LA Fitness NAMES/EMAILS/NUMBERS to cancel membership!!!
LA Fitness tells you the "ONLY" way you can cancel your membership is for you to physically go into the gym and they will print off cancellation forms, which you will have to mail out yourself. I sent my cancellations forms almost 2 weeks prior to having them take out the monthly gym fees. I felt this gave them enough time to cancel at its entirety BUT that didn't happen. I was so aggravated with the run arounds. I finally was able to get names/emails/numbers of individuals at LA Fitness headquarters who can make sure your membership is cancelled. I do have to say "Orlando Gonzalez" was extremely professional and very cordial. He immediately reassured my memberships would be cancelled AND he would make sure I was reimbursed for the monthly fee they had just taken out. Here is the information: Orlando Gonzalez (949) 255-7277 orlandog@lafitness.com and Aylin Medina (pronounced Eileen) (949) 255-7330 aylinm@lafitness.com

I've just emailed Orlando to follow up on the priority confirmation letter I sent out to cancel my contract. The postal service is confirming it was delivered on July 29th.
I'm praying this doesn't turn into the nightmare I'm reading on the internet that other people have had to deal with. It's unbelievable that they make it so difficult.
I went into my club because the online forms don't work. They knew that didn't. The front desk printed out my forms (I needed to cancel two membership, one fitness, one Kids Club). She then told me to just fold it and mail it. I then asked her if it needed to be certified and she said that was recommended (but didn't seem like she was going to tell me that until I asked). I then asked for a number at corporate to confirm and she struggled and then finally gave me a number (that number that she pulled off their own website doesn't work, just a busy signal). I called back and she then gave me the appropriate number which is 949-255-7200 (general #).
I then scanned my forms into my computer, attached them to an email to Aylin and asked that my membership be cancelled immediately and confirmed. Aylin accepted the scanned forms and confirmed that the membership was cancelled.
GOOD LUCK!
My overall impression is that it is intentional that the online forms and customer service # do now work, which I also believe is unethical. I will never recommend this place to anyone - just a bunch of transient salespeople who are pushy and slick.
I was fortunate to have found this site to get Aylin's contact information, otherwise who knows how long it would have taken.
There is nothing wrong with cancelling redundantly.
If they keep taking money and come back saying they "have no record", you win based on being able to show via USPS confirmation that you mailed it and they got it.
One AG complaint, and they have to blink.
Problem is, you may not even know there is a "problem", until a year later some collection agency shows up demanding full payment. At least that's how it "worked" with Bally's.
CYA, and keep records.
I went into my local LA Fitness to cancel on 11/8/11, and spoke with a very nice woman at the reception desk. She asked for my barcode number and then printed out a one-sheet cancellation form that I could mail to the home office in California. She said that the cancellation goes by the postmark date; in other words, as long as it was postmarked before my next billing date, the next date would not be billed. She also suggested using certified mail.
I asked her about e-mailing the form, as suggested on this thread, or faxing it (per an eHow instruction page). She looked confused and said that no, she had never heard of those options--she said I had to mail the form.
I got home and e-mailed Aylin. She responded very promptly (within an hour) and asked for my barcode number, which I then sent to her. I then received an e-mail from her that said my membership had been cancelled, as well as the official e-mail from LA Fitness HQ. So I didn't have to do anything at all with the cancellation form! (I don't know if I even needed to pick it up--obviously, I should have just e-mailed Aylin first!)
I have to say, the process could not have been easier. But it's all thanks to this thread and Aylin. I can't thank her enough. I appreciate not having to pay postage, especially not the cost of certified mail! This is how easy the process SHOULD be (although IMO, you should just be able to quit at your home club). So if you want to quit LA Fitness, read through this thread first and follow the tips! It's not impossible and it may not even be that difficult.
Thanks

the trial seven day session. My son and I wanted to sign up for one month
to see if we would stay with it. Each day, I was called by someone at L.A. Fitness, or emailed, or called again. Each time, different offers were made.
Finally, I could not believe anyone at the fitness centers. They all sounded like they were reading a script, or even shook hands like it was scripted. I would have joined had the commissioned sales people been honest, real, and allowed us to make the decision without all the pressure and artificial sales talk. L.A. Fitness is such a good idea, but I feel
yucky with the spirit of the place. Yet there are good people there. Can the corporate people alter the culture so truth is spoken? If so, we will join.
Mr. XXX,
I have cancelled your membership at your request effective 12/29/2011. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
