LA Fitness NAMES/EMAILS/NUMBERS to cancel membership!!!

LA Fitness tells you the "ONLY" way you can cancel your membership is for you to physically go into the gym and they will print off cancellation forms, which you will have to mail out yourself.  I sent my cancellations forms almost 2 weeks prior to having them take out the monthly gym fees. I felt this gave them enough time to cancel at its entirety BUT that didn't happen. I was so aggravated with the run arounds. I finally was able to get names/emails/numbers of individuals at LA Fitness headquarters who can make sure your membership is cancelled.  I do have to say "Orlando Gonzalez" was extremely professional and very cordial. He immediately reassured my memberships would be cancelled AND he would make sure I was reimbursed for the monthly fee they had just taken out.  Here is the information:   Orlando Gonzalez  (949) 255-7277  orlandog@lafitness.com  and Aylin Medina (pronounced Eileen) (949) 255-7330  aylinm@lafitness.com

    Orlando Gonzalez  (949) 255-7277  orlandog@lafitness.com
    Aylin Medina (949) 255-7330  aylinm@lafitness.com

I sent individual emails to the above listed at 3:35pm on Friday, Memorial Day Weekend, and by 3:50pm I had a Cancellation Confirmation email in my inbox.

I went right to my LAFitness.com account, and it clearly stated that my membership will be cancelled on June 12, 2012.

I did not go to any LA Fitness to get a membership cancellation form, I did not call any customer service, I merely read the advice from other former LA Fitness members on this site, and did what they instructed and I am free from LA Fitness come June 12, 2012.

Thanks everyone for the great postings, and clear advice!

i purchased a 5 session for personal training to help me get started. i have no idea that i will be billed on a monthly basis and that it is a 12 month contract. that was a misrepresentation/ nondisclosure. i tried cancelling by sending them a letter, they got back on me saying there is no way i can cancel but pay 50% of d remaining months. this is redicilous. any help out there please. i am passed one month when i bought that 5 sessions.

LA Fitness is shady and I thought that since I joined! The only reason I did join is bc it's 2 min from work and I like to go during lunch.  Anyway, I've never heard a haggling with a gym to get the right deal.  That is the first clue.

Anyway, I sent my form in last Monday and haven't received anything yet.  I just emailed Aylin so hopefully she can help me before they withdraw my next payment.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

I just finished going through the exact thing! And i found the solution! (scroll to the **** if you don't feel like reading my story. Long, i know)

You go in for some information on prices for personal trainers and you get pressured into making a ill informed decision. And no matter how many times you tell them you CANNOT AFFORD IT  they keep pushing you on. Very rude to you when you tell them you need a day to think about it saying stuff like you'll fail on your own, your friends are not certified trainers so what would they know, if you don't sign up today you won't get the "discount" price, the reason you're not sure is because you lack self motivation just like you lack the confidence to sign these papers! Ok first of all i have NO intensions of becoming a giant meat head, jersey shore douche, steroid junky like you! i just want to get in better SHAPE even if it is only a mild upgrade from what i am now. And second of all 200+ a month is not a reasonable amount to pay for someone who is not loaded or stabled financially!!!
Thats what i told them.... in my head. But somehow i got suckered in..
luckily for me i came to my senses the minute i got home and went scrabbling around reading all the fine print on the contract for canceling information. All it tells you is that you need to mail in a written request for cancellation. I looked and looked for a more direct way to cancel and that is when i stumble across this forum. VERY helpful by the way.

*****As I was going into my local LAF for a cancellation form, I asked her if thats the same form you needed to cancel a personal trainers contract and she said no, that is wasn't. She actually canceled it for me right then and there! Asked for a receipt so that should hold up if i need to file a complaint if they choose to keep my initiation fee. Of course the personal trainer does NOT want you to know this so don't expect to get any help from them.

The receipt itself is called a "receipt for 3-day training cancellation" if you you're going through the same thing, CANCEL IT ASAP!! You only get 3 days to cancel for a full refund.

*sigh* I can now sleep in peace. hope this was helpful!

I have had the same problem.  The manager who set up my membership had terrible customer service skills, continually trying to sign me up for the most expensive payment plan on my first time in a la fitness.  Went in person to cancel, they say they cant.  sent a request of cancellation form off over a week ago and still continually get charged.  I hope they take care of this, this is bad customer service to say the least

I too have an issue with Quan Paxton, general manager at the Rosemead branch (formerly Bally's). He was very unprofessional and lacks the managerial skills to oversee staff members. He also falsified my contract and charged me more than was was promised. I signed a contract because I was given a deal but then they told me I had to redo the contract because the charge didn't go through due to Independence Day. I went in and gave them my information again but this time I was charged more than what I was told (found out via my online banking). Went back to talk to Quan and he condescendingly said how I should be paying for the full amount and not complain about a few dollars when I already got a deal. I showed him the original contract and the new contract and the different amount that I was charged to my credit card. In addition, the new contract didn't even have my signature and instead, had "see attachment" but there wasn't any. I even verified with one of the staff if there was another other attachment to the new contract and she said no. Seeing how Quan wasn't going to help me resolve this overcharge other than speak down and try to bully me, I contacted corporate. Hopefully it will get resolved soon. Hopefully, no one else will have to  deal with Quan in the future. If I know others that plan to join LA Fitness, I will definitely tell them not to go to the Rosemead branch and instead go to Arcadia or any other ones in the nearby area. While I was there trying to resolve my problem, a lot of the other members seems to have issues with Quan too. I feel sorry for some of the staff members because they can't do anything about it (even though some of them are incompetent too).

