem so that is how I've been washing my clothes for months. A few days ago, a load of laundry needed a "clean" wash so I braved it, put it on eco heavy (though it was a medium size load) and...not only did the clothes get stuck, but ripped the gasket right off. Today, another repair man.  Will replace gasket and the door this time.  2 months ago, the current door is deemed defective and whirlpool put out a bulletin to replace the door.

Parts have to be ordered so I have to wait for the repair. Fingers crossed,
