LA Fitness NAMES/EMAILS/NUMBERS to cancel membership!!!

LA Fitness tells you the "ONLY" way you can cancel your membership is for you to physically go into the gym and they will print off cancellation forms, which you will have to mail out yourself.  I sent my cancellations forms almost 2 weeks prior to having them take out the monthly gym fees. I felt this gave them enough time to cancel at its entirety BUT that didn't happen. I was so aggravated with the run arounds. I finally was able to get names/emails/numbers of individuals at LA Fitness headquarters who can make sure your membership is cancelled.  I do have to say "Orlando Gonzalez" was extremely professional and very cordial. He immediately reassured my memberships would be cancelled AND he would make sure I was reimbursed for the monthly fee they had just taken out.  Here is the information:   Orlando Gonzalez  (949) 255-7277  orlandog@lafitness.com  and Aylin Medina (pronounced Eileen) (949) 255-7330  aylinm@lafitness.com

I was in a big mess when I figured out that the personal trainer at LA Fitness has enrolled me in a 12 month contract without disclosing the complete truth. You want to be careful when they say $150/month for 6 sessions and if you want to cancel, you pay 50% of the remaining sessions. Dont misunderstand that you will pay 50% of the 6 sessions in case you change your mind and cancel. Because what the trainer would not disclose is "12-months". So you will end up paying 50% of all the 12 months in case you want to buy out your contract. Also, dont forget to ask about the cost for freezing your personal training account (usually $15) which he did not disclose to me when explaining me the terms. He also did not tell me, I have 3 business days to cancel after I sign the agreement if for some reason I want to cancel the contract. I would give all the credit to one person - Catalina Rodriguez at the corporate who help me in getting out of it when I emailed Mr. Orlando Gonzalez. My email was forwarded to her as Mr. Gonzalez was out of state. I would say go to her and I guarantee she will find a way out if you telling the truth. She got me out of the contract with the amount of loss my pocket can bear. Her email - catalina.rodriguez@lafitness.com

Irony in our names huh! Anyway, I had the same problem.  I was so mad I could spit.  My problem was that the personal trainers kept cancelling on me and then they would schedule me for days I could not attend - "We're sorry, those are the only days/times we have available."  Anyway when the day came that both my beautiful daughter (BMI 26% & 18 yo) and I (MUCH larger and older) asked to make two appointments - I asked for Sunday - "We are sorry, we don't have any appointments available on Sunday, how about Wednesday?"  Me - I can't make Wednesday - them "That is all we have" Me - OK, I will try to make it.  To my daughter "How about you?" Her: "I can come in any time."  Them:  "How about Sunday?"  I blew a gasket and cancelled.  It cost me nearly $400.00 and another months worth of dues.

The same thing happend and I spoke with Catalina. She told me I should have read the contract. Crazy thing was that the person signing me up said the contract was what he was telling me verbally and just to sign there. She didn't care that I was lied to, she wasn't allowing me to cancel. :( Orlando told me I had to pay my contract off. Wow. They lie and then haha in your face you can't back out of it to you. :(

You were not lied to, you did not read the contract. It's there in writing, you should not have signed it.

your a  moron,  lying to people to get them to sign a contract is a pretty common thing,  just look at military recruiters...  Unfortunately you can't sue the military,  but a business can be sued.  if you have any proof that they used this high pressure sales tactic on you,  making a verbal contract contrary to the written one, then it's grounds to have the contract thrown out.

Paying a little cash as a lesson to teach people to actually read what they sign is pretty light as lessons go though,  they could have signed up for Hawaii and ended up in Fort Leonard Wood for 4 years.

This kind of thing happens with a lot of gyms,  people should really start writing their senators and congressmen.

I was not lied about the contract but, here is what happened,
I told I cannot afford $60.00 per 25 minutes session and six sessions a month, then the price came down to $45.00, plus a $99.00 initiation fee which gives you few additional free sessions.
I said due to the nature of my job and family situations I may not be able to get into a 12 month contract,
I was told that a monthly contract is twice as expensive, I said lets drop the idea, I am happy with normal membership.
Personal Training director insisted on a 12 month contract and suggested that I can simply cancel my credit card and forget about the contract.
You might wonder how in this world a professionally trained LA fitness manager suggesting cancelling the credit card account,
It happened, they got me sign it same day, insisting, confusing, convincing, they do everything in this world to get you sign the Personal Training, that is where they make their living.
In a country where people search for bargains in every darn thing, do you think someone a commoner would simply sign a $40.00 per 25 minutes agreement for 12 months!!!!

In that moment, LA fitness guys will do everything in their capacity to get you signed, lies(Partially)  are part of the game.

          BEWARE!!!!

This also just happened to me.  I feel so stupid--I ALWAYS read the fine print, but like you all, I was lied to.  I was told I'd be able to cancel at any time.  I can't believe I didn't think to ask if there would be some enormous fee.  I could cry I am so upset.