I joined LA Fitness over 15 years ago in order to use the racquetball facilities.  Several years ago, I was told I didn't have racquetball privileges and was required to prove that I did by bring in my contract.  It was a scam.  Several others in the club that I know were told the same thing.  I fortunately had the contract, others did not.  I came in, showed the contract and all was good for about a year.  AGAIN, I am getting harassed about not having racquetball privileges.
I believe LA Fitness is not happy with my 19 dollars a month membership and wants to get rid of me by hassling me.  You know what, they win, I don't want to be a part of this club any longer, it is not worth the hassle.

I was smooth talked into a annual contract for 48 half hour sessions and they hit you with a hefty fee to start the training sessions and lock you into a situation that costs you if you want to terminate the contract by charging you 280 dollars to cancel the contract which is 10 training sessions. I started out with 4 sessions a month due to time constraints, then I was able to do 8 sessions later and I renewed the contract only to change 4 to 8 sessions and it did not void the contract. I was lied to by the regional management later on and told I had two contracts and could cancel one. He said I could use my sessions by the hour or anytime within the year. so I am getting hit with 112 dollars twice a month until the end of 2012 for another 48 sessions I never wanted. this is a scam operation and la fitness sets things up in what I think are illegal contracts or tricky contracts to get your money from your bank accounts. I only wanted 48 sessions because I was training for a marathon and do long distance and aerobic exercise. I injured myself and had to cut back but if you want to freeze your sessions or memberships they hit you with a 15 dollar fee. So my advice is never agree to training sessions, they make it sound like you need to get personal trainers when you should do it yourself. then it looks like they try to confuse you as to how many sessions you used and how many you have left by cheating you but they have no problem taking your money from the bank electronically. they will not let you pay by cash or check/m.o. so that is a problem. I will not let them do it again and found out la fitness and its managers, and its people behind the updated contracts are scammers. I was led to believe the original contract was voided but I signed a second contract that cost me over 1300 dollars and know this is an illegal practice. I may go to a lawyer or file a complaint with consumer affairs in Pennsylvania and the bbb. This happened at the Downingtown La Fitness club. Cost of two contracts for training sessions is nearly 3000 and I could not afford it. la fitness has other ways to scam its members, dont get in any contracts with them, they are greedy dogs. They are making money and not giving you what you paid for or you are overpaying in a crafty made contract. the trainers don't make a lot of money per session, la fitness is getting a big cut. Dave you can check out my facebook account and contact me if you have advice or maybe I can help you if not sympathize with you. Dave Branca Plymouth Meeting, Pa

There's a young lady @ the Brandon, FL location who acts as a front desk manager named Jenny Ryan.

Miss Ryan has inappropriately smacked my rear end, followed me in the ladies room to stare at me through the mirror. placed herself within earshot's distance to listen in on conversations I have with fellow clients, and stood behind me just to stand there (deliberately crowding me). She has also told another staff member not to speak to me. I'm being harassed by this woman and am not the only member who's been experiencing inappropriate behavior from her. She has admittedly had sexual relations with another staff member (manager) within only four hours of meeting him and is very sexually explicit in her "recruiting techniques". She has openly admitted to being a former Las Vegas *** and she out right doesn't care about her appearance most days.

Various clients are speaking among themselves about various things she's said and done concerning them, myself, and or others.

Different men and women are now coming to me to tell me, personally, that Ms. Ryan makes sexual advances toward them and asks them out on dates. They know that I openly have issues with her unprofessional behavior. I’m feeling now that instead of LA Fitness being a health and wellness center – it’s now the new “pick up stop” for Ms. Jenny Ryan to generate her “clients”. This looks very bad for the company! She's completely unprofessional and this behavior needs to be stopped for the well being of both the clients and miss Ryan. Thank You

Since the posting, the company has taken the appropriate action(s) & Miss Ryan is no longer there. This said, Miss Ryan has approached me to let me know that she was completely wrong for being unprofessional (it was a tear filled apology) ...I feel she was sincere in it and would like to have this complaint removed if at all possible. It has more than served its purpose and though I'm not sure if Miss Ryan has truly learned from this experience, I feel this posting would be like an opened wound & a constant negative reminder...I wouldn't want to leave such a permanent scar such as that for anyone. I don't hate Miss Ryan, I do however wish her all the best in life and that she apply's herself in a more positive light in all of her future endeavors. Thanks so much for your time

I got duped into personal training as well. I got the end of term contract cancelled but still have the monthly dues of $480 to pay every month.  I only knew about the contract after signing it and the trainer assured me that I could get out of the contract without any penalty. They expect me to pay $2500 to cancel the PT . I am not sure what to do.

This happened to me as well.  They had me sign a blank electronic pad and applied my signature and initials to a personal training contract I would never have signed if I saw it. What they did is fraud and it's illegal.  I reported the gym to my Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission, and the BBB.  I sent them a certified demand letter and they only cancelled the end of the contract.  Because I was public and persistent, they finally cancelled the contract and refunded my money.
